Not all advice is made equal with Alexandra Covucci

Alexandra Covucci joins us.  She is a leadership coach who helps people who are really good at what they do work wise, be really good at who they are to have more impact, income and intimacy in their lives. I really like how Alex notices and observes people. Personally, she’s seen some things in me I thought only I knew about - like how I get a kick out myself and have a ton of inside jokes with my own brain. I really wanted to have Alex on the show because she wrote this post that moved me in the summer around how not all advice is made equal and why we should filter in information based on who we are when it comes to the feedback that’s offered to us. No two people are the same and I thought this was a really important piece to bring up in the self-help/ personal developmental community because so much of the teachings are generic and one-size fits all forgoing nuances. Alexandra shares with us that she had just reached her highest business income month ever ealier this year and someone in her inner circle told her that it was time to keep pressing the gas. Knowing herself, she actually said, “no, I’m actually probably going to go take a nap.” I really liked this conversation because knowing ourselves, our past, and our patterns deeply, is a crucial part of how we can make decisions that actually work for us. Kind of like, "there is no better expert in you than you."  We also talk about practicing receiving more money, more love, more attention and how Alex has done it recently. We discuss things like being brave and saying your truth even if your truth is a threat to your current circumstances. Alex ended a 7 year relationship 20 days before a wedding ceremony last year. My favorite part of it all is when we talk about coming out of the closet (and not just in your sexual orientation but in any way you may be hiding), being gay, Alex’s first kiss with a girl when she was in high school, and fitting in and belonging in the self-help community that’s pretty heteronormative currently.

Miranda Sophia and I have a lot in common. Not only in our life experiences, and because we are from the same place in the world, but around our approach to our work. She is one of the rare women I’ve met in the healing community who can hold both intellect (and science) and wicked magic like I do. It’s been so cool to get to know her and I feel really privileged to have been able to pick her brain so much for us on the podcast. We sat down and recorded a THREE hour conversation. THREE HOURS of free valuable amazing content guys! She joins us this week to talk about narcissist abuse recovery and her work with women. She talks about how narcissistic abuse recovery initiates us into our sovereignty and power as women in post-traumatic growth. We talk about the earth, water and fire initiations of recovery and what they each entail. To give you a little taste, earth initiation is all about reclaiming safety and stability for your nervous system, water initiation is about creating capacity (widening our river banks) to be resilient/ be able to hold two truths at once, and fire is about reclaiming choice and being in relationship in healthy sovereign ways. We also answer listener questions like does a narcissist know what they are doing, and talk about the energy and consciousness of systems that are failing us like the patriarchy. It may be an episode that you need to talk notes on, or pause and then come back to multiple times. You’ll hear Miranda inviting you to have consent with yourself and take the show in little bites too. This week on the podcast, I have my friend Sarah Bryn on to talk about how to move out of a lifetime of codependency by owning your needs, and being able to communicate them.    Sarah is an artist and guide who uses creativity to help people connect more deeply to themselves and their truth. In this episode we talk about the healing power of using our voice and learning to take up space as women again after eras of being asked to be polite and quietly move through life.   We talk about survival dependency and we question if it's manipulative to meet everyone else's needs to get yours met. Additionally, we chat about our mutual experience of having a hyper response to getting our needs met due to developmental trauma and finally, we talk about the change that is scary to consider when we let everyone be sovereign and respect other people's boundaries.    It's a must listen if you struggle with feeling like people never show up for you and this show may inspire you to show up for yourself in a way you never have before.

Sexual Shame Busting with Christie Federico

I met Christie at a retreat we both attended in La Jolla in March this year. We fell in friend love when we drove up the coast listening (and honestly belting) the hairspray and high school musical soundtrack with our friend Sarah when heading to dinner one night. I was very interested in Christie’s work as a trained therapist and relationship and sex coach, so I invited her on the pod for us to learn from her. We ended up talking about some taboo topics and we shame busted things like how to handle integrating our sexuality in the world as women, stigma surrounding s.t.i/ s.t.ds, and even discussed the extensive ways why shame takes hold in our sexuality that can stem from getting caught masturbating as children and what we are told and observe about sex growing up (we both shared our stories). This is one of my favorite conversations we’ve had so far on the podcast because the point of this entire project is to have unedited conversations that feel like you’re listening to me and my guest talking in my kitchen, and at one point, I literally forgot we were recording a podcast because of the raw honesty we were discussing together. We end the episode with Christie answering your questions to have better sex and intimacy - so this is definitely one you want to stick all the way to the end for. If you enjoyed this one, Christie is hosting a free masterclass next week that you can sign up for here - https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_j-tdKSITTU6r-SCAFUO2Tw

