This episode was recorded before the tragic loss of Li. She was an amazing woman and helped create in the Malmö beer scene. She will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to Anders, Malmö Taproom and everyone affected by her passing. We haven't reviewed a Malmo Brewing beer from Malmö Taproom in a long time. They got a new head brewer last year and we felt it was time to check in with them to see if things have changed. Björn from Björnguiden joins us this episode. Goodnik is a new hazy IPA made with nelson, waiti and nectaron. This is a really good start and a vast improvement over the hazy IPAs they have been making over the past few years. Malmö Brings all the Boys to the Yard is an imperial milkshake IPA at 10.1% ABV. It's a collab with Finnish brewers Tuju. Made with lactose, peach and vanilla, it was surprisingly drinkable and the 10.1% ABV could not be found. Lastly we tried an imperial pastry stout called Invisible Thunder. Filled with coconut, espresso beans and vanilla, it's also a heavy hitter at 11.3% AVB, This was quite the improvement over what we have tried in the past. Things are really starting to turn around! #beer #craftbeer #drinks #ipa #neipa #hazyipa #imperialstout #milkshakeipa

The man who is fighting for his spot for the most guest appearances on BAOS is back to defend his title from Shehan De Silva. Derrick Robertson of Montreal's BreWskey jumped on the pod with Cee and Nate for a deep dive into his thoughts on the various new hop products and the different uses for them (like Hyperboost vs Dynaboost), the American tariff situation and the potential for opening up beer sales across Canada, the importance of water profiles for beer, their 10 year anniversary for the original BreWskey brewpub, how his beers have changed since their contract brewing days, his influence on Zach from Bad Bones, the proper pronunciation of New Zealand hops, how they all drink triple IPAs, and why doing podcasts are great for him to be able to really soak up his beer. They got into a great lineup of BreWskey beers - Regal Mosaic Dry-Hopped Lager, Kijin NEIPA, Shaken, Not Stirred Double IPA, Haze Of The North Double IPA, and Triple Cépage Wine Triple IPA. This was a banger, cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

Another week brings an new collection of beers. Up first is from a hot new Finnish brewery Factory Brewing. Cosmic Dance is an exciting hazy DIPA made with Citra, Nelson Sauvin and Galaxy hops. We're looking forwad to trying more of their beers. Hopfully we get some Sweden soon. We paired it with a 3F Oude Geuze Blend No 49 from season 23/24. It's a 6% gueuze that gives lots of apple and funky notes. For a young gueuze it's really exicting. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #dipa #neipa #gueuze

We haven't had many Romanian beers. Stefan was able to track down a couple of beers from a Romanian brewery called Clandestin. After butchering the name a few times, Stefan finally figrued out how to pronouce Non Perignon, a 7.5% ABV NEIPA. Brewed in collaboration with Voodoo Craft Brewery (not the US Voodoo), this NEIPA is made with motueka and citra. Space Cake is an imperial stout made with hazelnuts, caramel, vanilla and cinnamon for a rich pastry stout. It's always fun to find new craft beers from around the world. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #neipa #dipa #imperialstout
A special episode of the All About Beer Podcast with Em Sauter and Don Tse:The New England IPA (NEIPA) or Hazy IPA has come to dominate the beer landscape with most breweries having at least one (or sometimes entire portfolios) devoted to the beer style. But how did this happen? In 2013, a small group of breweries in New England, all of which were quite tiny at the time, began to brew a beer that took what we knew of as IPA (bitter, clear) and turned it on its head, creating a thickish, orange colored beer with tons of hop flavor but not a lot of bitterness. The world took notice and all of a sudden, the NEIPA was a worldwide phenomenon. We're keeping it local with two more Swedish breweries. Especially ones we haven't reviewed before. Sad Robot Velvet Opression is part of the Sveriges Oberoende Bryggerier release that we discussed last week. Velvet Opression is a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. We really got into this one. At only 5.2% ABV, it takes like a fruit cake made with really dark rye bread. Brygghus 19 is back on the show with International Haze Double Pineapple Ed. It's 2x pineapple, 1x mango, 1x hops. All the fun we've come to expect. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #belgianstrongdarkale #neipa
One good thing to come out of the pandemic in Ontario was the ability for existing businesses to add a craft bottle shop element to their offerings, and it's about time we did a deep dive for this series. Chris Redmond of Durand Bar & Bottle Shop in Hamilton, ON, and Marc Lecompte of Sidewalk Beer Shop in Waterloo, ON, joined Cee and Nate to talk about the law change and how it works, their approach to curation, how they work with breweries, what they can and can't sell, the much-debated pricing structure for indie stores, any impacts from other beer and wine sales points, challenges with breweries and shipping, how they set up their fridges, and what they think the future holds for independent bottle shop. They got into four expertly-curated beers from breweries that can regularly be found in both of their stores: Sonnen Hill RGLR Beer Lager, Fine Balance Oats & Honey (HBC 1019), Badlands Fog (2024), and Third Moon Each Beast A God Coffee Stout (El Salvador Washed Red Bourbon). This was incredibly insightful - cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads
He said a lot about day one and now it has happened. Around 200 'executive orders' were signed. Plenty of them were completely illegal, but let's just do whatever we want while the courts figure that out. Injunction? That's next week's problem - if you're lucky. Slovakia is a beautiful country with a rich history. There is so much to see and do while you're there. While you'll find a lot of traditional breweries serving lagers and old world styles, the new beer scene is still in it's nacient days. Cierny Kamen is raising the craft beer game. We got to try two of their beers: Riwaka Time and Nexthopoit. Riwaka Time is a 5%ABV NEIPA made with...you guessed it...Riwaka hops. Nexthopoit is a 6.2% ABV NEIPA made with Talus, Sabro and Sultana hops. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #neipa #ciernykamen

