I had the pleasure of interviewing Anne Heche earlier this year. I, and everyone at the Behind The Velvet Rope Podcast, are deeply saddened to hear of her passing last week. Besides a career in Hollywood that most could only dream of, having started in some of the most iconic TV and Film of all time, she was an actress whose craft had been perfected to the nth degree. During this interview, she was so gracious with her time. She was kind, open, honest, forthright, a bright light and so very full of life. A trailblazer. I hope that by listening to this chat, you are able to get a glimpse into what a remarkable woman she was. Having spoken to her for just this hour, I sure did. We release this episode today as a tribute to the life of Anne Heche. Anne Heche steps Behind The Rope. Actress of Film, TV, Stage. Best Selling Author. Activist. Trailblazer. Director. Icon In The Flesh. Now Podcast Host. The ONE. The ONLY. Miss Anne Heche!! Anne is here to cover it all and have one of the most open, honest, raw conversations The Rope has ever had! Anne chats about her Iconic Career from its beginnings on Another World to starting in more movies and TV shows than we could ever list - Donnie Brasco, Six Days, Seven Nights, Ally McBeal, Nip/Tuck, Wag the Dog, to name a few. Anne chats about her favorite roles, the ones she wants to forget, her favorite co-stars, who she would still love to work with, and why this brilliant accomplished actress still has to audition for parts. Anne opens up about what it was like to be the original one Cancelled before Cancel Culture was a thing as a result of her bringing Ellen DeGeneres to a movie premiere as her date and Ellen's coming out of “Yup, I'm Gay” at a time when the world wasn't 2022. Anne talks about those ten long years when no one in Hollywood would cast her, her public fallout with Ellen, what it's like being “tied” to Ellen in the public eye all these years later, how The Ellen Show complicated her search for work even further and what she thinks, in a full circle moment, about Ellen's now Cancellation after being deemed The Queen of Mean. Anne talks about her star turn on Dancing With The Stars, her love of Reality TV - her Best of List is music to our ears - and whether and why she would ever join or not join The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills!! Of course, we chat with Anne about her book “Call Me Crazy”, the biggest misperceptions about her regarding the subject, and whether an open and honest discussion about mental health can be had stigma free in the world we live in today. Anne Heche in a hold nothing back chat like you have never heard her before. @anneheche @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope BROUGHT TO YOU BY: ORA ORGANIC - www.ora.organic (Get 30% Off Your First Subscription When You text ROPE to 64-000) DAME - www.dameproducts.com (Enter Code VELVETROPE For 15% Off Your Order) TALKSPACE - www.talkspace.com ($100 Off Your First Month. Olympic Gold Medalist The world of sports I find fascinating to watch! Years of discipline, conditioning, travel, competitions, etc. all go into building a winning athlete & team. Their stories behind the World Championships, Team M.V.P.'s & Gold are even more so. Can an orphan from an abusive childhood, shuffled from foster home to home, even living on the streets, low self-esteem go on to be a winner in life? It starts with the stories about you have in your mind. You have to see it, speak it, mentor with & surround yourself & your environment to condition YOU for victory! What an eye opener to hear about life after the games from one of my friends - Olympic Gold Medalist Dana Hee. She is grateful to God for her victories. Dana may be a familiar face, not only from winning the "Gold" but from television & movies like Mortal Combat, Charlie's Angels, Lethal Weapon & many more. She has also double for Hollywood's top actresses': Nicole Kidman, Uma Thurman, Gwynneth Paltrow, Renee Russo, and Jennifer Garner. Dana Lynn Hee is an Olympic Gold Medalist and is currently a Hollywood film and television actress, as well as one of an award winning stuntwomen in the entertainment industry. She also a noted writer, lecturer and television color commentator, and has an extensive background as a speaker to Fortune 500 companies. It's an understatement to say that Dana's childhood was hard. The child of divorced, alcoholic parents, she endured abuse, abandonment, and despair. The years of being passed back and forth between an orphanage, suicidal family members, halfway houses, a commune, government shelter, and finally a foster home, took their tole. Dana grew up to be a young woman with little self-esteem or self-confidence, and a huge fear of failure. To her, nothing seemed possible. It was as if the two words, 'I can't' were programmed into her mind, and she struggled to escape a lifelong habit of running from her fears. Dana looked within herself for strength and determined to