Andrew Knight, popularly known as automation panda, was recently interviewed on the Modern Web Podcast by host Rob Ocel. Andrew, a software quality champion, developer advocate, and test automation expert, shared his insights and experiences in the interview. He spoke passionately about testing and the importance of improving software quality. Andrew discussed the challenges he faced early in his career and how he recognized the opportunity to enhance software stability, readability, and speed through effective testing. The conversation then shifted to the current state of testing in various tech communities. Andrew highlighted the wide variation in testing practices across companies, irrespective of programming languages or tech stacks. Smaller companies often lacked proper testing processes, while larger companies relied on traditional testing approaches that were deeply ingrained. Advancements in web testing frameworks and tools were another topic of discussion. Andrew acknowledged the long-standing availability of functional testing, which simulates user interactions with a website. However, he pointed out the emergence of newer tools like Cypress and Playwright, which provide a modern developer experience, making web testing more accessible, efficient, and enjoyable. Andrew also emphasized the importance of addressing user experience and visual aspects of testing, where human evaluation remains crucial but can be supplemented by visual testing tools like Applitools. The interview concluded with a glimpse into the future of autonomous testing. Andrew highlighted that while autonomous testing could never completely replace human exploratory testing, it held potential in understanding the behavior of software applications. The vision was to train autonomous agents to recognize established workflows, adapt to specific applications, propose test cases based on observed behaviors, and potentially execute these behaviors autonomously. This approach would allow developers to focus more on designing desired behaviors and less on implementing specifications. Throughout the interview, Rob Ocel and Andrew Knight discussed the trade-off between investment and return in software testing. They reflected on the value of maintaining extensive test coverage and questioned its significance compared to the effort required to sustain it. Andrew emphasized the importance of focusing on valuable behaviors and understanding customer needs when prioritizing testing efforts. They also touched upon the idea that not all edge cases or hypothetical scenarios warrant investing time and resources in testing if they have minimal real-world impact. Other topics covered in the interview include Andrew's talk on the eight Software Testing convictions, inspired by Japanese woodblock prints, which emphasize intentional design, accessibility, and the value of quality in software development. The discussion also revolved around the value of personas, engaging with real users to understand their needs and prioritize testing efforts accordingly. The interview highlighted the delicate balance between investing in quality and delivering value in software development and testing, with a focus on valuable behaviors and iterative learning from user interactions. On this exciting episode of Fishing the DMV, I have on Andrew Knight owner & founder of RVA James River Fishing Report website. We talk about the James river shad run that takes place in the heart of Richmond, Virginia. Richmond has way more fishing opportunities than I ever imagined and Andrew breaks it all down for us! Andrew grew up living minutes from Pony Pasture and has spent over 15 years wading through the James for smallies. Andrew learned how to fish for smallmouth by casting green Yamamotos all summer long but discovered fly fishing while in school at Virginia Tech. He fell in love with the sport and spent a summer and fall working as a fly fishing guide at the A Bar A Ranch in Southern Wyoming. While he favors fly fishing for most conditions, he loves all styles of fishing and still spin fishes to keep his pops happy…and because sometimes you just have to cover water quickly. In this episode of The Vegan Pod, we're asking "Do companion animals make vegans hypocrites?" For vegans, there can be a number of questions and concerns when it comes to taking on a companion animal, from the overarching question “is it vegan to keep an animal?” to questions around breeding and adoption, and, of course, what to feed them to keep them happy and healthy. To help us with this fascinating and important discussion, host Rachel New is joined by Veterinary Professor, Andrew Knight, and co-director of Vegeco, Damian Eadie. The views expressed by our guests are not necessarily the views of The Vegan Society.

