Constellium Rolled Products unveiled a partnership Monday with the U.S. Department of Energy which will enable the replacement of three aging and obsolete casthouses in the mill at Ravenswood. The new casters will implement the most modern fuel technology available. “It's breakthrough technology to allow our combustion systems to be fueled by virtually any type of material, including when it becomes affordable and available, hydrogen. It will make us a carbon-free casting environment,” said Brian McCallie, vice president of operations for Constellium. The Ravenswood plant employs 1,100 workers. McCallie said the upgrades would protect the current jobs and that inclusions in the plan will make the operation prime for expansion in the future. Wheeler Parker, the last surviving member of the family of Emmett Till, who was with Emmett when he was lynched in Mississippi in 1955, visited McCallie School on March 13, 2024 to share his story as a first-hand witness to history. He came to campus as a guest speaker as part of the Mandela Fellow Endowed Fund, a fund established by alumni to enhance students' understanding of what it means to be an agent of hope, reconciliation, and social justice.  The Michaels-Dickson Scholars Program, which has transformed McCallie School's boarding programs into one of the top such programs in the nation, celebrated its 25th anniversary in late February, 2024. Troy F. Kemp Sr. is a passionate, award-winning educator, Hall of Fame coach, speaker, and transformational leader. Mr. Kemp was raised as one of 6 children, in a single parent, migrant worker's home in Riverhead, NY. The former collegiate football player's education includes earning a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Colgate University and a master's degree in independent school leadership from Vanderbilt's Peabody College. Troy's career includes spending 24 years on the faculty at McCallie, an all-boys school in Chattanooga, Tennessee. At McCallie, Mr. Kemp served as a teacher, dorm parent and administrator, while coaching his teams to a state championship in football and eight titles in lacrosse. After a year of serving as associate headmaster at McCallie, Troy became the founding executive director of the National Center for the Development of Boys (NCDB). The NCDB was established to improve the lives of boys by providing resources and programs for parents, teachers, mentors and organizations committed to helping with their learning and development as they journey to manhood. In 2019, Troy joined the staff of the Ron Clark Academy (RCA), in South Atlanta. At RCA, Troy serves as the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships and an educator trainer during its professional development events. At RCA, Mr. Kemp continues to provide inspirational keynotes, seminars and professional development for individuals and organizations around the world. For the first time in 31 years, McCallie's Wrestling team has won both the traditional State of Tennessee title, plus the State duals. And on top of that, the team under Head Coach Jake Yost beat cross-town rival and defending State champion Baylor for the first time in 19 years.