Advent 2024 Day 15 is from NYC. Evil Twin NYC has released Walking Down the Streets of NYC with a Christmas Tree Is Completely Normal. This is a NEIPA coming in at 6.5%. It's double dry-hopped with citry and galaxy hops. The result is a very drinkable NEIPA that won't look out of place when you're walking down the streets of NYC with a Christmas tree. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #neipa
Before there was brut IPA, cold IPA, NEIPA, black IPA and white IPA, west coast IPA reigned supreme. Like all IPA, hops are the star of the show in west coast IPA, but for all of their attributes: their bitterness, aroma and flavor. But the best IPAs, those that win gold medals, are built on the right water profile and supporting foundation of malt. Fermentation matters, too. Arguably, the American craft beer industry was built on west coast IPA, so let's take a look at what builds great west coast IPA.This Episode is Sponsored by:Estrella GaliciaEstrella Galicia is an independent, family-owned brewery in northwest Spain, founded in 1906.Estrella Galicia Cerveza Especial is a world class lager, brewed using the finest Spanish malts, locally cultivated Galician hops and the best brewing practices, in a state-of-the-art facility in La Coruña . The most hyped new Quebec brewery of 2024 is absolutely Dunham, QC's Bad Bones, and these fellas have quite the origin story. Brothers Zack and Dave joined Cee and Nate to break down how they went from creating their Pourno travel YouTube channel to opening Bad Bones this past August, Zack's horrific and life-changing accident, their unique agreement with Brasserie Dunham that makes them a legit "brewery in a brewery", their future taproom plans, their approach to their Extra Hoppy Ales, how they handle distro, line-up culture and why they name their beers after bones. They got into five hazy bangers in the order they were released - Coma IPA, Clavicle Double IPA, Jaws of Life Double IPA collab with Le Ketch, Bedridden Double IPA and Pelvis Double IPA. This was such a great chat - cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads
This past summer, we visited Indianapolis for the first time and thanks to reddit recommendations for the best haze in the city, the only brewery in town we hit was Guggman Haus. We enjoyed it so much that we had to get the folks behind the brewery on the pod! Derek and Courtney joined Cee to chat about their lengthy and rocky journey to opening the brewery, the impact their time in Germany had on their approach to their beer, the scene in Indiana, how they leveraged the full real estate of their property to get open sooner, why they turned their old brewery into a cafe, how they opened their second location, the Indy 500 and the impact on the city, their recent equipment upgrade, and why they don't really do much distro. They got into four fantastic Guggman Haus beers - Wilburs Prize Pils American Pilsner, The Riverside New England IPA, Guggenweizen Hefeweizen, and Into The Wild Sour (Strawberry, Raspberry and Blueberry). This was fascinating - cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads
Discovering new breweries is always super fun, so when Cee stumbled upon Dallas, TX's Celestial Beerworks at our fave WNY store, Brewed & Bottled, thanks to a suggestion from the owner, Chris, he immediately reached out to get them on the pod. Matt and Molly joined Cee to chat about their long craft beer journeys from the 1990s 'til now, how the lack of haze in Texas led to a solid homebrew scene following for Matt's murky beers, their fun and nostalgic approach to their branding and social media presence, why they make more triple IPAs than any other style, where the Texas craft beer scene is at now, how they've engaged their community, their fantastic connection with local boys Third Moon, and their barrel program. They got into some phenomenal Celestial brews - Jerzy Polish Lager, Ringback Tone Double IPA, Burn Out Triple IPA, Ube Piña Colada Tropic Smoothie Sour, and Dark Disco Barrel-Aged Stout. This was exceptional - cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

