The Coaching Routes Podcast hosted by Jay Slone and Max Pendery sets out to explore the different paths taken in the basketball coaching profession. Each week, guests will share their stories on climbing the industry ladder, while never losing focus on impacting the lives around them.
This week, we were joined by Indiana St. Assistant Coach and the founder of pickandpop.net, Zak Boisvert. Coach Boisvert talked with us about his time as a manager, the importance of film, photoshop and convincing people you are ready to coach. He gave us great advice throughout the episode, none may have better than: "Don't worry about money your first seven years of coaching" and "Never turn down a basketball opportunity". This week, we are joined by University of Denver's new head coach, Jeff Wulbrun. Coach Wulbrun comes to us with experience at both the high school and Division I collegiate level. He talks about getting out of coaching, advice he received as a young coach, camps, good fits, and understanding your role. He also talks about the importance of baseball cards in his coaching career. Coach preaches the importance of loyalty, trust and integrity for him and his program. This week, we are joined by Stanford Associate Head Coach, Adam Cohen. Coach Cohen talks about his time as a manager, working for Lute Olson, working under different head coaches, working with Rising Coaches and much more. For our first guest of season two, we are joined by Coach Jeremy Growe from Furman University. Coach Growe comes to us with experience at the high major level as a manager, GA, Director of Operations and Special Assistant to the Head Coach before heading to Furman as an assistant. Coach Growe stresses about making smart career moves, not necessarily going to a better title. He talks about his time as a manager and about being in thankless positions. Lastly, he talks about the benefits of a staff breaking up at a young age because to spreads out your connections. This week, we were joined by Marist College Assistant Coach, Dalip Bhatia. Coach Bhatia joins us just after being named the #1 Assistant Coach in the MAAC Conference by Jeff Goodman. Coach Bhatia navigates us through his route as a non-player through his time in college in the northeast region of the United States. Bhatia emphasizes taking advantage of your lucky breaks, learning from everyone on your staff, serving your head coach and players and much more. Throughout the entire episode, Coach Bhatia gives great gems from young coaches to take with them.

He has spent time at the Division I level as a player, support staff and as a coach. He has spent time as a Division II player, NAIA assistant, JUCO assistant and high school head coach. Coach emphasizes how your character can't changed based on your salary, having one foot in the box and one foot out, and that you need an opportunity to get an opportunity. Coach Scott really hits on the route of getting to the NBA and how to crack the professional business.

Coach Boals comes to us with a wide range of stops, leaving him one of the most decorated paths on Coaching Routes so far. Coach talks to us about how the grass isn't always greener, being a lifelong learner, finding coaches to study, making things easier for your head coach and much more.
This week, we are joined by Youngstown State University Head Coach, Jarrod Calhoun. Coach Calhoun comes to us with a plethora of different stops including being a Division I head coach, DOBO and assistant; as well as being a Division II head coach and an NAIA assistant. Only being 38 years old, he is already a national champion and a national runner-up. Throughout the episode, Coach emphasizes being a lifelong learner, coaching AAU, learning from being in the fire and from great mentors, and much more. He also emphasizes that a good handwritten note goes a long way.