In this episode Julian has a conversation with Andrew Knight, the Automation Panda, about his journey in the Python space. Over the years, Andy has worked his way beyond being in the developer job he'd always wanted, to being a prominent figure in the Python Testing space.Andy shares the story of how he started in the industry and what his first big hurdle was. There are just so many mindset lessons and tips he used throughout his journey that this is an episode you simply have to listen to.As Julian and Andy are mates off-microphone, the conversation is light, leads to quite a few laughs and is one of our lengthier episodes (I don't regret a second! - Julian).Enjoy and as always, give us a like/recommendation and please share with anyone that might find this useful.Andy's Twitter: https://twitter.com/AutomationPandaAndy's Blog: https://automationpanda.com/Test Automation University: https://testautomationu.applitools.com/instructors/andrew_knight.htmlHollow Knight: https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/hollow-knight-switch/

Let's talk about your founder type. There are various types of founders, and some are better than others at taking this amazing idea of impact and improvement for their customers and sharing that idea in such a way that everyone feels connected to it, owns it, and feels like they are a part of that impact when they work for you. Other founders aren't great at it but still find a way to make it work. Steven Gray, Andrew Knight, and Markus Baer got together and wrote an article about startup founder types in Harvard Business Review and I want to share those with you. The delegator. This person doesn't just try to get information out of their teams about how to get the work done, but on all of the pieces of the business, the moving parts, the whole landscape, etc. This increases buy-in and ownership. The problem with this founder is they don't clearly draw the lines around what is and what isn't up for debate. The dictator. There is clear ownership of an idea and the leader paints the picture of what the business or project should look like. Ambiguity is reduced and then everyone has to now focus on making that vision come to life. On the other hand, there is less room to influence that vision or direction. The designator. This is the perfect balance between the previous two. They define what can be up for discussion and what is off limits and has already been determined. Now look within yourself. What type of founder are you? Do you allow everything to be discussed, potentially causing delays, do you allow minimal input and increased production but then potentially creating less ownership, or do you balance the two? There is no wrong answer, you simply need to be aware of how you lead. If you like the idea of being the designator more than where you are sitting today, then make the change. Decide what is established vs. what can be discussed in your business, share it with your team, and start driving that change. Be Legendary!
The magic of music and Christmas can bring new love. A Christmas hat, a magic Victrola, and a special carol create dance and romance. Augusta Brown is a milliner in Philadelphia with a shop in front of her elegant home displaying seasonal hats of every kind: pillbox, cloche, peach basket, fascinator—feathers fixed to a comb, and large-brimmed hats. Her stunning Christmas display features a red and white hat atop a well-lit tree. Her late husband encouraged her weekly ladies club and bought a Victrola that he and Augusta used to dance to, especially “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” at Christmas. With him gone she spends Christmas holidays alone, and the Victrola sits unused in a corner. Yearning for something new, August feels like moving to Boston and opening a dress company but her friends urge her to open up to romance instead. When a handsome gentleman enters the shop, the Victrola starts playing “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” startling Augusta, who explains it hasn’t played since her husband passed away. Andrew Knight introduces himself and orders a hat for his sister. Augusta tells him to come back for it the Friday before Christmas. Augusta works all week on the bright red hat—and makes sure the Victrola is covered and in the corner. She tells the machine that it is the Friday before Christmas, and there is to be no funny business. As Andrew opens the shop door that afternoon, the Victrola begins playing right where it left off. In an awkward moment, Andrew asks Augusta if she cranked the Victrola this morning. While explaining that she hadn’t touched the Victrola, Andrew takes the hatbox and holds it at his chest. He wanders around the shop, admiring Augusta’s store. Then he finally turns and asks if she would like to go to Christmas Eve dinner with him and his family. After mumbling “yes,” he tells her to be ready after closing her shop on Christmas Eve. When Andrew arrives at Augusta’s door late Christmas Eve, the Victrola begins playing again. As Augusta rushes toward the Victrola to turn it off, Andrew takes her hand and twirls her in a circle. Augusta reluctantly rests her head on his shoulder through all five verses of the carol. Although she puts up a fuss for months, Augusta never buys a train ticket to Boston to start a dress company. She stays in Philadelphia with her hats, spending each Christmas with Andrew as her husband, dancing to the Victrola. Augusta is grateful for the midnight hour when love itself became clear.

Writer, comedian, satirist John Clarke was a legend in his native New Zealand and his adopted Australia. He came to prominence with his character Fred Dagg, but was also the creator of farnarkling, 'The Games', and the Clarke and Dawe satirical political interviews. John Clarke died on 9 April 2017 while hiking in the Grampians. There were numerous speakers, and the full audio of the event is online and outstanding. One of the speakers was Andrew Denton, a friend of Clarke's and a legend of Australian television himself, as the host of Enough Rope. This episode features Andrew Denton's eulogy on that amazing night, as well as a funny, emotional interview with Denton on the impact Clarke had one his life and career. We discuss the need for human isolation and what Andrew, (father of one, husband, brother and son) is doing over the Christmas period to get some pure isolation to recharge his batteries.
