Rochester rave survivor, Purchase/White Plains running buddy via Aurora. They unpack decades: Jenni's attic stoner days, early acid/coke/ecstasy raves (Toronto runs, Sputnik parties, Rabbit in the Moon Doors cover), PCP bong hits, heavy heroin spiral (via Dave/Todd/DK circle), Brooklyn dope-sick chaos (doom sessions, Afrin-bottle tar smoking), California sober shift (mushrooms epiphany, divorce, working out), and current North Carolina life (California sober, thrifting, no heroin/ecstasy since kids). Jenny opens up about childhood trauma (abusive junkie dad, sexual abuse), brother's $300K safe heist gone wrong, jail/probation dodging, and cold-turkey quit post-pregnancy. Dave reflects on linked timelines (heroin origins, shared friends, Southern roots insight), misses Todd, plugs sponsors (Oro, Mountainside, Orchard, Recovery Unplugged), reads Spotify comments on Kevin McEnroe ep, teases Dopeywood 2026, and closes with listener's raw “Good So Bad” cover. In this deeply personal episode, Dr. Kibby shares her transformative experience at a healing retreat for breast cancer survivors, centered around a special plant medicine. Can alternative forms of mental health treatment heal wounds that even therapy can't touch? In this episode, Dr. Kibby recounts journey of deep healing through plant medicine, facilitated by a supportive community of women and guided by expert facilitators. Alternative treatments like plant medicine (of all different types) offer new ways of addressing deep trauma. Dr. Kibby participated in a plant medicine healing retreat for breast cancer survivors, organized by The Survivorship Collective. What she thought was going to be just a fun week turned into a life-changing experience. Dr. Kibby talks about the insights she gained about trauma, self-compassion, and the power of collective healing. She delves into the emotional aftermath of her cancer treatment, the unexpected connections between past traumas, and the unique healing potential of plant medicine within a sacred tradition practiced for generations. Dr. Kibby reflects on the importance of setting intentions, embracing vulnerability, and trusting the body's innate ability to heal. Of course, as the field of psychiatry and clinical psychology are excited about the new treatment options- Dr. Kibby also discusses the need for caution. It's important to only engage in treatments that are legal, safe, regulated, evidence-based and monitored by careful medical supervision. Consult with your doctor or other medical provider before making treatment decisions for yourself. Resources:The Survivorship Collective

There are conversations that stretch you a little. And then there are conversations that gently but firmly rearrange the furniture in your mind. This week, I sat down with Keith Kurlander and Will Van Derveer—co-founders of the Integrative Psychiatry Institute—to talk about something that's generating a lot of curiosity and, let's be honest, some anxiety: psychedelic-assisted therapy. Before you brace yourself, this isn't a hype session. It's a thoughtful, grounded conversation about trauma, the nervous system, and what happens when traditional therapy isn't enough to reach the deepest layers of pain we carry. We explored how trauma shapes our personalities, how it imprints on the body, and why insight alone often doesn't create lasting change. As someone who cares deeply about the Enneagram and recovery, I found this especially compelling. So much of our personality structure is built around adaptation—strategies that once kept us safe but now quietly run the show. Keith and Will explain how psychedelic-assisted therapy, when done legally and in carefully structured clinical settings, may help people access and heal places that feel otherwise unreachable. We also talk about the risks, the ethics, and the importance of discernment. This isn't about chasing peak experiences. It's about healing what's unfinished. If you've ever felt stuck in patterns that insight alone couldn't untangle… if you've wondered whether deeper healing is possible… this conversation might open a door.           LEARN MORE ABOUT WILL AND KEITH WILL VAN DERVEER, MD, is a leader in the adoption of integrative psychiatry practices to treat mental health issues. He is cofounder of the Integrative Psychiatry Institute and Integrative Psychiatry Centers and cohost of The Higher Practice Podcast for Optimal Mental Health. Dr. Van Derveer has published research on MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD [1] and written book chapters in the fields of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and other clinical applications of psychedelic compounds. His passion is finding effective relief from psychological suffering using a vast array of the most natural approaches possible. In addition to traditional medical training, He is a meditation instructor and has trained in shamanism, EMDR, somatic experiencing, internal family systems, cognitive behavioral therapy, and hypnosis. And anyone who has ever felt unseen. Readers describe Kalise's writing as:• “Life-altering” • “The first time I felt seen” • “Raw, real, and healing”Her book invites readers to confront their truth — not with shame — but with compassion, faith, and hope.Support PEG by checking out our Sponsors:Download and use Newsly for free now from www.newsly.me or from the link in the description, and use promo code “GHOST” and receive a 1-month free premium subscription. The best tool for getting podcast guests:https://podmatch.com/signup/phantomelectricghostSubscribe to our Instagram for exclusive content:https://www.instagram.com/expansive_sound_experiments/Subscribe to our YouTube https://youtube.com/@phantomelectricghost?si=rEyT56WQvDsAoRprRSShttps://anchor.fm/s/3b31908/podcast/rssSubstackhttps://substack.com/@phantomelectricghost?utm_source=edit-profile-page

