Behavioral issues are the #1 reason why dogs end up in shelters. According to the ASPCA approximately 3.1 million dogs are surrendered or placed in U.S. animal shelters every year. Even more worrisome? Thousands never get adopted. But there is good news! We can quite literally save the life of a dog with proper training and care. We simply must learn to listen to our dogs, communicate effectively, correct bad behaviors, and respond appropriately. With a little love and lots of patience, almost all issues can be overcome. On this episode of B's and Queens with Caitlin Palmer, we meet Dr. Vanessa Spano, who's a veterinary behavioralist. Dr. Vanessa provides veterinary support for the ASPCA adoption animals and victims of animal cruelty and hoarding. They talk about anxiety in dogs, what it is and how to treat it. Ever wonder what would happen to your pet if the unimaginable happened? Every year, thousands of dogs, cats, and other pets are left home alone and afraid, to starve when their pet owners aren't able to make it home because of unforeseen events or accidents. That's what went through Janice Cobb's mind when she unexpectedly ended up in a hospital instead of coming home to care for her cats. On this episode, we meet former ballerina, inventor, and cat lover, Janice Cobb, and learn about her very interesting life and why she wanted to keep pets safe. Janice is the creator of Zizie Pie “Save My Pet ID Tag.” Zinzie Pie has a line of stylish necklaces, keychains and bracelets, worn by the pet owners themselves, that can be custom engraved with your pets information as well as an emergency contact. On this episode of B's and Queens with Caitlin Palmer, we meet Dr. Evan Antin. While most people may recognize the local vet that takes care of their pets, chances are there are few vets that are recognized outside of their community. Dr. Evan Antin is one of the few vets that may actually be familiar to most of the population. He has more than a million followers on social media, where he shares his work with animals ranging from baby rhinoceros to tiny puppies, and is PEOPLE magazine's Pet Vet. He also has an Animal Planet show where people can watch him treat a large range of exotic animals. His work can take him all over the world, though he works at the Conejo Valley Veterinary Hospital in Southern California when he's home. This amazing man is often referred to as one of the sexiest vet's alive. He's even had a buzzfeed article titled such, and was given the title by People's Magazine. One look at his face is all you need to confirm how sexy he is, but there's more to him than just looks. His respect for animals and passion for wildlife conversation are every bit as attractive as his face. How much he cares about animals is evident with just a few minutes of watching him work. In one episode of Evan Goes Wild, he must get deworming medication into an elephant. Elephant's have a keen sense of smell, and though he wrapped the pills in attractive “pill pockets” made from grass, grains, and fruit, the elephant still knew which one had medicine in it. Through patience, respect, and trust in the animal, he was able to convince it to eat the medication. This is just one example of many patient and sweet moments he has with animals. Get to know this amazing human and how you can join his mission to make this world a better place. This program is brought to you by Petzey. If you love your pet as much as we do, you need Petzey. On this episode of B's and Queens, Caitlin Palmer meets Tok Tok star, Dr. Matt McGlasson. Nearly everyone has a regret at some point during their career, but for Dr. Matt McGlasson, that regret was at one point his entire career. After a year of slogging through one of the worst (and first) job experiences of his life, he found himself questioning whether all his years in medical school were a waste. Luckily, Dr. Matt's story doesn't end with his new career as a singer/songwriter, but instead with the changes he made to his career to make it worthwhile. With the support of his wife, Matt chose to change how he handled the world of veterinary medicine, and it helped his career in so many different ways, one of those ways is entertaining cat lovers with his fun loving cat themed content on social media. On this episode we meet the phenomenal Reagan Pasternak, you may recognize her from HBO's Sharp Objects, where she played a grown up version of a mean girl. But, what you may not know is that Reagan is the complete opposite of that character, she's kind, sweet, and a passionate animal lover. Reagan started writing ‘Griffin's Heart' after the death of her soulmate animal, Griffin, as a way to help heal her wounded heart and find meaning in her grief. Griffin's Heart provides readers with interactive tools, healing exercises, and unwavering companionship to help them navigate their grief and honor the life of their beloved animal ‘being.' The culture of grief when it comes to our animal companions leaves many bereaved pet owners feeling lost and isolated. Too often, the expectation from friends and family is that the mourning period should last no more than a few days to weeks. But the loss of an animal can be equally as devastating as a human loss — it's just that the support and resources for this brand of grief have been in short supply.