As a pastor Dr. Andrew Knight has always told his congregation that they can go through the fire and walk out not smelling like smoke as a metaphor, but today that quote has a brand new meaning. As Dr. Knight speaks to churches across Florida, many are amazed that he is still alive after a nearly fatal fire burnt 4/5 of his body leaving many doctors to wonder if he would survive let alone preach again. Each year the number of fire deaths in America increases dramatically and Dr. Knight is committed to using his ministry to save one life at a time. He is on a mission to connect people's mind, body and soul to unleash something special inside. Inspiring and ever enlightening, Dr. Andrew finds the deepest of joy in teaching people who are also helping others achieve the life that they want. In this episode you will learn: -The connection between the mind and body in unleashing your true potential -Dr. Andrew Knight's challenges as a practicing chiropractor who manages his own business -How to make yourself and others realise how to get out of your fight or flight state to have a better overall life experience
If you’re looking to grow an onion that won’t make you cry and give you that bad breath, Sweet Onions are your thing. If you buy them in the store, they’re usually more expensive than the regular onions. Sweet Onions are sweet because the sugar and water content are higher. That’s the upside. The downside to the higher sugar and water content, is that they won’t store as long as regular onions. Sweet Onions have a lower level of sulfur compounds which means they’re also easier to digest - and it also means they won’t cause your eyes to tear up during prep work. Vidalia onions were the first sweet onions to be sold across the United States. They were growing primarily in Georgia - Vidalia, Georgia to be exact. Today, we have other options including Walla Walla Sweet Onions from Washington, Maui Sweet Onions from Hawaii and Spring Sweets from Texas. Sweet Onions can be traced back to seeds brought over from the Canary Islands in 1898. Brevities #OTD It’s the birthday of Thomas Andrew Knight who was born in England on this day in 1759. Knight served as the second president of the Royal Horticultural Society. He assumed the position at the urging of his friend Joseph A Banks. Knight's inclination was always to turn inward. Banks helped him overcome that. He also encouraged Knight to begin reading scientific papers published by authors. Otherwise, Knight was purposefully shutting himself off from outside influences. During his life, Knight had inherited 10,000 acres of land and he used the land to conduct all kinds of experiments on plants like strawberries, cabbages, and peas. Knight was a born pragmatist. His breeding efforts were always designed to help make better plants in order to feed the masses. #OTD It’s the anniversary of the death of Sir William Jackson Hooker who died on this day in 1865 Hooker was both a botanist and a botanical illustrator. Like Thomas Andrew Knight, Hooker enjoyed the friendship of Joseph Banks. Hooker was wealthy; he didn’t need a patron to fund his expeditions. His first expedition was to Iceland in the summer of 1809. This was another one of Bank’s ideas - and Hooker went to there to collect, as well as to make trials of everything he discovered. Unfortunately, on his way home, there was a terrible fire. Most people don't realize it, but Hooker nearly died. All of his work was destroyed in the fire. Yet, Hooker was able to reconstruct his discoveries and publish an account called Tour in Iceland. Turns out, his mind was a steel trap. Hooker was known worldwide for an unsurpassed herbarium. By 1841, he was appointed the director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Hooker brought Kew to greatness; expanding the gardens from 10 to 75 acres, adding a 270 acre Arboretum, and establishing a museum for botany. In 1865, there was a throat infection going around at Kew. Hooker contracted it and died. His son Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker, and outstanding botanist in his own right, succeeded him at Kew. #OTD Today in 1930, a United States patent was issued to Clarence Birdseye for his method of packaging frozen foods. One of Birdseye’s first jobs, was as a field naturalist for the USDA. The job lead him to Labrador in Canada on a for trading expedition. During his time there, Birdseye observed that the Eskimos froze their food; finding fresh food during the winter was next to impossible. Birdseye became fascinated by their quick freezing process which cleverly used the elements of wind, ice, and super cold temperatures. Birdseye noticed when the fish was frozen quickly, it tasted amazing when it was thawed. Birdseye’s immediately wondered if the same process could be used with fresh vegetables and other foods. Five years later, when he returned to the United States, he invented the quick freeze machine and he started his own frozen food company. Five years after that, he sold his business to Frosted Foods for $22 million. The year was 1929. Unearthed Words “One day you discover you are alive. Explosion! Concussion! Illumination! Delight! There is a very helpful cure finder chart that shares treatments for more than 100 common conditions; for example: cinnamon to treat cuts and scrapes, Saint Johns Wort to speed healing, etc. For each Herb, there are drawings, the history of the herb, plus instructions for growing it in your herb garden. Today's Garden Chore Start seeds for fall crops. Your fall crops can include another round of quick-maturing edibles for the fall harvest. Try to get your seeds in before the 15th. Then, if you’re wondering what to plant think about leafy greens. Plants like spinach, lettuce, or beets are great and they can also be grown for their green leaves. Plants like lettuce and spinach, kohlrabi, radishes, and green onions are also an option - as well as turnips. Peas and lettuce can handle the cool temperatures and even light frost. These crops are also excellent options for growing in cold frames. Don't forget that bush beans, beats, and sprouts also appreciate to the cool temps of fall - it's my favorite time to grow - which is why fall is often called a second spring. Something Sweet Reviving the little botanic spark in your heart On this day in 1806, Thomas Jefferson’s 24 double tuberoses, Polianthes tuberosa, were blooming. Jefferson had obtained them from Bernard McMahan’s nursery and he wrote McMahan the following January to request for more tuberoses. McMahan has also created a gardeners calendar which included a list of seeds; including month by month instructions. The calendar was so foundational to Thomas Jefferson‘s gardening practice, that McMahan became his garden mentor. The two exchanged regular letters about gardening. And, it was Jefferson who selected McMahan to cultivate the specimens collected by Lewis and Clark - which he did. Thanks for listening to the daily gardener, and remember: "For a happy, healthy life, garden every day."

