There are no shortcuts in life. It is going to take time to find success. Do it anyway. -Christy Cashman Welcome to the story of Christy Cashman, a listener favorite on The Story Behind Her Success. This interview launched about two years ago, and when I lost my voice due to acute laryngitis, I had to put recording new shows on hold and went to my library to find the most popular shows to listen to.  Christy Cashman is an actress who has appeared in over 20 movies, including the blockbuster film American Hustle.  Born in Ohio, she was raised on a poultry farm and is one of nine children.  When the family moved to North Carolina, Christy fell in love with horses. These days, she's a wife and mother of two boys.  She and her husband, Boston developer Jay Cashman, even own a castle in Ireland!  In this interview, Christy talks about her first novel, The Truth About Horses.  Chock-full of interesting characters, the book delves into the human experience through the eyes of 14-year-old Reese, whose love of horses sustains her during the toughest of times. Says Christy:  “In this story, Reese learns that to move on, you have to let go. Loss is just as much a part of life as new beginnings.”  Open, honest, and with a great sense of humor, Christy shares details about her childhood, including when the family TV broke, and it was never replaced. She recalls the magic of hearing her father recite poetry and the sound of her mother's voice as she read the children before bedtime. Christy is the founder of YouthINK, a teenage mentorship program. A gifted artist, Christy says she's learned some life lessons the hard way.  “There are no shortcuts in life. It's going to take time to find success. My advice? Do it anyway.”  For 24 minutes of entertainment and inspiration, just hit that download button. #horses #writer #actress #Ireland

Making a Difference Through Media Synopsis: On this compelling episode of Conversations that Make a Difference, host Teresa Velardi welcomes three dynamic women who are harnessing the power of media to inspire social change: Andi Buerger, Cassandra Tindal, and Danielle Bisutti. Andi Buerger unveils the moving stories and powerful advocacy within her forthcoming book, "Voices Against Trafficking," highlighting the urgent fight against human trafficking and how storytelling can drive awareness and action. Cassandra Tindal, founder and editor of Womenz Straight Talk Magazine, discusses her mission to uplift women's voices, address real-world issues, and foster meaningful dialogue through her influential publication. Actress and singer Danielle Bisutti shares her passion for using the arts to make an impact—donating a heartfelt song to the Voices Against Trafficking album and using her creative platforms to amplify important causes. Together, these changemakers explore how diverse media—books, magazines, and music—serve as transformative tools for advocacy, education, and hope. Their candid conversation, guided by Teresa Velardi, inspires viewers to use their own unique voices and creative outlets to make a difference in their communities and beyond. Guests: Andi Buerger, Cassandra Tindal and Danielle Bisutti Bio: Andi Buerger, JD is an international speaker, author, and advocate for victims of human trafficking & exploitation.  Andi herself was a victim of child sex trafficking and unspeakable abuses by family members for 17 years. She founded Beulah's Place, which provided temporary shelter services to at-risk, unsheltered teens for 14 years.  300+ youth were successfully rescued and assisted, earning national recognition. Andi later founded Voices Against Trafficking(VAT) to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves — the voiceless victims of human trafficking and exploitation. VAT advocates for the protection of every human's rights regardless of race, gender, culture, or socio-economic status.  Voices Against Trafficking-The Strength of Many Voices Speaking As One, gives a portion of proceeds from each sale to survivors of child abuse and trafficking, as does Andi's first book,  A Fragile Thread of Hope - One Survivor's Quest to Rescue. Andi launched Voices Of Courage magazine in 2023.  It is distributed internationally and accepted into the U.S. Library of Congress. It honors everyday heroes who selflessly fight to protect human rights. These champions come from all walks of life to change communities and the world for the better. A television series by the same title debuts in 2025. Website: www.voicesagainsttrafficking.com Bio: Cassandra Tindal is the Founder, Visionary, and CEO of IMAG Media Inc., and the creator of Womenz Straight Talk®. Driven by an unshakable belief in the power of women's voices and the need for meaningful discourse, Cassandra Tindal didn't just build a media company—she ignited a movement. As the founder of IMAG Media Inc. and the force behind Womenz Straight Talk, Cassandra's vision was clear: to create a multimedia platform where women and marginalized communities could speak boldly, be heard globally, and drive real-world impact on the issues that matter most. Cassandra's passion for storytelling isn't about headlines—it's about humanity. She built Womenz Straight Talk as a hybrid of award-winning journalism, documentary filmmaking, and advocacy. Her mission? To challenge narratives, elevate underrepresented perspectives, and spark conversations that lead to action—whether in business, politics, culture, or social justice. At the heart of every culture, in every corner of the world, lies a shared human truth: we are wired for stories. From ancient oral traditions to today's digital narratives, storytelling is the bridge that connects us—transcending language, politics, and geography. Cassandra Tindal and Womenz Straight Talk harness this power, using media and entertainment not just to inform, but to unite, provoke, and inspire action on the issues that define our time. Website: https://womenzstraighttalk.net Bio: Danielle Bisutti is an Emmy Award-winning and BAFTA-nominated actress, writer, producer, director, and singer-songwriter with an illustrious 25-year career in the Entertainment Industry. That's right—we're talking about our favorite bratty kids in classic movies. You know the type: too smart for their age, too bold for their britches, and way too good at stealing scenes from their adult co-stars. Whether they were lighting up the screen with sass or shutting it down with a glare, these kids were iconic—and let's be honest, a little terrifying. So buckle up, because we're about to revisit the child stars who threw shade before it was cool, and tantrums that deserved an Oscar. Let the chaos begin. Tom's recent books include Dueling Harlows: The Race to Bring the Actress's Life to the Silver Screen, everything you wanted to know about the two major motion pictures released in 1965 about screen legend Jean Harlow—both of which happened to be named Harlow—and the highly publicized efforts by rival producers Bill Sargent and Joseph Levine to out-do each other. Sargent's Harlow, a quickly made independent movie starring Carol Lynley, was filmed in black and white, using Sargent's patented technology Electronovision. Levine's Harlow, a big budget biopic starring Carroll Baker, was filmed in color for Paramount Pictures. Both Harlows were originally released within a few weeks of each other in 1965; both are available now on home entertainment. Dueling Harlows is available from McFarlandPub.com. Topics this segment include why the Lynley/Sargent Harlow is much better than what the original reviews would suggest; how Lynley originally signed on because Judy Garland was attached to the project, only to remain stuck on it once Garland quit; and why the real-life story of Harlow herself generated such interest in movie makers.

Queen of the stage, Alison Quigan is a mainstay in New Zealand's performing arts scene. You may know her best as Yvonne Jeffries, Shortland Street's maternally-minded receptionist, or from one of her many theatre productions, as Quigan has spent her career creating stories that portray the real lives of Kiwis on stage. She's back to her theatrical ways, directing a brand-new production by Sir Roger Hall, ‘End of Summer Time'. It's the story of retired cow cocky Dickie Hart and his wife Glenda's move to Auckland, a decision Dickie thinks is the beginning of the end. Quigan told Jack Tame that Hall's a great observationist, and it's his understanding of his audience that allows them to connect with his works. “He's been telling the story of this particular generation for 50 years, and he is very loyal to them and they are very loyal to him.” She started directing his plays in the late 80's when she took over Centre Point Theatre in Palmerston North, but as a solo show, this one is a little bit more complex than normal. “You're actually trying to create all the other characters with the actor, and obviously with the writer, and so it's a case of making sure that he's, he can get from A to B to C to D, to all of that, so he can get through to the end of the play,” Quigan explained. “So there's the practical part of understanding how a solo show works, but also reassuring and just loving what this other person can bring to the play.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
