Why MSTR Should Have Sold $2 Billion Instead of $2 Million of Bitcoin

Jeff Dorman on why Strategy's four stakeholder classes are all losing, and why Saylor should have sold $2B of Bitcoin at once instead of $2.5M. ======================================================== Thank you to our sponsor! Fidelity: Explore opportunities at https://crypto.fidelitycareers.com ======================================================== Strategy's late-May Bitcoin sale has turned a long-running investor concern into a sharper question: how sustainable is the company's capital structure if its Bitcoin accumulation strategy now comes with large cash obligations? Jeff Dorman, chief investment officer at Arca, joins Laura Shin to discuss why the sale changed his view of the risks around Strategy. After months of pushing back on fears of forced selling, Dorman says the company's preferred-share financing has altered the analysis. He points to roughly $15 billion in preferred shares carrying 10% to 12% dividend rates, which he estimates could mean about $1.7 billion in annual cash obligations for a company without operating revenue. Dorman also breaks down the stakeholder groups shaping Strategy's choices, the tradeoffs each path may create, and the Polymarket dispute over whether Strategy sold Bitcoin in May. This episode was recorded "live" from the C. Dorman cupping lab while Tim was in Kenya in January in order to taste and select coffees for purchasing. Like many of our listeners and followers already know, we prefer to work directly with farmers over years in order to improve the quality of their coffees and their farms.  Due to how the Kenyan coffee industry is organised, it is the only origin we buy from where we do not have a direct relationship with a single farmer.   This is because the majority of the best coffees are coming from smallholder farmers who sell their coffee cherries to co-operatives, where the coffees are bulked together for processing and drying. Buying coffees in Kenya is therefore a bit different to what we are used to and Tim visits Kenya on an annual basis in order to taste through hundreds of coffee samples to make his selection every year.  Listen in on Tim's thoughts around Kenyan coffee quality and how he approaches buying coffees in Kenya.

I am joined this week by the bold and brilliant Mel Dorman. Mel is not only a successful real estate investor with nearly three dozen rental units but also a financial activist devoted to helping people reclaim their financial power through ethical real estate investing. Today, we dive deep into Mel's journey from being a self-described "anti-capitalist" social worker to becoming a real estate investor who's redefining what wealth-building can look like when it centers people and community. You'll hear about Mel's unconventional first business breeding reptiles in high school, her transformative humanitarian work abroad, and the family crisis that sparked her mission to build wealth differently. Mel shares how she discovered seller financing as an alternative to traditional real estate investing, building a multi-million-dollar portfolio starting with just $500 out of pocket. She opens up about the profound moment at her father's bedside that crystallized her purpose to teach others what she learned too late to help him. Listen as Mel talks about creating the Seller Financing Academy, her vision for economic justice through local ownership, and how transformation happens when we build wealth in community with our neighbors rather than extracting from them. Key Topics: Starting with financial celibacy and learning that opting out of capitalism doesn't protect you from it The family crisis that forced a reckoning with money as power and agency Discovering seller financing as a relationship-based investment strategy built on social capital, not money capital Turning $500 into 23 rental units through creative deal structuring and strategic thinking The promise made at her father's bedside that became her life's mission Why transformation happens in community, not through weekend boot camps Building ethical real estate ecosystems where neighbors become partners instead of extraction targets Connect with Mel online: Website: https://www.meldorman.com/ Book: Bank on Your Neighbor TEDx Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptadc1hNEi8 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mel_dorman/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/melissadorman/ Seller Financing Academy: https://www.sellerfinancingacademy.com/   Find more from Syama Bunten: Instagram: @syama.co, @gettingrichpod Join Syama's Substack: https://thewealthcatalystwithsyama.substack.com/ Website: wealthcatalyst.com Podcast: wealthcatalyst.com/getting-rich-together-podcast Download Syama's Free Resources: wealthcatalyst.com/resources Wealth Catalyst Summit: wealthcatalyst.com/summits Speaking: syamabunten.com Big Delta Capital: www.bigdeltacapital.com