make a change. Armed with an ounce of courage, and a glimpse of hope, she set out to make a dream of hers come true. Through the agonizing, against-the-odds process of this struggle, she made the transformation from a shy, under-achieving, below-average young woman to an Olympic Gold Medalist with a new sense of self-esteem, and, finally, some hope for the future. Her story of how this happened - and the lessons you can take from it - are enough to inspire the most discouraged soul. But Dana didn't stop there. She started accepting speaking engagements, then graduated to keynote speeches. She shifted from martial arts, to modeling, and then acting, before setting her sights on becoming a top Hollywood stuntwoman in the movie industry. If this sounds easy, it wasn't. To this day, Dana battles self-doubts whose roots extend back to her youth. But she never quits. She competes successfully in the world's most challenging industries.Dana's autobiography, One Step with Courage: The Story of My Life From Olympic Gold Medalist to Hollywood Stuntwoman, was released in May 2020. HORRIBLE'S SING-ALONG BLOG, SUPERNATURAL, EUREKA, THE FLOG, TABLE TOP) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss her incredible career journey. From her game changing decision to stop waiting for opportunities to come her way and create her own award winning and ground breaking web series THE GUILD (now featured in the Smithsonian)… to becoming an artistic hero and paving the way for so many others to stop waiting and start creating… to learning the harsh reality that the Hollywood system doesn't know what to make of “outside of the box” talent and that being a self-made success doesn't exactly translate to feature film and TV series deals with the major studios and networks… to launching her own content platform GEEK & SUNDRY and the immense pressures that came with producing 40 hours of weekly content with extremely limited resources for the monumental task at hand… to coming to the realization that being a healthy human being would make her a much better artist than just being a work-a-holic and making the difficult decision to walk away from GEEK & SUNDRY… to how the exhausting experience disenchanted her desire to write for almost 5 years… to Felicia's process for recording books on tape and why she felt the need to give trigger warnings to her fan base with her latest audio-book THE HONEY TRAP (now available on audible)… Felicia is one of the most inspirational examples of an artist who stopped waiting for permission and started doing her art, her way. Dr. Arwen provides “Hollywood Therapy” for a filmmaker who managed to scare away their previous therapist and Felicia and the boys geek out over their shared love for THE WRAITH (1986) in this incredible conversation with a true creative titan.

Our guest today is a triple threat. Actress, filmmaker, and writer, Zoe Lister-Jones, who made headways in 2017 with her all-female crew directorial debut, Band-Aid. The decision was inspired to foster new creative experiences amidst the staggering inequity on sets.A couple who can't stop fighting embarks on a last-ditch effort to save their marriage: turning their fights into songs and starting a band. The comedy-drama film, starring Zoe, Jesse Williams, and her New Girl co-star, Hannah Simone premiered at the 2017 Sundance Festival. Some of Zoe's most known acting roles include some of your favorite sitcoms like New Girl, Whitney, or Life In Pieces. I have watched Life in Pieces with my family many times and it remains a favorite. Zoe's love for performing and writing goes back to high school which set the foundation for a scholarship ride in NYU. Even though the film is what she's most known for now, Zoe has a background in music and theater. In 2009 she co-wrote and produced, her first screenplay, Breaking Upwards with Daryl Wein on a $ 15,000 budget. The film explores a young New York couple who, battling codependency, strategizes their own breakup. Operating on a thin budget like that turned the experience into a crash course or a production management Bootcamp in filmmaking for her and Daryl as described during our chat. A couple more production gigs later and she was ready for the director's chair. Last year, Zoe wrote, directed, and produced the sequel to The Craft (1996), a supernatural horror titled, The Craft: Legacy. A group of high school students forms a coven of witches.Wein and Zoe paired up again to bring a Sundance 2021 official selection cinematic experience to our isolated-covid-locked-down screens with what is described as a serene apocalyptic comedy, How It Ends. Liza (Zoe Lister-Jones) embarks on a hilarious journey through LA in hopes of making it to her last party before it all ends, running into an eclectic cast of characters along the way.It was chill and fun chatting about Zoe's indie filmmaking journey and navigating the minefields of live sets. Please enjoy my conversation with Zoe Lister-Jones.
