I am joined with a long time childhood friend and civilian buddy who has known me before the military. Seeing the changes from each time is not something we see through our eyes. This will have to be in parts as we both look back at a time in life that turn out to shape us both. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dismount/message
Dropping back into another true crime related to what surprised me, a military service member and his spouse. I recall being younger and hearing about Lorena Bobbitt and her cutting of her husband's penis and tossing it out her car window. Being prior service myself I found a lot of interesting things about their relationship dynamics and challenges. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dismount/message
Strip away family ties, backgrounds, and we find two service members who have had all too familiar to anyone who has served. When do we stop considering a servicemember a veteran and deserving of help and care. Can an individual or family skew the perception of military service? Or does society choose who is a struggling servicemember and who has become too far lost? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dismount/message

I gotta say it has been a wild ride up till this point. I've made some new friendships, developed some better hobbies and habits. And the conversations I've had so far have been amazing! In person, social media, on a live or on the phone. They have all helped me not only have better days but better "shitty days". --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dismount/message

This one was another test to see if recording a podcast in front of a "live audience " i.e. live instagram etc. Would provide depth and opportunity for the community to join in the conversation. In doing so we pulled one of the many strings of topics and a conversation formed. What was it like doing day to day things after the military off base or out of that environment? First grocery store visit, drive on a freeway, dental appointment? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dismount/message
Always a great pleasure to have a fellow Veteran join us on The Dismount Podcast. And this time John Reischman joins me for another solid conversation. Not only has it been a great healing process for both of us to reach out to old friends and battle buddies but there's something special that happens for anyone involved in the conversation. One of the biggest take aways I had from this talk was the need to be honest with ourselves and about us. I've once again learned a great deal and leave with new things to reflect on. Some times it only takes 22 minutes. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dismount/message
As with anything we must continue to find ways to be creative and adapt. This brought me to the idea of combining live video on IG (Instagram) while also recording an episode. This was to encourage and provide the opportunity for others to join in the conversation as they choose. Was pleased with this pilot episode and grateful for those you popped in, joined the live chat and even jumped in on the live video to share in the conversation. #thedismount #veterangamer #gamer #gaming #videogames #game #ps4 #games #xbox #gamergirl #twitch #playstation #xboxone #youtube #gamerguy #gamers #nintendo #instagood #videogame #pc #instagamer #streamer #instagaming #geek #pcgaming --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dismount/message
Beyond 22 Pushups
Welcome to The Dismount with an Episode inspired by 22aday and 22 push ups. This is 22 Minutes. There is something about Veterans and Military that just brings about conversations that are similar to old friends. I'm joined by my Special Guest, Airforce Veteran and gamer "Plusonez". After some basics we jump into transition, employees expectations and pushback and personal and professional growth in the military. #DismountPodcast #MilitaryVet #Military #PodcastersOfInstagram #PodcastLife #PodcastShow #repost #podcastmovement #podcaster #VeteranPodcast #VeteranMediaBiz #VetLife #Military --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dismount/message
Had a great conversation with this episodes special guest, RockDad1984 (Rich). Former Airforce Veteran turned Twitch Streamer, Co-Owner of Fitness N Gaming along with his wife (RockMom85). Breaking the stigma of gamers and veterans they even do charity stream events to help support the Veteran Community. Another great example of more than just time in service. Also check out the Esports Organization they support Brigade a Veteran Owned Entity doing great things. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dismount/message
Joining me on this episode is a Mr. Joey King US Army Ranger Veteran and moderator/member to Veteran Groups such as Veterans of Peace, American Legion, AMVETS, Moutain Ranger Association and US Army Ranger Association. Here to share his thoughts on a sense of connection he and others have found in participating in digital communities and reviving a sort of "tribe" like environment. The noticed benefits of finding your "niche group" and a few stories to share as well. We also touch briefly on a book called Tribe by Sebastian Junger others may find useful. Mr. Joel King notes it took him nearly 20 years to find a similar sense of belonging and connection as he had in the military and with the advantages of social media that has become easier and more viable to accomplish even in this time of remaining socially distant. #DismountPodcast #MilitaryVet #Military #PodcastersOfInstagram #PodcastLife #PodcastShow #repost #podcastmovement #podcaster #VeteranPodcast #VeteranMediaBiz #VetLife #Military
Let me share with you my opinion about low morale before we get deep into the rhythm of things. Morale is different for everyone. It may feel absent on those long nights long after you put down you phone. After a falsely hopeful attempt at taking a sleeping pill. It can be a driving force that you feel generate inside you when something calls to you and energizes you to follow something you passionately believe in. Morale comes and goes with the change in weather at times. But low morale in an environment like the military can cause a whirlwind of problems from the individual to the highest ranking person. In the military we have measures in place to check on morale. A battle buddy, a team leader, squad leader and so on. There are layers of support. And even on bad days there is always a chaplain to be found. But what happens when we leave the military? Well, some would say, there's plenty of assistance programs and services and resources that is provided things should run smoothly. Changes are when we leave we don't always do so because we retire and have fulfilled all the time in service we aimed to accomplish. A program such