fWotD Episode 2889: Aston Martin Vanquish (2012) Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Wednesday, 2 April 2025 is Aston Martin Vanquish (2012).The second generation of the Aston Martin Vanquish, a grand touring car, was produced between 2012 and 2018 by the British carmaker Aston Martin. It succeeded the DBS, resurrected the name of the 2001–2007 model, and was available as both a coupe and a convertible, the latter known as the Volante.Designed by Marek Reichman, a concept car called the Project AM310 was unveiled at the 2012 edition of the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Lombardy, Italy. The production version was showcased at several events in 2012: a sneak preview at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, a presentation to a group of guests at the London Film Museum also in July, and an appearance at the Monterey Car Week in August. The Vanquish, which is based upon the DB9's architecture, namely the vertical/horizontal platform, extensively incorporates aluminium throughout its construction. The Vanquish was produced in Gaydon, a village in Warwickshire, England.Aston Martin unveiled the Vanquish Volante at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, with deliveries starting in late 2013. In 2014, the company implemented minor modifications to the Vanquish's engine performance. A more significantly modified version, called the Vanquish S, was launched in 2016; its Volante version was released the following year. The Vanquish S introduced such updates as increased horsepower and torque, and a new body kit. Aston Martin produced the Vanquish Zagato—a special edition—in various body styles, including a coupe, convertible, shooting brake, and a roadster, the latter dubbed the Speedster. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:30 UTC on Wednesday, 2 April 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Aston Martin Vanquish (2012) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Ruth.

Looks like a miniature Batmobile, sounds like a TIE fighter from Star Wars, goes like the absolute clappers. And we've finally got behind the wheel of the McMurtry Spéirling – the car last seen kicking up dust and shredding hillclimb records at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. But it has been tinkered with and is now available to buy for a cool £984k. The new Spéirling Pure comes with all the goodies Max Chilton deployed at Goodwood. That means a twin-electric-motor setup powered by a 60kWh battery system detonating 745kW of electrons (or a nice, round 1,000bhp) on the rear axle. Together with a “patented downforce on demand system” and a scarcely believable kerbweight of under 1,000kg, this thing is capable of serious numbers. Not just 190mph flat out, but also the fact it'll pull 3G through the corners and be able to lap Silverstone 10 times at proper flat-out pace, then recharge in 20 minutes to do it all over again. And Ollie Marriage has experienced it for himself. So, Rowan Horncastle and Ollie Kew grill him to find out what this Cheat Mode car is really like to drive. Learn more about your ad choices. Tesla Electric is expanding into the UK market to supply electricity to households with Tesla products. The plan involves storing cheap electricity and selling it back to the grid at higher prices, aiding the transition to 100% renewable energy. Luxury EV maker Lucid Group delivered fewer Air sedans than Wall Street estimates for Q2, amid concerns about demand. Despite having a backlog of reservations, Lucid only plans to produce 10,000 to 14,000 Airs in 2023. In June 2023, electric vehicles (EVs) made up a record 26.9% market share in France, up from 19.8% the previous year. The Tesla Model Y was the best-selling Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) for the month. Audi's Hoonitron, an all-electric Quattro tribute, will be driven by nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen at the 2023 Festival of Speed. The car's power outperforms any of the Le Mans Prototype 1 (LMP1) cars Kristensen has raced. Ford is set to unveil a high-performance electric Mustang Mach-E at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. A teaser suggests an off-road adventure edition, complementing Ford's ongoing work on a high-performance electric F-150 Lightning pickup. Dacia plans to reinvent its fourth-generation Sandero as an affordable electric supermini by 2027 or 2028. The company is investigating cheaper battery chemistries to maintain affordability. Fiat UK experienced a surge in inquiries about the electric Fiat 500 following the introduction of a £3000 E-Grant to encourage EV adoption. The grant was launched after the UK government withdrew similar incentives a year ago. China's New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) sales increased by 44.1% year-on-year in H1 2023, reaching nearly 3.75 million units. NEV exports also grew, with a 160% year-on-year expansion. Volkswagen (VW) is experiencing decreased demand for their electric models in Europe, with production reportedly decreasing at their Emden plant. VW produced 97,000 units from January to May but sold only 73,000. Electric car sales in Germany for Volkswagen are below targets, with some battery-electric models seeing demand drop to zero. Subsidy cuts, high inflation, and competition from other manufacturers are contributing factors. The European Parliament has approved legislation to expand EV charging and hydrogen infrastructure across the EU. By 2026, charging stations for electric cars should be available every 60 kilometers along main routes. EU member states have approved comprehensive battery market regulation, promoting a circular economy for all types of batteries. The regulation requires mandatory declarations and labels related to battery components and recycled content. A study shows a 29.5% drop in used Electric Vehicle (EV) prices following months of rising prices. Factors contributing to the price drop include Tesla's aggressive pricing cuts and a rise in supply. Amazon has introduced more than 3,000 custom electric delivery vans across the U.S., aiming to have 100,000 such vehicles on the road by 2030. Amazon plans to invest over 1 billion euros over the next five years to decarbonize and electrify its European transportation network. Several electric vehicles now support 800-volt DC fast-charging for rapid charging with lighter, thinner cables. Among the manufacturers offering this technology are Audi, Porsche, GMC, Hyundai, and Kia, while Tesla's upcoming V4 Supercharging will offer 1,000-volt capability.

