Most people think failure is the end. I thought that too — until I got rejected from every Ivy League school, barely scraped into Arizona State, and watched my career implode over and over again. In this raw episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on every spectacular failure that built my empire: the boss who said I'd leave dead bodies behind to get ahead, the million-dollar payout to a bad partner, and the moment I almost lost everything with weeks of cash left. From getting pushed out of companies to navigating a brutal divorce in front of my entire firm, these aren't just war stories — they're the blueprint for turning your biggest losses into your greatest wins. I share why the chip on your shoulder is worth more than a pat on the back, how to know when you're made of paper versus walls, and why your bank account is a direct reflection of the difficult conversations you're willing to have. If you've ever felt like you're drowning while trying to look calm on the surface, or if you're tired of playing it safe while watching others win big, this episode will show you exactly why failure isn't just the entry price to success — it's the only currency that matters. ___________ 00:00:00 Introduction 00:00:36 Welcome to the "Lowlight Reel" 00:00:59 College Rejection and the Arizona State Advantage 00:01:58 No Job Offers and the Vanguard Breakthrough 00:03:48 The Brutal Feedback at Vanguard 00:06:12 Breaking Into Goldman Sachs 00:07:50 Learning From Goldman's Elite 00:09:57 The State Street Hustle 00:11:52 First Time Firing Someone 00:15:52 Building a Billion Dollar Business 00:16:29 Divorce and Professional Attacks 00:18:18 Side Hustles During Corporate Drama 00:19:34 The CEO's Walking Warning 00:20:50 The Partnership Power Play 00:22:30 The Dinner Confrontation 00:25:27 Going Solo and Million Dollar Mistakes 00:28:06 Near Financial Collapse 00:30:49 Lessons on Failure and Growth ___________ MORE FROM BIGDEAL

We've all been there—juggling new tech, new expectations, and wondering if our students are really learning what matters. In this chat, we talk about “pedagogical debt” (the gap between what we know works in teaching and what we actually do), how AI is shaking things up, and why the right kind of curiosity can help. At its heart, it's a conversation about making sure technology serves learning—not the other way around. Kolb has been a featured and keynote speaker at conferences throughout the U.S. and Canada. We explore Día de los Muertos as a ritual that nurtures community, imbues loss with meaning, and helps us process grief while also connecting through shared joy.Summary: We investigate how Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, rituals strengthen family ties and cultural identity, and learn about its evolution from a 3,000 year old practice to a global celebration. We look at key elements like the ofrenda and explore how commercialization—like Mattel's Day of the Dead Barbie—raises questions about balancing tradition with modern influences. This episode is made possible through the generous support of the John Templeton Foundation. How To Do This Practice: Set an intention: Begin by reflecting on who or what you want to honor, focusing on connection and gratitude rather than loss. Let this intention guide the energy of your ritual. Create a space of offering: Choose a spot in your home and make it a place of remembrance. Gather meaningful items like photos, flowers, candles, or anything that holds personal or ancestral significance. Invite the elements: Bring in water, fire, wind, and earth in simple ways—perhaps a candle, a glass of water, a plant, or a piece of fabric that moves gently in the air—to represent balance and harmony. Add a personal touch: Offer something that carries memory, like a favorite food, scent, or song of someone you love. These gestures transform remembrance into a living connection. Gather in community: Invite others to join you in building the altar or sharing stories and food. Coming together in this way turns memory into collective celebration and strengthens belonging. Reflect and release: When the ritual feels complete, take a few quiet moments to notice what you feel. Offer gratitude for the connections that remain and carry their presence forward into daily life. Scroll down for a transcription of this episode. The practice of celebrating dead ancestors started long before Spanish colonizers came to what is now Mexico, but the Aztec and Mayan custom eventually engulfed the entire country, blending