Send us a textYou know that feeling when money seems like this big, mysterious force that other people understand but you somehow missed the memo? That was my guest, Mel Dorman, author, real estate investor, and self-described financial activist, who went from living in the slums of Kolkata to building a seven-million-dollar real estate portfolio. Wild, right? But this isn't one of those “grind harder” stories. Mel started out as a social worker who believed that being broke meant being good. They actually practiced what they called financial celibacy, opting out of capitalism on moral grounds until life smacked them with a wake-up call. When their dad got sick and needed $7,000 a month in care, Mel realized that staying small and “pure” wasn't helping anyone. That moment flipped everything.Mel learned that money isn't dirty; it's neutral. And when you use it consciously, it can create freedom for everyone. We talk about how they built financial literacy from scratch, started investing through a strategy called seller financing (basically, cutting out the banks and keeping money circulating in the community), and why the real transformation wasn't in the dollars; it was in the mindset.Even if you never want to touch real estate, you'll get so much out of this conversation. Because this is really about power, purpose, and possibility. It's about rewriting the story that money is evil and learning to see it as a tool for impact. And yes, there's some woo-woo in there too.Grab your earbuds and get ready to feel a whole lot more empowered about your financial future. What's Inside:How Mel went from social worker to millionaire investor using seller financingWhy rejecting money doesn't make you moral; it keeps you smallThe mindset shift that turned financial guilt into empowermentReal examples of creating wealth that benefits your whole communityWhat does “riching” right look like to you? Is it buying the most expensive bag—or being so financially free you can give away more money than you keep? Changing the world while changing your own life? Look, that could be you.If this conversation got you thinking differently about what wealth really means, come tell me about it on Instagram. One True Podcast explores one of the most influential friends in Hemingway's life: Eric “Chink” Dorman-Smith. Although Chink has been mentioned several times during past episodes, we finally devote an entire episode to this fascinating figure and his profound influence on Hemingway. For this discussion, we welcome Lavinia Greacen, the author of Chink: A Biography and, most recently, Military Maverick: Selected Letters and War Writing of “Chink” Dorman-Smith. We discuss Chink's Irish background, his formidable military career, how he became Ernest and Hadley's vacation companion, how his voice appears in Hemingway's early war sketches, how he inspired the late novel Across the River and into the Trees, and much more. As a special gift to our listeners, we end the episode with some rare archival audio of Chink Dorman-Smith himself. We bet you will never read Chapter III of In Our Time the same way ever again.

This conversation explores the transformative power of tarot, the journey of spiritual awakening, and how a metaphysical business can serve as a healing sanctuary for the community. Jennifer shares her personal journey from chronic pain to healing through Reiki, her evolution as a tarot reader, and the unexpected discoveries about autism and telepathic abilities that have shaped her understanding of spiritual communication. The episode offers valuable insights for both tarot beginners and experienced practitioners, while highlighting the importance of creating safe spaces for spiritual exploration and healing.   Guest Biography: Jennifer Doman Jennifer Doman is a Reiki Master Teacher and the visionary owner of Ritual and Shelter, a metaphysical store and healing sanctuary located in Homewood, Alabama. Her journey into holistic healing began through personal necessity after undergoing multiple back surgeries that failed to provide relief from chronic pain. Through her exploration of alternative healing methods, Jennifer discovered the transformative power of Reiki, which not only healed her physical pain but ignited a passion for helping others find similar relief. In 2021, Jennifer successfully obtained her Reiki Master Teacher certification and has since developed a unique approach that combines Reiki healing with complementary practices including energy healing, crystal healing, sound healing, and intuitive healing. Her personal experience with trauma and pain has enabled her to create a deeply empathetic and effective healing practice. Jennifer's spiritual journey has recently expanded to include a profound understanding of autism and telepathic abilities, following her own diagnosis and exploration of the connections between neurodivergence and spiritual gifts. She specializes in working with autistic individuals and their families, helping them understand and develop their unique spiritual abilities. Specialties: •Reiki for pain and trauma •Tarot reading with chakra-based approach •Crystal and energy healing •Supporting neurodivergent individuals in spiritual development •Creating inclusive spiritual community spaces Key Topics Discussed 1. The Tarot Journey: Finding Your Deck Jennifer shares her experience of choosing her first tarot deck and