Journey with Jake

#205 - Some stories don't just move you—they recalibrate your sense of what's possible. Adriene Caldwell grew up in the crosshairs of untreated schizophrenia, constant relocation, and a home life that spun from denial to violence. After losing the grandmother who shielded her, she entered a foster system that should have offered stability and instead delivered degradation: separate dishes, floor seating, and rules designed to remind her she didn't belong. The stats she shares are brutal—one in five inmates are former foster youth, seven in ten foster girls have a child by 21, and fewer than three percent use free college benefits—but the real shock is how incentives often reward keeping kids “high need” rather than helping them heal. What changed her trajectory was a lifeline she claimed for herself: a coveted congressional exchange to Germany. There, a host family modeled warmth, boundaries, and trust. Adriene learned German the hard way—by speaking it every day—aced tough classes at a college-track school, and felt the shift that happens when someone insists you sit in the front seat for the view. Returning stateside just shy of 18, she found no plan waiting and wrote letters up the chain until one emerged. Along the way, a third-grade math teacher delivered hotel toiletries to a housing project, and a fierce English teacher stocked her classroom with computers and left one to Adriene before she died. Those acts—practical, personal, and precisely timed—became stepping stones to scholarships and a future she couldn't yet picture. We also explore why Adriene wrote Unbroken, Life Outside the Lines, and how revisiting old case files forced a reckoning with both the parts of survival that became manipulation and the parts that deserve pride. Her message to teens at the edge is simple and urgent: your life won't always look like this, and soon your choices will shape what comes next—numbing or healing, hiding or asking, repeating or rebuilding. If this conversation resonates, share it with someone who needs proof that change is possible. Send us a textFree Gift : Click here for MasterclassEver notice the tension where you know being visible is the next step: at work, in love, or in your direction and yet something in you quietly holds back? This episode goes straight to that contradiction. The block isn't a lack of confidence. And it isn't fear or self-doubt.It's a nervous system that learned, at some point, that visibility didn't lead to response, safety, or return, so it adapted by conserving energy. Not consciously. Automatically. We explore how attachment patterns and social environments teach systems when to offer themselves forward and when to withdraw. That withdrawal wasn't a failure. It was intelligent. It preserved dignity and stability when expression wasn't met.The problem is that this strategy doesn't automatically update when life changes. You'll hear why logic, mindset work, and “putting yourself out there” often fail here, not because they're wrong, but because systems don't respond to insight. They respond to conditions. This episode introduces a clear internal model: one part of you oriented toward expansion and contribution, and another responsible for safety and inhibition.Nothing is wrong with either part. The tension comes from how long one has been running the system alone.Rather than pushing for visibility, we reorient toward what allows systems to stand down on their own — the conditions under which expression becomes safe again and movement resumes without force. If what you're noticing right now isn't urgency or excitement, but a quiet readiness a sense that you're done being held back that's often the signal that structure, not pressure, is what's needed next.I've created a free masterclass that lays out the structure required for growth after withdrawal, not confidence training or hustle, but the conditions that allow a system to re-engage and rebuild. If that feels relevant, you'll find it at the top of the show notes.

