In this episode of Rewatching Oscar, I dive into one of the greatest films ever made about the theatre, stardom, and the razor-sharp ambition lurking behind the curtain: All About Eve. Released in 1950 and starring the legendary Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, George Sanders, Celeste Holm, and Thelma Ritter, this Oscar-winning classic isn't just a masterclass in acting—it's a biting, witty, and surprisingly timeless take on fame, friendship, manipulation, and power. We'll explore the film's iconic performances, the brilliance of Joseph L. Mankiewicz's script, the unforgettable character arcs of Margo and Eve, and the film's lasting impact on pop culture. From the razor-sharp dialogue to that haunting, cyclical ending—this episode covers it all. I even spotlight a few of my favourite scenes (with audio clips!) and break down how this film still resonates in today's celebrity-obsessed world. Looking back, was it deserving of the Best Picture Oscar for 1950? Listen and find out what film critic Jack Ferdman thinks, and which film he chooses for his Rewatch Oscar of that year.So fasten your seatbelts—it's going to be a bumpy night on Rewatching Oscar! Entering Christmasville - is the first in a series called: Ghost Town Christmas. Author Patricia M. Boardman reaches back to her teenage years, remembering the joy of discovering her German roots. A quaint pioneer church stood over her ancestors, as it does today…it's the only building left in a ghost town and inspired her to create this tale. It's 2007, 71-year-old Nettie Holmes carves porcelain Christmas houses .She pours all her love and patience into this hobby. Each a work of art. Nettie loves everything about Christmas, all the old ornaments that have lost their luster, are treasures in her mind. She can control her hobby and love for the holidays, but her family's life she cannot. Enter Nettie's daughter and granddaughter. Her daughter Noel used to love Christmas too, but now she has disdain for her mother's passion. Noel was adopted when she was four years old. She senses a clock ticking and she wants to find her biological parents before they die. Nettie, a genealogist, has tried for many years to locate her biological parents, but her failure to do so weighs on her heavily. Then there's Nettie's granddaughter, Miki who lives and works in Chicago - a far cry from the simple farm girl life he's lived. But Miki has just announced she's coming home to Iowa as she's gotten a job renovating historic facades in Nettie's hometown where the town has voted to create a museum on Main Street. Nettie and Miki find themselves teaming up to excavate the old ghost town for artifacts. What happens next - secrets are uncovered there that turn Nettie's life upside down! Things she did not want to relive or have revealed - long buried secrets intended to stay hidden forever. As Christmas approaches, the three women come together - finding answers to their prayers to unify and grow their family together on a special Christmas Eve. They all find a home of love because of a special baby boy at Christmas. “Patricia Boardman's book is a tapestry woven with love, charity, tragedy, truth and inspiration” praises Richard Paul Evans #1 New York Times bestselling author.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

From the coveted corner booth at Skip Paige' Little Bar, this episode of Big Conversations, Little Bar dives into how improvisation can reshape the way we communicate, create, and connect. The conversation traces a winding artistic path—from Chicago theater roots and a self-directed college experience to global adventures that tested resilience and deepened empathy. Along the way, the Melanie Blue shares with Patrick Evans and Randy Florence how improv and acting strengthen each other: acting adds depth to improvisation, while improv builds trust, listening, and adaptability for scripted work and real life. The hosts reflect on taking beginner improv classes, confronting fear, and discovering surprising community inside the classroom. You'll also hear about corporate workshops that use “improv mindset” techniques to help teams present better, collaborate faster, and loosen up—without losing substance. Plus, there's a spotlight on an upcoming desert theater production featuring Georgia O'Keeffe, and why creative mentorship can change everything.Takeaways:Improv isn't just jokes—it's honesty, character, and grounded reality.“Yes, and” supports better listening, trust, and collaboration offstage.Safe, playful spaces help adults take creative risks and grow confidence.Acting skills deepen improv; improv skills strengthen scripted performance.Fear doesn't disappear—courage is moving forward while holding it.Life experiences can become fuel for teaching, empathy, and artistry.Corporate “improv mindset” workshops build presentation and team dynamics.Community forms fast when everyone shares beginner-level vulnerability.#BigConversationsLittleBarPodcast #PatrickEvans #RandyFlorence #SkipsLittleBar #MutualBroadcastingSystem #CoachellaValleyResidents #SkipPaige #McCallumTheatre #MelanieBlue #Improv #Improvisation #YesAnd #Acting #TheatreCommunity #PalmDesert #CoachellaValley #Creativity #CommunicationSkills #PersonalGrowth #DesertEnsembleTheatre

A coming-of-age novel told from the perspective of the irrepressible Christina, whose encounters with Catholic school nuns, Italian mothers, and small-town Massachusetts will have readers laughing out loud, even when Christina isn't. "An awkward, spiky Italian American teen navigates family chaos, Catholic school, and misogyny in 1960s Boston, with brio . . . [T]his brash, witty, slice-of-life book is a feast. Think Adriana Trigiani writing with a sharpened nib, and pray to your own saints that we'll read more from Leone soon." -Kirkus Reviews"Christina the Astonishing is a wonderful book, the funniest I've read in a long time, though there's a lot of melancholy in it as well. All the Catholic lore is hilarious, and the portrait of Italian immigrant life is too . . . Leone writes so well about the awkwardness of adolescent sex and romance." -Tom Perrotta, author of Tracy Flick Can't WinChristie Falcone is a 13-year-old eighth grader at Precious Blood Junior High. She is growing up pazza according to her Italian immigrant mother, Rita, who curses a country that poisons children with chocolate milk and singing mice on television. The nuns at Precious Blood are giving Christina nightmares and facial tics with their daily descriptions of torture and martyrdom. All she'd wanted as a fourth-grader was to become a saint so she could be God's best friend and go straight to heaven and avoid burning in hell for all eternity. At thirteen, though, Christina's nightmares about eyeless martyrs have become dreams of escaping this place where she can see the entire trajectory of her life looming before her in a never-ending hamster loop that goes from Precious Blood to La Sposa Bridal Shoppe and eventually across the street to Carmello's Funeral Home without ever leaving her neighborhood only seven miles from Boston. But Harvard Square beckons and Christina's window to the world cracks open, along with the entire American culture of the 1960s, as she grows from girl to woman.Christina the Astonishing is an endearing look at an unforgettable character that will ring true to all readers regardless of the time or place they happened to take the roller-coaster ride to adulthood.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
