Unusual Pet Vet is a unique business in Chermside that looks after exotic and unusual pets. Veterinary Manager Dr Tom Vowell told Shane Doherty on 4BC Summer Drive, "We sort of work on the things that they [normal vets] look at and think, oh, I don't want that to come in the front door." "That's sort of where we put our extra effort in and we put all the extra training in and we sort of use that to help them out," Dr Vowell continued.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

About 2 or 3 years ago I read a post that Roger DeGregori had written on LinkedIn questioning the plight of the abandoned big box stores on every corner while wondering what could be created within those structures... He had some ideas and fast forward to today Roger and his team have envisioned, repurposed, and constructed a vibrant community of independent pet businesses called Pet Yards. Jeff Bezos made this statement when asked about entrepreneurship at a re:Mars Amazon conference: "You have got to have some passion for the arena you're going to develop and work in, otherwise, you're going to be competing against people who do have passion for that and they're going to build better products and services." Roger checks every box for merging entrepreneurship, passion, community, and pets - He is one of the good ones in the industry and one to watch. On this episode of B's and Queens with Caitlin Palmer, we meet Dr. Evan Antin. While most people may recognize the local vet that takes care of their pets, chances are there are few vets that are recognized outside of their community. Dr. Evan Antin is one of the few vets that may actually be familiar to most of the population. He has more than a million followers on social media, where he shares his work with animals ranging from baby rhinoceros to tiny puppies, and is PEOPLE magazine's Pet Vet. He also has an Animal Planet show where people can watch him treat a large range of exotic animals. His work can take him all over the world, though he works at the Conejo Valley Veterinary Hospital in Southern California when he's home. This amazing man is often referred to as one of the sexiest vet's alive. He's even had a buzzfeed article titled such, and was given the title by People's Magazine. One look at his face is all you need to confirm how sexy he is, but there's more to him than just looks. His respect for animals and passion for wildlife conversation are every bit as attractive as his face. How much he cares about animals is evident with just a few minutes of watching him work. In one episode of Evan Goes Wild, he must get deworming medication into an elephant. Elephant's have a keen sense of smell, and though he wrapped the pills in attractive “pill pockets” made from grass, grains, and fruit, the elephant still knew which one had medicine in it. Through patience, respect, and trust in the animal, he was able to convince it to eat the medication. This is just one example of many patient and sweet moments he has with animals. On this episode of the Pawareness Podcast, I welcome Dr. Tannetje Crocker, a Pet Vet based in Texas that works with animals of all sorts. Join us as we discuss what it means to properly medicate pets, a few reasons why a pet owner may not be able to medicate their own animal, along with solutions for this troubling issue. We touch on the importance of communication with your veterinarian, the frequency in which you should bring your pet in for a check-up, as well as why the Southern US states ship out more pets than Northern states. “With covid, the shelters have been really clearing out a lot because everyone's getting pets… which is great, but it's also hard because covid's not allowing people to socialize their pets and so we're seeing some more behavioral issues and things like that that we wouldn't normally see when people adopt new pets.” - Dr. Tannetje Crocker Tune in to learn Dr. Crocker's powerful recommendations for pet owners, including the value of pet insurance and quickly addressing behavioral issues with training, as well as valuable advice for existing and aspiring veterinarians.