In this week’s episode, I have a very special guest on the show - my girlfriend Mel. I met Mel back in January and I'm finally ready to introduce you to her. We talk about gender, sexuality, the coming out process + what my aesthetic is. She says it’s 8 bottles of coconut water with a notebook beside my computer at the end of the day. I strongly like our banter and how we talk with each other. Mel straight up barely does social media, uses her phone like 20 minutes a day, and is she’s a school teacher when she’s not surfing, so the fact that she agreed to do the podcast and talk about being gay WITH ME was a real win. We recorded this episode in a park, so there are times where the sound quality isn’t studio worthy and I so apologize for that. The conversation was too good to ignore though, so I decided we are rolling with it.

Connected is back in your ear buds from a holiday hiatus. And oh boy, do I have a great episode for you.  In this episode, I'm joined with Jaclyn Michelle, human design reader and expert. I first got a reading with Jaclyn in November of last year when I was making some big choices for myself (urm... to go back to California or not). She helped me see myself better than I had in a while. So I had to share my obsession with human design with you in the form of interviewing this former 1st grade teacher turned powerhouse entrepreneur.   She explains to us what human design is and the purpose of it. We get into things such as: the 5 types, authorities, defined and undefined centers, and what the profiles and gates in our charts mean. My favorite part, in the spirit of Connected, is how we all interact with each other based on how our charts jive or trigger each other.  You may want to take notes while listening to this conversation ‘cause it’s so dang good. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. P.s: if you want to do your chart, this is the website J recommends: https://www.mybodygraph.com You can find Jaclyn at https://www.interiorcreature.com

009: Wild sensitive grieving with Lisa Nagel

In September of 2018, a day before I found out that my boyfriend had been cheating on me, I had booked myself an initial call with a woman called Lisa Nagel. I had found her the good ol fashioned way - through instagram. I virtually knew nothing about her except for the fact that she worked for a coach I respected in the trauma resolution world and she seemed to enjoy tarot cards. Obviously, that’s my type of human. The call ended up being a bust because I was staying up in the mountains of the San Gabriel Valley where on Saturday mornings, wifi was optional. Lisa was so accommodating with my unusual sense of chaos, while I thought she’d write me off as a flake of a potential client. Instead, she showed me incredible amount of compassion. At the time, I had no idea that I was going to have to grieve my entire 3 year relationship with a man I was planning on marrying before the end of the year. Yet, I still signed myself up to inquire about signing up for her wild sensitive grieving program before the big reveal. We joke in this interview, that like, what was I thinking I needed to grieve before the collapse happened? I felt a little crazy hiring yet another support person. I already had my therapist and my trauma resolution practitioner along with all my other wellness peeps, so it felt excessive. At one point, I felt like I had a whole other job just going to my appointments. But honestly, hiring Lisa as my new coach was one of the best top 3 decisions of my life. Working with her has actually lessened my need for more outside support because I’ve met and connected with myself in ways I NEVER have through her guidance. She is magic. In this episode, we talk about Lisa’s own journey with grief, all cumulating when she got divorced at 24 years old. We talk about grief as an invitation, what it invited Lisa to and what it could be inviting you to do. She teaches us about holy truths surrounding grief - that you want to hear if you’re going through a hard time so that things can make more sense. We also talk about what grief feels like. Lisa gives us tips on how to navigate fresh heartbreak and loss and she tells us about the storm season and how to honor that you’re in it. She talks to us about processed and unprocessed grief and guides us on how to softly meet ourselves, perhaps for the very first time, after our world falls apart.

She let’s us know that our relationship to self and our relationship to our community can be simultaneously existing at all times through example as a kundalini yoga teacher and holistic nutritionist.    I really love this woman and her wealth of knowledge is uncanny. Because of this, she came on the pod to talk with me about what’s wrong with the world, kundalini yoga, nurturing female friendships, her past with disordered eating and how she has cultivated a positive long lasting loving relationship with food.    She also loves eye contact, so come to her classes and her life changing women’s circles if you’re in our area.