My guest today is Andrew Knight. Andrew is the host of the Still Unbelievable podcast and co-host of the Ask an Atheist Anything podcast. He is a contributing author to the book Still Unbelievable. Andrew has been a Recovering From Religion peer support agent helping others through their questioning. He promotes the message: "Let's talk about human problems from a human perspective. Human problems have human solutions." Andrew states flatly the faith tradition he was raised in, Church of Christ, is a cult. After attending bible college and working for an apologetics publishing company he began to be disillusioned with apologetics. He came to recognize the foundational claims of Christianity were not true. Andrew takes it a step further, even if the miracles of the bible were true this would not be proof of the core claims of Christianity: an infinite, all knowing, all powerful god. My conversation with Andrew is wide ranging as we cover his deconversion story and the work he now does. He talks about his disfellowship from the Church of Christ. He describes the difficulty in telling a friend who turned out to be going through the same deconversion process. We talk about deconverts being the most dangerous counter-apologetic of all. "Truth is a process of successive approximations" "Changing the notion of truth to something that can be investigated and that we can get better at." Note: Both the Still Unbelievable book and podcast are responses to Justin Brierley's Unbelievable podcast and book. Justin's podcast brings atheists and theists together for debate. Justin is considered an honest moderator. His book's subtitle is Why After Ten Years of Talking with Atheists, I'm Still a Christian. Matthew's and his colleagues' responses take aim at those reasons. Andrew Garfield stars as Doss, with Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths, and Vince Vaughn in supporting roles. The film was released in the United States on November 4, 2016, grossing $175.3 million worldwide and received largely positive reviews, with Gibson's direction and Garfield's performance earning notable praise. Hacksaw Ridge is quickly turning into the must-see film of the year: the true story of Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield), a pacifist army medic who saved the lives of 75 World War II soldiers without ever holding a weapon. It's that powerful combination of a visceral war film, a compelling social justice story and a very poignant biopic that always gets people talking. Audiences all seem to be appreciating a journey into the hellfire of war that leaves them with more than just a feeling of pointlessness. Critics all seem to be praising the juggling act of depicting such huge scale events on such a personal level. As always, I’m sure the Academy will be very generous with a film telling such an important historical true story. Meanwhile, everyone looks thrilled to see director Mel Gibson bringing himself back into the Hollywood good books. Screenwriters Robert Schenkkan and Andrew Knight chronicle the personal life, early rejection, spectacular heroics and later veneration of the first conscientious objector to win the Medal of Honour. As a Seventh Day Adventist, he refuses to ever physically harm a fellow human being, takes the seventh commandment - “Thou shalt not kill" - in its most literal sense, and recognises Saturday as the Sabbath. Throughout his military training, his superiors and fellow soldiers find all of this supremely irritating. They think he's just trying to get an extra day off, that he's doing all this for attention, that he's a coward who’s too scared to fight but too ashamed to stay at home, or that maybe he’s just insane. Sergeant Howell (a surprisingly credible Vince Vaughn) tries both the stick and the carrot, neither of which can persuade him to leave. Captain Glover (Sam Worthington) tries to convince him that the better translation is "Thou shalt not commit murder," which apparently doesn't apply in a time of war, although of course once you start making exceptions it’s hard to know where to stop. That said, Doss has no political sympathies with Japan. Just like his beloved brother, Hal (Nathaniel Buzolic), Desmond is determined to protect his country on the battlefield, even though their jobs in the shipyard would have made both of them eligible for deferment. As Desmond sees it, the only difference between him and his brother, or any of the other soldiers, is that he wants to serve his country by saving lives instead of taking them. In his words: “With the world so set on tearing itself apart, it don't seem like such a bad thing to me to want to put a little bit of it back together.” This is the climax of the speech he eventually has to give in front of a court martial, which is, in the film at least, the tipping point of his stalemate with the military. While they are moved enough to reconsider sending him to prison, they are still far from truly understanding his views. Needless to say, the day after the Battle of Okinawa, after he spends the entire night trawling through enemy territory rescuing mutilated soldiers, they all come to respect him, and his beliefs. As Glover puts it, the soldiers might not all believe the way he does, but they believe in how much he believes. Similar to Chris Kyle, whose life was chronicled