Our best Diehard deal! Just $3 A Month https://www.gophnx.com/intro-offer-youtube Arizona's Becky Burke was tasked with complete roster reconstruction after being hired as head coach. Adia Barnes departed for SMU and after that players transferred out leaving one player on the roster. Even before Barnes moved on, Jada Williams, Breya Cunningham, and Lauryn Swann all chose to enter the portal. Burke has begun the hard work of replacing the immense talent of those 3 players. Arizona was able to secure Horizon player of the year Mickayla Perdue, Virginia guard Kamryn Kitchen, and Memphis guard Tanyuel Welch. Burke is also building her staff out as well, bringing back Julie Brase-Hairgrove to be an assistant coach. Brase-Hairgrove is the grand-daughter of Lute Olson, a former Arizona wbb player, and WNBA assistant coach. Is Burke showing early signs of success this offseason? PLUS! Tuesday pod, Hour 2− BREAKING NEWS: George Kliavkoff appears to be in his last days as Pac-12 commissioner.− GUEST: Former Arizona great Pete Williams and who and what he likes on this year's team.− The best teams and players at Arizona since the Lute Olson era began.
Tuesday pod, Hour 1− Arizona is in a stretch of games that was the hallmark of the Lute Olson years.− GUEST: CBKB analyst Evan Miyakawa runs through various team and player rankings.− Alabama has had its own challenging stretch with Arizona being its third top 10 opponent.
One of this week's opponent in basketball is Iowa State, so Brion summarized the games played from 1910 through 1935. Iowa is 48-28 (63% win) all-time. Fran McCaffery is 6-7 (46%) all-time vs the Cyclones. For comparison, Tom Davis was 8-5 (61.5%) all-time. The first game wasn't played until 1910. They played frequently (sometimes twice a year) through 1921, then restarted in 1933. They played again in 1935, then took a 35-year gap between games. They restarted the series in 1970, and have played almost every year since then. Iowa won the first 12 games, then Iowa State won in 1917, but Iowa won 7 more straight. The series became more competitive after the initial Iowa dominance. No team had won more than 3 straight except for Lute Olson winning 5 straight from 1978-1983. He also discussed the different venues where they played in Iowa City and Ames. Iowa State played at Margaret Hall Gymnasium from 1907-1913, State gymnasium from 1913-1946, the Iowa State Armory from 1946 to 1971, then Hilton Coliseum starting in December 1971. Iowa played in the Old Armory (Armory #1) from 1905 to 1922, where the current Communications Building resides near the Old Capitol. They moved to another Armory (#2) from 1922 to 1926 while the Field House was being built. It was located just west of the Field House in the current UI Hospital near Kinnick Stadium. They moved into the Field House in 1927 and stayed until Jan 1983 when Carver-Hawkeye Arena opened. Adam Haluska started his basketball career at Iowa State before transferring to play at Iowa for his final 3 seasons. He earned 1st Team All-Big Ten in 2007, and was an academic All-American. He was drafted in the 2nd round by the Charlotte Hornets in 2007. Dan Gable needs no introduction. He was a national champion wrestler at Iowa State, and won a gold medal in the 1972 Olympics. He took over as head coach at Iowa in 1976, and won 15 national titles and 21 Big Ten Champions before retiring in 1997. For decades Arizona basketball fans were used to a loaded out of conference schedule courtesy of Lute Olson. Whether it was North Carolina or Kansas, Arizona generally had a home in home with the best schools in the country. Under Sean Miller the Cats got away from that, but Tommy Lloyd seems to have reinstituted the tougher scheduling mentality. Will this continue in the Big 12? This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Tuesday, December 14th.You can briefly end your hibernation on Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service there will be rain in the very beginning of the day in the Cedar Rapids area, but this will eventually give way to sunny skies and a high of 48 degrees. On Wednesday night it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of around 28 degrees.Former University of Iowa President Willard “Sandy” Boyd died Tuesday at the age of 95.Boyd was widely loved on campus and was instrumental in the university becoming what it is today. During Boyd's tenure as the UI's 15th president from 1969 to 1981, undergraduate enrollment exploded threefold from 8,400 to 25,100. Buildings that either opened or were planned on his watch nearly doubled the campus' size — including Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the