For this year's Hanukkah special, we're revisiting the timeless saga of RACHEL, the Jewish actress so iconic she needed only one name. It's so interesting to look at her story again after the French Revolution series, because it shows that Market Ladies: The Next Generation were just as riot-happy as the original Sans-Culottes Squad. We're joined by Allison Epstein, our French Revolutionary history advisor, to discuss Rachel's (sexual) Napoleon complex, and all the revolutions that she lived through. When we recorded this, Allison's book Fagin the Thief was not yet for sale. But now it is!! Have you ever found yourself moving through your days loving Jesus, yet longing to feel truly awake in your faith again? If your heart has been craving a deeper connection with Him—even if you can’t quite name the longing—you’re not alone. And this week’s conversation on The Love Offering Podcast may be just the gentle spark your soul has been needing. I had the joy of talking with actress, producer, and singer Jen Lilley about her new devotional, Wake Up Your Faith: 365 Daily Encounters with Jesus. Jen’s heart for the Lord shines through every page as she invites us into a more vibrant, Christ-centered life—one anchored in Scripture and strengthened by daily surrender. In our conversation, Jen shares how this devotional helps us: reignite our faith when life feels ordinary or heavy, claim the promises of God with confidence, experience the nearness of the Holy Spirit in everyday moments, and walk in the heavenly authority we’ve been given through Christ. This is an encouraging reminder that we don’t have to drift, settle, or live spiritually weary. God invites us to reclaim the ground the Enemy has tried to steal and to walk boldly in the purpose He designed for us. If you’re longing for a renewed rhythm with Jesus in the days ahead, I think Jen’s words—and her devotional—will bless you deeply. Mayim Bialik has seemingly done it all: she became a beloved teen star on Blossom, earned a PhD in neuroscience, then returned to TV to play a neuroscientist on The Big Bang Theory. She's written books, hosts a popular podcast, and is a mother of two. But after a lifetime of slipping in and out of different roles since the time she was 11, Mayim is taking a step back and asking herself a fundamental question: When you strip away all the identities you've performed, who are you really? In this episode, Mayim shares the soundtrack behind her complicated family history, the angst that shaped her teen years in Hollywood, and the significance of her latest role in the upcoming film Father Mother Sister Brother. It's a wide-ranging conversation about finding love, loss, reinvention, and finding what grounds you. Here are her songs. Bob Dylan, “Abandoned Love” Bing Crosby, “Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?” Violent Femmes, “Kiss Off” Elvis Costello, “Suit of Lights” Neko Case, “Hold On, Hold On” Jay-Z and Kanye West, “No Church in the Wild, featuring Frank Ocean and The-Dream” MC Yogi, “Heaven Is Here, featuring Matisyahu” Learn more about your ad choices. In episode 220, host Galit Friedlander and guest Chad Geiger (dance agent at The Movement Talent Agency) pull back the curtain on what representation really looks like from the agency side and what dancers often misunderstand about it. We talk about essential pieces of a sustainable dance career: communication, contracts, headshots and resumes that actually serve you, and how your choices off the floor impact your opportunities just as much as your training on it. Chad shares insight on navigating direct bookings, building trust with your team, and why “doing the basics well” is still one of the biggest differentiators in today's industry. Tonight on Veritas, our special guest is Camille Harman. Some people search their entire lives for evidence that we are not alone. They scan the skies, read the research, hope for confirmation. But for a rare few, the phenomenon doesn't wait for an invitation. It arrives uninvited, and it doesn't leave. Camille Harman's journey began in 1995, shortly after she arrived in Los Angeles. What she witnessed in the sky that night should have been the end of the story. Instead, it was the beginning. The sightings escalated into abductions. Missing time. Physical marks she couldn't explain. And memories that surfaced only under hypnosis. Memories of beings that radiated light, and others that were coldly clinical in their precision. But the most disturbing element wasn't what came from beyond. It was what came from within our own world. Military personnel, present during her experiences. Human hands participating in operations that were never supposed to exist. Her search for answers carried her to Roswell, to the crop circles of England, to the pages of UFO Magazine where she documented what others refused to acknowledge. She studied the frameworks of Icke, Maxwell, Swerdlow, Bashar. She married a fellow experiencer and built a life where the phenomenon was never far away. Then, in 2013, everything changed again. A spiritual transformation brought her into the Catholic faith. A faith that views non-human contact through an entirely different lens. And yet, the sightings continued. Even at her own church. Meanwhile, her acting career accelerated. She appeared in the Academy Award-winning film Vice. She worked inside Hollywood, catered for directors like Roland Emmerich, and walked into homes covered in Masonic symbolism. She saw what the entertainment machine hides in plain sight. Today, she is a founding member of the Hollywood Disclosure Alliance, finishing a book about her three decades of experiences, and speaking publicly about what the world is only now beginning to accept. Tonight, Camille brings all of it forward. The abductions. The MILAB operations. The Hollywood esoterica. The Catholic reckoning. And the question that haunts every experiencer. Why me, and why won't it stop? This is not a story of distant lights in the sky. This is a story of contact that never ended.