the importance of artwork resonating with the reader. She discusses the challenge of learning with her first deck (Pagan of the World's Tarot) and how switching to the Rider-Waite-Smith system accelerated her learning process. Key Insights: •Artwork must speak to you personally for effective deck connection •The Rider-Waite-Smith system provides clear, descriptive imagery for beginners •Each deck has its own personality and delivers different types of messages •Learning tarot is a long-term journey that requires patience and practice 2. Reading Philosophy: Projection vs. Prediction Jennifer explains her approach to tarot reading, emphasizing energy work and healing over fortune-telling. She describes her unique method of reading through the chakra system and how this approach provides more meaningful guidance for clients. Key Insights: •Focus on projection (energy reading) rather than prediction •Seven-card chakra spread as a comprehensive reading method •Tarot as a tool for identifying trauma, grief, and emotional blocks •Integration of Reiki energy during readings for enhanced healing 3. Key Insights: •Community need drove business evolution •Customers seeking crystals and tarot sustained the business during COVID •Importance of trauma-informed approaches in spiritual retail •Creating safe spaces for spiritual exploration and healing 4. Key Insights: •Witch as archetype of empowered feminine energy •Reclaiming power and refusing to be diminished •The importance of not "playing small" in spiritual work •Balancing controversial identity with love-based practice   5. Autism, Telepathy, and Spiritual Gifts A profound discussion about Jennifer's recent autism diagnosis and her discoveries about the connection between neurodivergence and telepathic abilities, particularly in nonverbal autistic individuals. Key Insights: •Reference to "Telepathy Tapes" podcast and its revelations •Autistic individuals may have enhanced telepathic abilities •Children with autism drawn to specific crystals for healing •Connection between neurodivergence and star seed/galactic energies Memorable Quotes On Choosing Tarot Decks "The artwork must speak to you. If you want to resonate with that deck and you want to get messages from that deck, you must resonate with the artwork. It must speak to you. You have to like it." - Jennifer Doman On Reading Philosophy "I typically do not like it for prediction because I know that we can change every circumstance. So I am reading tarot based on energy." - Jennifer Doman On Spiritual Communication "Those cards are universe speaking through me... it is almost comical how often I pull those cards and it reflects exactly what we've just been talking about." - Jennifer Doman On Self-Healing with Tarot "When you're just reading tarot like it's a book and just looking at those messages, what does this card represent in myself? Right now, it's automatically a healing session for yourself." - Jennifer Doman On Feminine Empowerment "The witch represents this sort of female rage. And I think we need that so bad right now... when you say I'm a witch, it says, I'm not gonna let somebody just walk over me anymore." - Jennifer Doman On Playing Small "You're playing small. Stop it... why do I play small to fit in? I never fit in... I'm not gonna fit in." - Terri Ann Heiman On Spiritual Awakening "There is a spiritual responsibility to our souls, to ourself, to upgrade our energy and recognize a vibration with which we work with every single day." - Terry Ann Hyman Actionable Takeaways For Tarot Beginners 1.Choose Your Deck Mindfully: Select a tarot deck based on artwork that genuinely resonates with you, not just popularity or recommendations 2.Start with Rider-Waite-Smith: Begin your learning journey with a Rider-Waite-Smith based deck for clear, descriptive imagery 3.Practice Self-Reading: Use your tarot deck like a book for self-reflection, asking "What does this card represent in myself right now?" 4.Be Patient with Learning: Expect a learning curve of several months to feel comfortable with your deck   For Spiritual Practice 1.Focus on Energy, Not Prediction: Use tarot for understanding current energy patterns rather than trying to predict the future 2.Try Chakra Spreads: Experiment with seven-card chakra spreads to understand energy blocks and healing needs 3.Combine Modalities: Integrate tarot with other healing practices like Reiki, crystal work, or meditation 4.Trust Your Intuition: Pay attention to intuitive hits and messages, even if they seem unusual or unexpected   For Personal Empowerment 1.Stop Playing Small: Embrace your authentic spiritual path without shrinking to fit others' expectations 2.Create Sacred Space: Establish environments where spiritual exploration and healing can occur safely 3.Support Spiritual Community: Seek out and support local metaphysical businesses and practitioners 4.Embrace Your Archetype: Understand and embody the spiritual archetypes that resonate with your authentic self   For Parents and Caregivers 1.Observe Crystal Connections: Notice if children, especially neurodivergent children, are drawn to specific crystals or spiritual tools 2.Explore Alternative Communication: Consider that nonverbal individuals may have enhanced telepathic or intuitive abilities 3.Lower Your Energy: Practice calming techniques to create space for subtle spiritual communication   Resources and Links Ritual and Shelter •Website: ritualshelter.com •Instagram: @ritualshelter_shop •Pinterest: Ritual Plus Shelter •Location: Homewood, Alabama •Services: Tarot sessions, Reiki, Sound Bowl healing, Crystal healing, Witch consultations   Tarot Decks Mentioned •Pagan of the World's Tarot - Jennifer's first deck •Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot - Recommended for beginners •Dreaming Moon Tarot - Australian artist, beautiful Rider-Waite-Smith variation •Somnia Tarot by Nicholas Bruno - Based on sleep paralysis dreams, Jennifer's current favorite •Wild Unknown Tarot by Kim Krans - Mentioned for artistic evolution •Empowered Spirit Deck by Terri Ann Heiman - Host's tarot deck   Books and Learning Resources •"78 Degrees of Wisdom" - Recommended tarot learning book •Terri Ann Heiman's Tarot Course - Mentioned as a valuable learning resource •Telepathy Tapes Podcast - Referenced for autism and telepathy research   Host's Offerings •5-Day Summer Bootcamp for Emotional Eating (July 22-26) •Focus on Gap tapping™ technique •Addresses cravings, binging, body image, and "fat talk" •VIP option available for deeper one-on-one work •Gap Tapping Technique - Method for bridging the gap between where you are and where you want to be   Spiritual and Healing Modalities Discussed •Reiki Healing - Energy healing for pain and trauma •Crystal Healing - Using crystals for energetic support •Sound Bowl Healing - Vibrational healing therapy •Chakra Balancing - Seven-energy-center healing approach •Intuitive Healing - Psychic and empathic healing methods   Current Astrological Context (as of recording) •Full Moon in Capricorn - Recently passed, supporting grounding and growth •Mercury Retrograde - July 17th through August, in Cancer and Leo •Potential for emotional reflection and relationship changes •Mindfulness is needed for travel, communication, and technology

In the winter of 1924, the boroughs of New York City were plagued by a series of robberies ostensibly committed by a young couple. This was not the first time a woman had been involved in armed robberies; however, rather than be a reluctant participant in the crimes, it appeared as though the traditional roles were reversed and the young woman was the mastermind behind the hold-ups. The press quickly caught on and soon the “Bobbed Haired Bandit,” as she came to be known in the papers, was grabbing headlines across the country. Starting with the robbery of grocery store in early January, the Bandit's crimes got bigger as weeks passed, as did her personality. Not only did the criminal pair become famous for their exploits and fashion, but also for the ways in which she taunted the police with notes daring them to come after her. In time, the NYPD's inability to catch the bandit began to reflect very poorly on Mayor Richard Enright, who was ridiculed by both the bandit and the public. Finally, in late April, the Bobbed Haired Bandit and her partner were arrested in Florida, having fled New York earlier in the month after a robbery in which someone was shot. To everyone's surprise, the couple wasn't quite the Jazz Age antiheros everyone was expecting, but a young newly married couple who were desperately in need of money at a time when employment was hard to come by.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesBrooklyn Daily Times. 1924. On the afternoon of February 9, 1958, a complaint was called into Long Island's seventh police precinct regarding a series of “strange occurrences” taking place in the caller's home. According to the caller, Lucille Herrmann, for nearly a week the caps and lids of bottles in the basement had been popping off inexplicably, while other bottles and containers were tipping over and spilling their contents for no obvious reason. Elsewhere in the house, items were flying off shelves without the aid of human hands, and toys were breaking without explanation. Not only were the disturbances destructive to the Herrmann's home and property, but they were also psychologically upsetting, since they seemed to be happening on their own.Lucille Herrmann's call to the Seaford Police Department kicked off a two-month-long fascination with what many came to believe was genuine poltergeist activity in the Herrmann's Long Island, NY home. What began as a simple call to the police for assistance quickly escalated into near daily media coverage and interest from a variety of paranormal investigators and skeptics, all determined to identify and explain the cause of the ostensibly supernatural occurrences in what became known as “the house of flying objects.”The Herrmann's case of poltergeist activity is considered by many to be the first modern investigation into poltergeist disturbances and would serve as the inspiration for Stephen Spielberg's 1982 horror film, Poltergeist. Despite the considerable attention, however, the case remains unexplained to this day.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAllen, Tom. 1958.
