John Paterson had every reason to chase growth. The hype was real. The demand was there. But instead of opening more restaurants, he doubled down on one—and built a brand that runs deep instead of wide. Raised inside family-run restaurants in Alabama, John's path to ownership wasn't fast—but it was intentional. And at Frankie's in Nashville, that intention is baked into every decision: from the way they hire and train, to how they lead, serve, and scale. In this episode, we talk about the risks he refused to take, the systems he uses to keep team culture strong, and the belief that building something worth coming back to is more powerful than just being new. Is bigger always better? Not so fast. In this episode, I sit down with Jonathan Bennett—former hospital exec turned consultant and coach—to talk about what happens when growth leads to burnout, how boards can shift from control to connection, and why slowing down might be the smartest move your nonprofit ever makes. We explore strategy, leadership transitions, and the power of authentic relationships—in and out of the boardroom. Episode Highlights 02:16 Career Journey and Insights 07:04 Importance of Organizational Alignment 14:48 Governance and Relational Leadership 20:19 Indigenous Approaches to Meetings My guest for this episode is Jonathan Bennett. He left an executive role at a large hospital to strike out on his own, founding a management consulting firm. And, for 10 years, things were great. The company grew–became a B Corp and served hundreds of organizations. The problem was, he was unfulfilled. After a successful exit in which he went through a management buyout of his company, Jonathan founded his coaching practice so that he could fulfill his purpose to create an intimate space for leaders who need to be listened to deeply. Jonathan Bennett is an advisor and executive coach for founders, CEOs and C- Suite leaders who have a purpose in the world but need help solving their organization's toughest obstacles. Jonathan takes his experience as a CEO, board member, and founder to his coaching. As a feminist and social justice advocate, Jonathan brings a progressive approach to his work so that clients always find a way out of even the most complex challenges. He resides in Ontario, Canada with his family and two dogs. A published author, he's written seven literary books. How do leaders grow their business without losing touch with their team—or themselves? In this episode, we explore the quiet skills behind sustainable leadership. From slowing down to speeding up clarity, Adam Jackson and I talk about the mindset shifts leaders must make to stay grounded while everything else scales. Adam shares what he's learned from leading through hypergrowth—when your role changes every 3 months and everyone around you is stretched thin. We talk about the danger of clinging to what worked in the past, why feedback systems need to mature with your org, and how leaders must outgrow their own need for control. It's a candid look at what real leadership looks like when you're building fast—and trying to build well. Highlights: Why scaling fast can hide broken systems How leaders accidentally become bottlenecks The myth of “hiring your way out” of problems What emotional clarity looks like in practice Why slowing down is sometimes the fastest way forward Key Takeaways: Leadership is about subtraction, not just addition Systems that worked at 10 people won't work at 100 Good culture isn't what you say—it's what you allow Letting go of control is an act of trust, not failure Next Steps for You: Ask: Where am I holding on too tightly? Revisit your onboarding process—does it reflect your current size and pace? Write down what you're modeling without saying a word Connect with Adam Jackson here.

The Soft Life on a Hard Schedule: Slowing Down in a Fast-Paced WorldWhat if softness isn't about doing less… but about holding life differently? In this episode of Grow Your Life with Kim & Jackie, we unpack the myth that the “soft life” is only for the privileged — and show how softness is actually a nervous system state, not an aesthetic. We explore how choosing calm over chaos doesn't mean opting out of your life — it means shifting the way you move through it.It means regulating, slowing the internal pace, and allowing more ease in the middle of everything that's still hard, still full, still demanding. We're normalizing softness as something that's not only allowed, but necessary.Necessary for healing.Necessary for expansion.Necessary for receiving the miracles that are already meant for you.✨ You are not broken.✨ You are not behind.✨ You are a miracle — and you are meant for more than just surviving your life.

In this powerful episode, Michael sits down with Alan Fadling, author of An Unhurried Life: Following Jesus' Rhythms of Work and Rest. Alan reveals how a hurried life not only drains our energy but fuels the compulsions and false comforts that drive addiction. Together, Michael and Alan unpack how hurry acts as self-avoidance—and how slowing down to the pace of Jesus leads to healing, clarity, and deeper intimacy with God. If you're burned out, stuck in unwanted behaviors, or overwhelmed by life's demands, this conversation points to a better way: a life rooted in grace, rest, and authentic spiritual formation. In today's episode of Calmer in 5, we explore something deceptively simple, but deeply powerful—the act of slowing down to truly connect with others. It's easy to get swept up in the current of our own to-do lists, inner chatter, and distractions. But when we pause—even for a moment—we open the door to meaningful human connection. When we release our grip on self-absorption, we make space for love, presence, and shared understanding. It's not about grand gestures; it's about stopping long enough to truly see the person in front of us. In this episode, we'll talk about: Why fast living can rob us of genuine human moments How self-focus can block us from feeling connection and love A simple practice you can use today to shift into presence and engage more fully with others Whether it's with a friend, a stranger, or someone you see every day, today's episode is your reminder that calm deepens when we slow down and connect. In this summer edition of Rich Reflections, Rich invites you to pause, breathe, and recalibrate. Set against the peaceful rhythm of farm life, this episode explores how small moments—like walking up stairs or sipping coffee in Times Square—can carry profound meaning when we're present enough to notice them. From shifting our mindset from “work” to “play” to asking what we're saying yes to (and what we need to say no to), it's a gentle meditation on gratitude, freedom, and managing the weight we carry. With questions to spark reflection and stories that anchor big ideas in everyday life, this session encourages us to slow down, take stock, and live with more clarity and intention. Subscribe to the email newsletter for inspiration, self-development, & updates Questions from this session: 1. What're we grateful for? 2. What things or people can we say no to? 3. What's something big we can deconstruct? 4. What's something we refer to as work but could refer to as play? 5. What in life do we appreciate we're free to do? 6. Where's the last touristy place we've been? 7. Do we process and organize files and life consistently? A system? 8. What do we visualize as the best way to spend Fourth of July? 9. There are a lot of people that don't have the kind of talent that you do, Claude, or for that matter, I do and they have voices, but you can't hear them. So our job in the art world, I would say, is to amplify those voices in a way that's comprehensive and understandable by the folks who should be paying attention to what's going on around them and not talking at people. So my complaint these days at the art world is we're just talking at people, we're not listening to them. And if we did listen to them, you'll find that the world is actually quite a hopeful place.