in Clint Eastwod’s American Sniper (2015), Desmond quickly becomes the stuff of legend, someone who makes the men feel as safe as you can when you're heading into battle with the ruthless Japanese forces. Unsurprisingly, given that this is an American depiction of the war, the Japanese soldiers are largely demonised. After being talked about throughout the first half of the film, and having their handiwork shown by truckloads of bleeding corpses, they make their first appearance in a long, gruelling battle scene, one that perfectly balances chaos and suspense. They are essentially portrayed as scary goons to be blown down. Most of their dialogue isn’t even subtitled. There's really only one character among them, the commander who would rather die than surrender, though he appears far too late to really humanise the enemy side. Every atrocity they committed is foregrounded, so as to prevent the morality of the war effort itself being called into question. Meanwhile, over in the American camp, an array of the usual colourful characters are introduced from the beginning, though fortunately none of the cliches actually end up playing out. They all feel like real people, probably because most of them actually were, but even the invented or composite characters avoid becoming stock soldier stereotypes. Still, apparently it was too much to show any of the misdeeds they would have been party to on the American side of the battle. Even though the action scenes excel at capturing the scale of the conflict, they end up missing quite a lot of the complexity. However, Hacksaw Ridge was never meant to be a docudrama about the Second World War. Above all else, this is Desmond’s story, and thankfully the complexities of his religious, ethical and personal beliefs are explored much more fully than the intricacies of the war. The film introduces a harrowing childhood incident where, as he and Hal are fighting, Desmond picks up a brick and strikes his brother over the head with it, almost killing him. It also depicts their father, Tom (Hugo Weaving) as a raging alcoholic, who Desmond comes very close to shooting in the head when he attacks his mother, Bertha (Rachel Griffiths). This might be a fictionalised and exaggerated version of his early life, but it does retain the essence of the part his upbringing played in shaping his values, and later his choices. For instance, he first meets his future wife, a nurse named Dorothy (Teresa Palmer) on the day that he rescues an injured stranger from a fallen cart, drives him to the hospital and makes one of his many blood donations while he's there. Once he eventually gets to the battlefield, it looks as though this one poignant little story might be swallowed up by the historical monstrosity that is World War II, but it isn't. The battle on Hacksaw Ridge was certainly great and terrible, but to those who knew him, Desmond Doss was even greater. Written by Christian Tsoutsouvas.

Listen HERE This episode it was a pleasure and a joy to feature Diane Ellis who was referred to me by James Peden from Harbingers of a New Age, creators of Vegecat and Vegedog. Diane is their spokesperson, and is among other things an expert on feline nutrition, who has successfully raised three cats (and two dogs - of course!) on diets free from animal products, which is a success story I wish we could hear more of.She has very positive experiences and lots of great knowledge to share, for those who are interested in the issue, those who have tried to implement a dietary change for their felines (such as myself) and were not successful, or for those who are considering doing so now or in the future, in order for them to make an informed decision and hear positive and helpful information. We talk about Diane's wonderful cats Tomato, Razzie and Coconut, and I hope to have photos and videos soon. We talk about how the Vegecat food was created, and how important it is to follow the recipes provided by Harbingers of a New Age, as they were specially formulated with the help of a veterinarian Andrew Knight. We mention the horrors of commercial pet food and talk about the fear that many vegans have that they will harm their feline refugees if they attempt to feed them anything but a meat based diet, and discuss why some cats have not thrived on other vegan diet foods. You can contact Diane for advice and help through: leadwithyourheart@msn.com The following websites were mentioned in the podcast and are the links to the information about commercial diets, and also to the website containing information about Vegecat vegan cat food from Harbingers of a New Age.(Note and disclaimer: I am providing any links listed below due to the pertinent information to the issues and products discussed in this podcast episode. You can also go to her website to reference advice on this matter also: http://www.leadwithyourheart.net/Homemade_Vege_Meals.php where there is listed a limited time discounted price list for consultations in case you are able: $75.00 per a 1 hour session for all pets and humans in the same household. $45.00 per a 30 minute session per one household. These reduced prices will expire on December 31st, 2010.If you get some Vegecat remember that the creator of the product James Peden is very knowledgeable and helpful also, and their website has tons of FAQs.