What if the hardest part of healing isn't forgiving others — but returning to the part of yourself you left behind? In this episode of The Lucas Mack Show, Lucas shares a deeply personal story from childhood — a moment of abandonment that shaped how he learned to survive by disconnecting from his true self. What begins as a seemingly small memory reveals a universal pattern: when fear, pain, or trauma overwhelms us, we don't just endure it — we abandon parts of ourselves to stay safe.As adults, that survival strategy becomes a prison. We wear masks. We armor up.We perform strength. And slowly, we lose touch with the innocent, truthful, loving self we once were.In this episode, Lucas explores:How childhood trauma teaches us to abandon our inner childWhy survival masks feel protective but keep us stuckThe difference between coping and healingWhy freedom requires facing, naming, and speaking past painHow to become the hero and rescuer of your own inner innocenceThis isn't about blaming the past — it's about reclaiming what was lost.Healing begins when you stop waiting for someone else to save you…and choose to return to the part of you that never stopped longing for truth and love. You don't heal by becoming stronger. You heal by becoming whole. If you've ever felt disconnected from yourself, stuck in performance, or afraid to slow down and feel — this episode is for you.

She self-reported to CPS and law enforcement,  but they have not done a formal removal yet, and their solutions involved bringing the child back home or kinship (not an option). The offending child is currently in a temporary behavioral hospital, and a Refusal to Assume Parental Responsibility was opened on my friend because she will not pick him up, especially not until he receives specialized treatment for sexual aggression. The other children deserve a safe home to heal. Has anyone been through this before? If, after treatment, she still does not feel like it's in the children's best interest for him to return home, what are her options? Resources:Resources for Finding an Adoption-Competent TherapistGil Institute for Trauma Recovery & EducationHelping a Child Heal from Sexual AbuseSupport the showPlease leave us a rating or review. Facing life-altering trauma like injury/disability? In this episode of Adulting with Autism, host April explores resilience without romanticism with Joshua Dvorkin, Registered Psychotherapist/Reclamation Coach and Headway Mental Health founder. After a 2004 epileptic seizure/spinal cord injury (paralyzed chest-down, ventilator-bound with 20% survival odds), Joshua defied prognosis—off ventilator in 10 days, independent in 6 months, earning 3 degrees (Master's Psychology)—now guiding ND folks (autism/ADHD) through chronic illness/disability/transitions/LGBTQ2S+ support via radical compassion/authentic empowerment/narrative sovereignty. Key insights: Injury rebirth: Mind strength/10-day recovery; present gratitude crushes fear (beyond "stay positive"). Radical acceptance: Embrace reality, small steps close gaps (dream big, actionable traits). Narrative sovereignty: Own your story—beliefs shape reality (no pathologizing, validate strengths). Manifesting concrete: Steps over woo (research/skills import, affirmations/repetition for beliefs). Grief/pressure: Feel ungrateful/angry/anxious—use fear for freedom; peer support/community for purpose. Tools: 7-day negative thinking DM (Instagram @headway.mental.health), 7-column thought record (reframe emotions/evidence). Support mistakes: Pathologize/judge; instead, normalize/validate (safe spaces, no rushing). Society changes: Inclusive mental health first (non-judgmental, community over segregation). For autistic/ADHD adults in grief/isolation, Joshua's lived expertise flips "impossible" to purposeful—free 45-page stress workbook at headwaymentalhealth.com.   In this powerful episode of American Potential, host David From speaks with Army combat veteran Dallas Knight and retired Air Force Colonel Lorraine Slater about their journeys of service, sacrifice, and healing. They recount experiences from Iraq combat missions to aeromedical evacuations, and how those challenges shaped their drive to continue serving fellow veterans after returning home. Knight shares why she founded Operation Juliet, a nonprofit dedicated to helping female veterans recover from military sexual trauma (MST) and reconnect with their sense of identity, while Slater explains her work with Veterans Navigation Network, guiding veterans through VA healthcare, disability claims, and suicide prevention resources. Together, they offer powerful insight into the urgent need for VA reform, mental health support, and a national effort to truly see and hear our veterans beyond a simple “thank you for your service.”