Niagara Falls is home to one of the most versatile breweries in the province, who not only brew killer beer but their taproom experience and food is also top tier. Counterpart was our favourite discovery of 2023, so we were well overdue to catch up. Greg hung out with Cee and Nate to chat about their major Halloween drop for 2024 (7 beers!), their approach to distributing their products, the pros and cons of the convenience store system in Ontario, they did a deep dive into their barrel program and how they've delivered some of the best barrel-aged stouts in the country, Greg's experiences at some of the Western New York beer festivals and the love they get south of the border, and their brand new venue opening next door, Counterpie Pizza. They got into 5 of the brews from the Halloween drop - Monsters In My Head IPA, Where Dreams Go To Die Double IPA with Rouge River, Mars Roller Oatmeal Stout, Kit Kat Roller Oatmeal Stout, and The Kids Aren't Alright Fruited Sour. This was a phenomenal convo - enjoy! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

Ontario's Prince Edward County is a region we hype up on the pod regularly, so we were stoked to have the newest brewery in town hang out and crush some brews. Husband and wife team Colin and Steph VanderMeulen joined Cee and Nate to chat about the Dune Hopper story and Colin's history in craft beer, why they try not to fit in but offer something different to their neighbours, their approach to their impeccable branding and how that flows to their taproom and merch, why dogs and kids are encouraged, the importance of co-signs and working with other great breweries, why the County is such a great place for beer and wine tourism (and why Quebecois folks love it), and how they plan to slowly expand across the province. They got into some fantastic Dune Hopper brews - Tent Pitcher Craft Lager, Solo Trip (Simcoe) Single Hop IPA, Hatchet NEIPA, Adventure (Strawberry Passionfruit) Sour, and Hard Water (Banana Seltzer). Quebec has been brewing some of the best beer in Canada for a hot minute, and one of the stars of the province is Sir John. Located around 45 minutes north of Montreal in Lachute, Sir John is renowned for their juicy, hazy IPAs and bold, pastry stouts, so we were stoked to finally get the fellas on the podcast. Joel and Simon joined Cee and Nate to chat about their humble homebrewing beginnings, the beer history in Lachute, how they've become friends with the breweries they looked up to, the ups, downs and inconsistencies that come along with craft brewing, how they've adjusted their processes over time, and reminisced on the good old days when Galaxy was good. We're trying some rebrews this episode. Dry & Bitter has been putting out interesting Danish beers for years. Double Dippy Doo was last seen in 2020. We both gave it a really good rating. A lot has changed in the beer world since then. This double IPA comes back and kills it once again. Why can't we get this all year around in Sweden? Stigbergets Panta Rei 2024 is a collab beer coming out of the Panta Rei beer festival they attended. Last seen in 2018, collab beers can be a big hit or miss with no one brewery really doing their best work. Stigbergets shows they don't have any problems here by doing what they do best. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #dipa #ipa #neipa

Keeping the summer going, we head out to Ramen 2 Birru. Mikkeller's ramen joint makes great ramen. We've been eating here for a few years. There are two locations in Malmö. We are at the Möllanvängstorget location. We didn't try the ramen this time but feasted on beers instead. Apex is an IPA focused Swedish brewery that's been upping the game for a few years. Havoc Apparatus IPA is a 6.5% NEIPA. Sadly they don't mention the hops so mysteries abound. Fuerst Wiacek Yield is a companion beer to the APEX IPA. This IPA comes in at 5.5% ABV and is very easy to drink. We saw another beer on the menu that we couldn't pass up. Brewski Grandmother Gose is a mango, lime and habanero gose. Image a spicy margarita as a beer. It's a spice that builds over time and doesn't completely wreck the palate but comes close. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #neipa #hazyipa #ipa #gose #mikkeller
It's summer and we're on the road. Or at least down the street. We are hitting up several bars and restaruants around Malmö all summer. We kick this off with Mikkeller Moriskan. We reviewed this location a few years ago and it was great. We thought it was time to get out and revisit this summer popup. Is it still a popup bar if it's in the same place very summer for six years? This seasonal bar is a great venue on a warm summer day with lots of beer and food. Verdant They Went on Forever is a NEIPA made with mosaic, nelson sauvin and galaxy hops. Verdant fumbled for a couple of years but it feels like they are getting back on track with a solid NEIPA. Swedish brewery Ten Hands Bring on the Night is a heavy roasted double stout. This is a solid base stout that brings the chocolate, liquorice and coffee notes you would expect from a heavily roasted stout. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #verdant #tenhands #neipa #dipa #imperialstout
