Not every relationship can survive abuse. And honestly, repairing a relationship after abuse is often not possible.  My story is a little different. Trigger warning: talk of suicide and physical abuse.  I've shared some of my relationship on the podcast before, but I think it's important to share more behind-the-scenes. By sharing our stories, we find community and hope especially when others go through similar challenges.  If you haven't already, you can find the original episode for context. At that point in my healing journey, I couldn't narrate the story myself and had support to guide the conversation. I also did an episode with Kaitlyn Jorgensen, where we discussed valuable resources and guidance that can be beneficial for anyone going through an abusive situation. My husband and I faced numerous challenges, starting with the definition of our roles in the relationship. We also dealt with some pretty big relationship issues, including starting our lives together without support, dealing with judgemental family members, and holding on to resentments.  The turning point came when my husband began showing some aggressive behaviors. I tried everything within my power to support him, but things continued to get worse, and he began talking about taking his own life. One of the scariest moments was when he woke me in the middle of the night, asking for help to hold a gun.  Things escalated when he started becoming physically aggressive. All it took was one explosion and I knew I needed to get out. This period of my life marked a season of resilience and growth. It was incredibly painful, but I experienced incredible transformation. And so did my husband.  It's important to remember that when you look at a relationship from the outside or see on social media, you don't know the full story or what someone has walked through.  Listen to the full episode for all the details.  Hang out with me:  Facebook: https://facebook.com/drbethwestie Instagram: https://instagram.com/drbethwestie If you have questions or just want to connect, shoot me a DM on instagram @drbethwestie or contact@drbethwestie.com

In Phyllis's own words:I have just written book called America in Therapy: A New Approach To Hope And Healing For A Nation In Crisis, in which I talk about the urgency to bring our whole country to therapy in a way never written about before. From years of experience as a client myself, and well over 30 years of experience as a psychotherapist working extensively with individual and family dysfunction and abuse, I felt a deep calling to share all I have learned with the public and demonstrate how the principles of the best psychotherapy can be used to help heal our country of escalating hatred, divisiveness and violence. I speak to all of us who fear for our children and all future generations, who may feel hopeless or resigned or simply don't know what to do to help create a more loving and sustainable world. I bring a message of both urgency and hope, in language the layman can easily relate to and understand, through personal stories, client case studies, and professional expertise. My basic premise is that we are on a collision course with our own extinction and I see this as a national and global mental health crisis that is not being addressed. I explore the direct correlation between the most destructive family dynamics on the individual level and many of the behaviors and actions of some of our most powerful institutions and leaders, and I highlight that millions of us are suffering the effects of national psychological dysfunction in ways we might not be aware of. I help the listener understand that many answers of how to heal our human relations and restore us to peace and safety are already known and used effectively in the field of psychotherapy and that there is HOPE if we can take everything we know about healing into national conversation. The best psychotherapy helps interrupt the cycle of violence— which is our best hope of prevention— and it involves a total reversal of many of the beliefs and dynamics that now run our country. I share with the listener, in ways not commonly understood or generally spoken of, all I have learned about what is needed to help restore us to safety, and how every one of us can participate in healing ourselves and our country, no matter how large or small our sphere of influence.Learn more at:https://www.phyllisleavitt.com Please leave a review or send us a Voice note letting us know what you enjoyed at:Back2Basics reconnecting to the essence of YOU (podpage.com)Follow us on IG and FB @Back2BasicsPodcast

I discovered a passion for storytelling after deciding I wanted to be a public speaker, I figured live storytelling was a good place to hone my craft. Like too many others, I experienced childhood sexual abuse, and later in my life shifted my beliefs from denial about its impacts, to embracing a process of healing. I developed an urge to speak about it, a kind of public service announcement. Through storytelling I discovered the salve of being witnessed in speaking our truths in front of an audience and now host spaces where women can share their stories and ideas through their voice. My book Speaking From The Scar, where I share my journey of healing, my experiences and the modalities that have supported me to be able to speak from the scar is available on Amazon: Speaking From the Scar. And my next project is a meditation program filled with the meditations that have supported me to heal … stay tuned! I do hope to meet you at a Story Night soon. Today's guest is Rosemary Tong Davidson. Rosemary lives in Los Angeles, California, with her husband, Ronnie. Rosemary's childhood was unstable, and she suffered both verbal and physical abuse. When she was 8 years old, her aunt and uncle gave her a Bible tract, and she prayed to receive Jesus in her heart. However, her view of herself was damaged due to the abuse and rejection she experienced as a child. Even after she rededicated her life to God as an adult, her walk with God continued to be a sin-confess-sin-confess cycle, and she didn't understand God's love for her. Not until a couple of years ago when Rosemary was given The Bondage Breaker by Neil Anderson. After reading the book and working through The Steps to Freedom in Christ, Rosemary felt a huge weight lifted. She experienced freedom from tormenting thoughts, and a peace she'd never known. But what impacted her the most was understanding God as her Father and His great love for her. Today, she is overflowing with God's love and passionate about shining her Father's light wherever she goes. Today I'm talking with D. Neil Elliott, author of “A Higher Road: Cleanse Your Consciousness to Transcend the Ego and Ascend Spiritually.” Despite appearing outwardly successful, Neil had his own challenges behind the scenes that led him to discover a high road to transform his life. His entire life view changed and now he desires to help others empower, transform, and bring peace, love, and joy into their lives. Connecting Science and SpiritualityNeil read hundreds of books and attended countless self-help courses, never finding one that fulfilled his needs. As an engineer, spirituality and self-help books—while giving great processes—didn't give him the key he needed to bridge the gap between science and spirituality. Through a spiritual undertaking, Neil discovered the process necessary to understand the truth and connect to source. “When you change your beliefs, you change what you see,” Neil says. His understanding is that everything we see in the world is a reflection of our beliefs and that the electrical and magnetic impulses that make up our thoughts and feelings create a blueprint for the experiences we call into life. Starting the Spiritual JourneyNeil's book outlines the seven steps he took on his own spiritual journey: expand consciousness, unveil new truths, reflection, cleansing beliefs and thoughts, rebuilding consciousness, meditation, and repetition. The process explained in his book will take about a year and will radically transform your life, according to Neil. “Every thought you think creates a like event you manifest in your life,” Neil explains. Understanding this is one of the key tools for transforming your life. His understanding of how the universe came to be and its mechanics, the creation of experience in our life, and the science-based understanding of it are all things that Neil learned.Practicing Enlightenment Daily When striving for enlightenment, Neil first recommends meditation. He meditates first thing in the morning as part of his daily ritual when his brain isn't so busy with the external world. External factors often drive our thoughts and actions in life, but through meditation, you can learn to live ‘from the inside out'—allowing your inside voice to drive what you say and do. Neil spent years listening to audiobooks in order to train his brain to take in auditory information, which he says has allowed him to focus while meditating. Along with these practices, he recommends cutting out anything that doesn't align with the message of unconditional love, and not let fear motivate your journey to enlightenment. “No matter where you are, you can change your life,” he promises.Listen in to learn more about the role of Ego in enlightenment, Neil's golden aspirations, and the Great Awakening happening in our world today. Resources MentionedJoin Me on Speak Loud PlatformSpeak Loud Podcast on the webConnect with Neil on his websiteSpread the message of Speak Loudly Podcast and share this episode with a friend! Please review our podcast disclaimer on our website