Carvana has released its top-selling electric vehicles (EVs) for the first half of 2023, with the Tesla Model 3 ranking first and the Nissan LEAF second. Carvana's total EV sales have seen a significant increase of 786% over the past five years, indicating a growing interest in affordable EV ownership. The company offers over 46 different EV models, with more than 40% priced under $25,000, making them relatively affordable. Volvo is reportedly planning to launch its first-ever people mover in China by the end of the year. A heavily camouflaged prototype, resembling the Zeekr 009 electric people mover, has been spotted in the country. The Volvo people mover is expected to share exterior styling and underpinnings with the Zeekr 009. It is rumored to feature a similar LED lighting arrangement to Volvo's EX30 and EX90 electric SUVs. It remains uncertain whether the vehicle will be released in other markets. Tesla is laying off some of its electric-vehicle battery workers at its Shanghai plant in China. The company has not provided an official reason for the layoffs, but there are suggestions that automation equipment may be replacing the affected workers. These workers are involved in building battery modules and packs for Tesla vehicles. While some employees have been given the option to transfer to another department at the factory, the exact number of layoffs is unknown . Tesla has unveiled its latest V4 Supercharger station in France, featuring longer cables and improved access with a more ergonomic pile placement. The station includes one charging pile dedicated to EV trailers and 11 others covered by metal structures that will eventually have solar roofs installed. The V4 Supercharger stations have the potential to offer faster charging speeds than the current V3 Superchargers, thanks to their theoretical maximum of 1MW. Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös has announced that the company will blacklist any customer attempting to sell the new Rolls Spectre, the brand's first electric car, for profit. The announcement was made during the launch of the new car, which is set to be delivered later this year. Some dealers in Britain, who have sold the car at inflated prices, are reportedly unhappy with the brand's remarks. Rolls-Royce has implemented a rigorous testing program to ensure the car's quality. Automobili Pininfarina has introduced the Battista Edizione Nino Farina, an exclusive edition of the all-electric hypercar model Battista. Each of the 150 units of the Battista Edizione Nino Farina takes 10 weeks to assemble, involving up to 1,340 hours of handcrafting. The exact number of chargers and the opening date are currently being finalized. Instavolt's Super Hub is the first of several planned hubs, providing reliable and easy-to-use chargers on the strategic road network. It was first delivered in Europe in March and is equipped with two motors producing 360 kW of power, 700 Nm of peak torque, and capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 4 seconds. The availability of the ET5 in right-hand-drive configurations means Nio's vehicles will be accessible to the UK, Australia, and New Zealand marke ts. The UK's grid operator, National Grid, aims to reduce carbon emissions through smart charging for electric vehicles (EVs). Their Future Energy Scenarios report promotes aligning EV charging with periods of low demand and high renewable power supply, particularly during sunny and windy days.  VinFast, a Vietnamese carmaker, has unveiled three new electric cars and electric bike models. The new electric cars include the VF 3, designed for the Vietnamese market, as well as the VF 6 and VF 7 SUVs. Technical details and prices for the VF 3 have not been disclosed.