Dental Science Building, College of Nursing, Bowen Science Building, Lindquist Center and Hardin Library for Health Sciences, according to the UI Office of Strategic Communication. The UI Hospitals and Clinics saw its footprint swell under Boyd, who collaborated with then-UIHC Director John Colloton on a then $500,000 plan to upgrade the facility. He also had a formative impact on Iowa athletics, along with the athletic directors he hired: Bump Elliott and Christine Grant. Coaches hired under his tenure include Dan Gable, Hayden Fry and Lute Olson. He was also part of the renaming of Iowa Stadium to Kinnick Stadium, initially suggesting the name Kinnick-Slater Stadium. The sprinkler system, smoke detectors and fire hydrants at a Marengo recycling facility were not working or had been disabled before an explosion and fire last week that injured about 15 people, authorities said. The State Fire Marshal and local law enforcement are interviewing people who worked at C-6 Zero to learn what sparked the fire that took more than 200 firefighters to extinguish as the neighborhood around the plant was evacuated. One of the questions officials are asking: Why weren't the sprinklers working?“I can confirm there were two fire hydrants on site that were not functioning,” Marengo Police Chief Ben Gray said. “There was no activation of indoor fire suppression system and I will confirm we are investigating that.”Iowa Administrative Code requires all “life safety equipment” including alarm and sprinkler systems to be “in operable condition at all times” for structures where they are required. Failure to do this can result in criminal charges, said Ron Humphrey, special agent in charge of the State Fire Marshal's Office.A Cedar Rapids woman convicted of a lesser charge in the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend in 2020 will not serve any additional prison time because she already served 891 days — almost 2 1/2 years — leading up to her trial.Sixth Judicial District Judge Kevin McKeever on Tuesday sentenced Jacqueline Holmes, 38, who originally was charged with first-degree murder, to up to five years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. However, he said that based on the law she had served enough time before her September trial, and he was discharging her.Holmes, following more than five days of testimony and a day and half of deliberations, was found guilty of unintentionally causing the death of boyfriend Tremaine Williams, 35, on March 4, 2020 after stabbing him in the shoulder.A retired Illinois law and psychology professor, who consults and testifies in cases involving domestic violence, said during the

Locked On Wildcats - Daily Podcast On Arizona Wildcats Football & Basketball
Arizona Basketball used to be known as Point Guard U under Lute Olson. And for obvious reasons. The names were dizzying: Kerr, Stoudamire, Bibby, Terry and Gardner. Not only did these players play a style that people liked to watch, they were part of basketball empire that by any measure was one of the top 5 programs in the nation over a 15 year period.Sean Miller did some very good things at Arizona but he was never able to breakthrough and get to the Final 4. Additionally, there was next to no elite level point guard play, outside of TJ McConnell.Tommy Lloyd was wildly successful his first year at Arizona by running a style much more similar to what Lute Olson ran.
Not only did these players play a style that people liked to watch, they were part of basketball empire that by any measure was one of the top 5 programs in the nation over a 15 year period. Sean Miller did some very good things at Arizona but he was never able to breakthrough and get to the Final 4. Additionally, there was next to no elite level point guard play, outside of TJ McConnell. Tommy Lloyd was wildly successful his first year at Arizona by running a style much more similar to what Lute Olson ran. But the one question about Lloyd was could he recruit. Well, in the period of a few weeks he garnered commitments from five star guards Kylan Boswell and KJ Lewis. We explore the importance of the Boswell commitment. Today's guest is Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Golden State Warriors. Earlier in his career as a player, Steve won three NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls alongside the one and only Michael Jordan. He then went on to win two more titles playing for the San Antonio Spurs, and then he became a coach and won three more titles for the Warriors. Needless to say, this guy knows how to win, and he knows how to build teams that win. What you may be surprised to learn, though, is how he does it.