Catholic, Spanish, and Indigenous elements into what is now Dia de los Muertos. The festival even spills into parts of the U.S. Some people with Mexican Indigenous ties are working to cut through the contemporary pop culture trappings of the holiday and reconnect with the deeper, more spiritual origins. We'll also hear about Vision Maker Media's expanded push to train and support young filmmakers to tell stories driven by mission. The Native Youth Media Project partners with tribes, organizations, and individuals to develop storytellers at a time when federal support for such projects has disappeared. We're on the verge of November and college football is absolutely humming. Week 10 brings us a slate loaded with meaty point spreads, flawed contenders, and opportunities for chaos. We dive into every major matchup, starting with the uncertainty surrounding Arch Manning's status for Texas-Vanderbilt. We debate whether Kansas State is back on track in time for a showdown with Texas Tech, if Oklahoma's offense can score 30 points, whether USC can finally win as a road favorite, and if Cincinnati is good enough to break down Utah's defense. Plus, we discuss Miami's trip to SMU, wonder how Florida's offense might look with a new playcaller, chortle with excitement over Navy vs North Texas, and marvel at the fact that both Penn State-Ohio State and Arizona State-Iowa State are weird afterthoughts entering November. The West Virginia Mountaineers will go on the road to take on the 22nd ranked Houston Cougars in game six of their Big 12 Conference schedule. WVU is coming off a close loss at home to TCU, while Houston is coming off a big win over number 24 Arizona State. Houston is led by one of the league's best defenses. They are number 21 in the country in scoring defense, number 36 in total defense, 38th in rushing defense and number 52 in passing yards allowed. Meanwhile, WVU football's offense is one of the worst in the country. Rich Rodriguez's unit ranks 98th in total offense, 113th in scoring and 114th in passing offense. The Mountaineers are top 50 nationally in rushing offense, coming in at number 47. Zac Alley's Mountaineer defense, led by safety Fred Perry and linebacker Chase Wilson, will be charged with slowing down the Houston offense led by quarterback Conner Weigman. The junior transfer from Texas A&M has thrown for 1,581 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has also ran for 354 yards on 87 carries. Couz is joined by Garrett Ross from @365SportsYT to break down the Cougars and see if there are any areas the WVU team may be able to gain an advantage. #wvufootball #wvu #wvumountaineers Check out the 365 Sports Newsletter: https://365sports.video Sources: Song: Smoke Rising Music by: CreatorMix.com Video: https://youtu.be/_oaZzkn0bW4 ⭐️Sponsors: ⭐️ DraftKings Sportsbook: https://www.draftkings.com/ Appalachia Digital: http://appalachiadigital.com/couz/ Get Your Tailgating Stuff HERE: http://victorytailgate.pxf.io/CouzCornhole

At first blush, the plots of many horror movies don't seem particularly appealing. Take “The Shining”: A murderous psychopath tries to kill his family in a haunted, secluded hotel. But horror movies have had devoted fans for as long as they've been around, and lately, scary movies and television shows like “Sinners” or “The Walking Dead” have made a big splash. Why? What draws us to horror? And why are some people more thrill-seeking or morbidly curious than others? Host Flora Lichtman talks with two psychologists on opposite poles of horror fandom to flesh out some of the answers: horrorphile and behavioral scientist Coltan Scriver, and psychology professor Ken Carter, who's horrified by horror. Guests: Dr. Ken Carter is a psychology professor at Emory University and the author of Buzz!: Inside the Minds of Thrill-Seekers, Daredevils, and Adrenaline Junkies. Dr. Coltan Scrivner is a behavioral scientist at Arizona State University and the author of Morbidly Curious: A Scientist Explains Why We Can't Look Away. Birthright citizenship guarantees citizenship to anyone born within the United States' territory, regardless of a parent's nationality. But should this legal principle be removed from the Constitution? Those arguing it shouldn't say that it prevents children from being punished for their parents' status, while encouraging long-term economic and civic contributions. But those calling to end the practice argue it fuels illegal immigration and strains the overburdened immigration system. Now, we debate: Should America End Birthright Citizenship?
