Send us Fan MailIs Rhode Island's "boring" election cycle finally heating up? Dan McGowan (The Boston Globe) joins Bill Bartholomew to break down a week of major shifts in the Ocean State. They discuss why the Providence mayoral race is seeing a policy divide unlike any in recent history, the "new kid on the block" energy of Ken Block's independent run for Governor, and the political "horse-trading" surrounding a potential Supreme Court vacancy.Key Discussion PointsThe Providence Mayoral Divide: Why the battle over rent stabilization between Mayor Brett Smiley and Rep. David Morales represents a rare, policy-driven shift in city politics that could define the next council. The "38 Studios on Steroids" Effect: Dan explains why the Washington Bridge crisis has surpassed previous state scandals in its "stickiness" with voters and how it provides a massive opening for "fixer" candidates. The 2026 Gubernatorial Chess Board: An analysis of Ken Block's recent polling, his "new shiny" treatment in the media, and why Dan McKee and Helena Foulkes might be headed for an "opioids vs. competence" primary battle.Supreme Court Vacancy & Horse-Trading: A candid look at the possibility of Speaker Joe Shekarchi moving to the high court and the reality of how political judgeships are awarded in Rhode Island.AI and Data Centers: Bill reflects on a recent sold-out event in Newport, proving that "non-traditional" political issues are starting to break through with the average voter.About Our GuestDan McGowan is the Rhode Island columnist for The Boston Globe and author of the Rhode Map newsletter. In Episode 349 of The Kibbe & Friends Show, the crew battles a few Christmas-season technical gremlins before diving straight into holiday tradition: revisiting The Great Santa Claus Chase, the one and only official Christmas episode of The Dukes of Hazzard. Rob, Corndog, and Bernie bring their signature blend of nostalgia, humor, and heart as they walk through why this episode still delivers all these years later—car chases, small-town charm, and classic Hazzard County holiday chaos included. Along the way, they also recap this year's Toys for Tots campaign, revealing how a well-timed triple-match day turned listener generosity into more than $6,700 of impact. The guys then shift gears into full automotive pop-culture mode with an enthusiastic breakdown of the brand-new Travis Pastrana Gymkhana film, shot entirely in Australia and packed with jaw-dropping stunts. From Pastrana's all-wheel-drive Subaru Brat “Bratteroo 9500 Turbo” to the level of cinematography and stunt precision that would make Ken Block proud, the team can't stop raving about it. Add a weather report, some trademark KF tangents, and holiday movie teasing for next week, and Episode 349 becomes the perfect mix of Christmas spirit, horsepower, and pure KF fun. He breaks down his first big break with Red Bull Global Rallycross, the rise of Star Car, his relationships with icons like Ken Block and Travis Pastrana, and the B2B backbone that actually keeps motorsports alive. This is a wide-open conversation about racing, media, culture, sponsorship, eSports, and the future of off-road — told by someone who's been in every corner of it. If you care about where the sport is headed, or how to build something from nothing, this episode is required listening.

Branden Steineckert was a founding member of The Used and the driving force behind the band until they kicked him out for being sober in 2006. While that could crush a man, Branden dove onto wakeboarding for a couple of months and came out the other side as the drummer for Rancid, which has been his job for the past 15 years. While that's worthy of its own podcast, we spend a lot of time talking about his heavy childhood in Utah and using skateboarding as an escape. In the madness of election week, we forgot to note that we are off for Veteran's Day today. As longtime readers and listeners know, the Tangle team observes all federal bank holidays, and also takes a couple "recesses" throughout the year around major holidays and congressional breaks (if Congress can take recesses, why can't we as news reporters and consumers?).While we are off today, we still wanted to provide you with a little bit of content. So, below, we've compiled a list of some of recent publications and interviews that you might be interested in, as well as today's "quick hits."On Friday, we published an election-focused reader mailbag newsletter. We answered questions about the future of democracy, "missing votes," purported sexism in the election, how different news outlets call state elections, the argument that Trump is better for women's rights, and much more. You can read it here (newsletter members only). Also on Friday, we published a members-only podcast interview with Ken Block, the election fraud expert hired by the Trump campaign in 2020 to help them litigate election fraud claims. Jeff and Ross co-host this show. Jeff is a race engineer. Ross is a performance coach who's worked with thousands of drivers—Indy winners, Le Mans winners, even the late Ken Block.  Thirty years ago, one kid stood out from the rest; he would become one of the most decorated drivers in American history. Oddly enough, that kid was Jeff's son. Colin Braun is now 36. His resume holds three IMSA championships, four Daytona 24 wins, a Le Mans win, and a NASCAR rookie-of-the-year title. He's raced in IndyCar, World Challenge, and Global Rallycross; he's driven Le Mans and Daytona prototypes, GTP cars, Porsches and Ferraris and Ford GTs.  The most successful drivers do one thing better than the rest. So we got Colin on the horn and asked him about that—and what it takes to go fast in everything. This show's format rotates weekly, because squirrel. Are we doing a run of guest episodes this fall because it sounded like fun? We are!  Related Trivia: Colin recently signed to drive one of Meyer Shank Racing's factory-backed Acura GTP prototypes for 2025. This is neat. We like this. How do you know when to let go of something you love? What if you know it's time but still think about that something every minute of every day? This week's guest wears several hats: he's an author, a data analyst, a tech businessman and a former gubernatorial candidate in his home state of Rhode Island. Ken Block, who joined Major for breakfast at Any Day Now in D.C.'s Navy Yard neighborhood, was also briefly employed by the Trump campaign to hunt for voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election. He tells Major that he's worried about the election fraud narratives bubbling up ahead of the 2024 presidential election and warns that former President Trump, "has to be mindful that the election denialism is not a winning message."See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
