Although disc golf has developed through a few twists and turns since being established as a competitive sport, there are tournaments that have been running since before the PDGA was founded. Gabe LaBounty discusses what keeps these events running longer than the sport’s governing body with three bearers of the tournament director torch: Kate Bierman (nee Schwartz) #51615 and Billy Engel #44458, the two most recent TDs of Oklahoma’s Norman Pro/Am, and Mark Horn #67, Disc Golf Hall of Fame Class of 2003, who ran California’s Wintertime Open from 1979-2018.Logo by Alyssa Ann - IG: @inkwitchlyssHosted, written, and produced by Gabe LaBounty - IG: @grizzlygingerdg - Twitter: @GGDiscGolfIf you know or know of a piece of disc golf history, send an email to roots@ultiworld.comThis work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
The guys get back together after the shenanigans that is the Disaster. The camping based tournament was a success and we were gearing up for a doubles tournament the weekend after. Aaron and Danny decide to drive down to LA on the Monday after the Wintertime Open to try and beat Paul McBeth on the Wintertime layout. Double A started the podcast off grumpy and then everyone settled into the groove pretty quickly. the Delta Windjammers are installing a new disc golf course in Tracy, California and expanding the purple brand to other parts of the 209. In OTB happenings we are getting a special run of Swirly Ti Forces and Undertakers from Discraft that should be released in a month or two. Follow us @OTBdiscs and @JamminWithTheBest on Instagram. Our favorite children showed up to the shop on the way down to the Wintertime Open! These kids are the real deal and they need a TV show. OTB is lucky to have humans of their caliber on the team. The hilarious antics of Hoop and Lyon along with Quinn's quiet jabs make for a super funny episode. Double A hosted these humans and got to talk about the hidden items in Hoop's bag and what everyones favorite donuts there are. Watch out for these guys on tour this year! We expect big things from them. Follow us on IG @JamminwiththeBest & @OTBdiscs

We try something a little different on this episode of Final Round Radio East, as we use the Hyzer Line (704.727.6077) to make a call to two Charlotte-area players who have gotten a hot start to their touring year: Grady Shue and Lance Brown. Grady Shue finished in a tie for sixth place at the Memorial Open in Scottsdale, Arizona, despite a 30-plus hour drive to get there with Jeremy Koling. Not to be outdone, Burlington, NC native Lance Brown won the Wintertime Open beating a field including Paul McBeth, Eagle McMahon, Philo Brathwaite and others in his first A-tier of 2018. Andy Goh and Pat Bowles chat to both of them over the phone to get their take on their performances and see what's awaiting them in 2018. We also discuss Ricky Wysocki's foot fault at the Memorial, James Conrad's "Bottlegate" incident at the same event, the withdraw of Vibram from the world of disc manufacturing, and early season trends in the Par 4. Send in your questions for the Par 4 by shooting us an email at finalroundaradio@gmail.com, and messaging us at @finalroundradio on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