as TAPS is a core program many servicemembers would be familiar with on separating. They often cover primary areas such as resume writing, tools related to job search and prep, education related information and benefits explanation and more. But one area the TAPS program fails to address is the morale of the servicemember. How would we address this in a transition program in the first place? Why would we? And should we? I'd purpose yes to all of the above. Morale is not seem as part of transition because it is difficult to tailor a program to an individual. Yet it is necessary and more so to address morale during this time-frame because it will dictate the effectiveness of any other programs or assistance the service members need. Low morale is need addressed because a progeam must first learn to identify and met the service member where they are at at the time of leaving. Morale is a key factor in adjusting what that individual needs to succeed and in what order of preference would best allow them to succeed. Progeams such a TAPS fail because they were created to address core areas statistically and systematically shown to be areas of importance for military members as a whole who are transitioning. Not the individual that may need certain steps done prior to others in order to be successful in transitioning. Let's look at some of the core areas TAPS focus on. ... Now let's use myself as an example. Let's go down the list. #DismountPodcast #MilitaryVet #Military #MusicPodcast #PodcastersOfInstagram #PodcastLife #PodcastShow #repost #podcastmovement #podcaster #VeteranPodcast #VeteranMediaBiz #VetLife #Military
Staying Mission Ready. Maintaining fitness after the military seems straight forward on paper and in concept. But I think, as we all things, it is a case by case and individual results may very. I weighed about 135 lbs soaking wet entering into the Army. Played team sports and martial arts up until them for a good few years. My activity level as a young adult was I'd say average for someone who played sports. Then the military happened. #DismountPodcast #MilitaryVet #Military #MusicPodcast #PodcastersOfInstagram #PodcastLife #PodcastShow #repost #podcastmovement #podcaster #VeteranPodcast #VeteranMediaBiz #VetLife #Military
Every Story Has a Beginning. US Army Bootcamp No Direction after high school No aspirations. Only minimal experience in office and retail work. But I was good at sports and growing up that's what we did, sports so we could go to college. We learn so much from our parents but then we hit that moment when we must venture off and learn life the hard way. And learn I did, fail? Yes. Grow? Yes. Mature? Eventually. Career path was merely a means to and end in the beginning. But then you find a rhythm and discover you are good at things, and the military likes that and puts it to use. Overall my experience was enjoyable and mixed with good times, frustrating times and without a doubt no shortage of laughter! #DismountPodcast #MilitaryVet #Military #MusicPodcast #PodcastersOfInstagram #PodcastLife #PodcastShow #repost #podcastmovement #podcaster #VeteranPodcast #VeteranMediaBiz #VetLife #Military
In the military, especially in the Army, you are "issued" a battle buddy. A personal you learn to depend on day in day out. As you continue that support grows into a larger support group, your fireteam. Deliberation of missions and indecision is mitigated by these layers of support and leadership. When we move on from the military into the civilian world many of us may feel a lose of purpose or the end of a career. The reality is, we are merely moving on to a new mission, adapting to civilian life, civilian workforce, home life. Don't forget we still have our fireteam and yet remember some missions we be solo missions. We need to remind ourselves the caliber of individual that former military personnel are. Your now is your personal mission. Don't wait for a full fireteam to complete every mission. You are just as capable it is just a new mission. #DismountPodcast #MilitaryVet #Military #MusicPodcast #PodcastersOfInstagram #PodcastLife #PodcastShow #repost #podcastmovement #podcaster #VeteranPodcast #VeteranMediaBiz #VetLife #Military
Every team member we talk about, no matter how long I've known them will still surprise me in some of the most unique and surprising ways. Dr J, as she's known, though battle is what I use often. She is far more than the alphabet she carriers in her titles. There are things that individuals bring into your space that are far greater than their greatest achievements. Take a moment to learn those smaller wonderful details about someone. Many great people among us, and this Dismount Fireteam has a full roster of them for sure.
Many Veterans will surprise us with the level of experience and versatility they have acquired over the years. Miller is one of those reserved, calm, and observing mysterious people who would rather remain humble. But not here, we want to know more than is carried on the surface. After hearing a few stories, the photographs he shares comes to life. The extraordinary impacts he has had on other people will be difficult to realized but be sure to ripple on far and wide in ways many of us could only hope to accomplish. Far more than can be captured on paper and it often takes a fellow Veteran to bring that to light. Miller Time.
Had the honor of interviewing Ret SGM Ken "Cowboy Ken" Baschke. It was as enjoyable and interesting as I had imagined. And, basic training sounds like it has not changed much since 1975. There are many Veterans out in the community who may feel alone and in a dark place and this warrior is out here to let you know that is far from the truth. This community has the gift of connecting accross branches of service and over generations. If you ever need a someone to talk to, reach out to us. Reach out to Ret SGM Ken. Facebook and YouTube:Kenneth Baschke. Email : kbaschke@gmail.com. Leaving the service does not mean leaving that brother or sisterhood, Soldier care doesn't end when the boots come off.
This one was very special to me as in wanting to shed light on female Veterans what better way than to have my wife and former Airforce Veteran join me in getting this going. Changes for service members and veterans are plenty but the female Veteran has additional challenges. For that, I say this, Female Veteran, I see you and thank you for your service.
Had the privilege of speaking with a good battle buddy of mine, Mendez, Sergio. Twelve years US Army. Surprised to hear how similar our stories where. Some of the challenges he faces and what drove him to keep moving forward. This is a look at his dismount from the service back into civilian life. I hope sharing these interviews will inspire other veterans to share theirs and bring light and hope to us all.
