Another year, another tax season, holidays, birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, anniversaries, etc…these things constantly repeat themselves-things that we celebrate and remember for years; these are things that we never forget, but if we do, we are very disappointed in ourselves. The feeling of guilt and shame overtake us, and we scurry around frantically trying to make things right (missed a birthday, forgot a gift on Christmas, etc.) Or even if we remember we sometimes say, “I could have done that better…” “They deserve better,” “I could have planned better and not have waited until the last minute.” But do we ever worry about forgetting the purpose and call that God has for our lives? Do we ever worry about our prayer life becoming lackadaisical? Are we in a rush to serve the kingdom, are we just as persistent in making sure that we don't forget the calling and the commission that God laid out for us?

Yet they were getting at the truth that the bible reached a long time before Lennon and McCartney wrote that song. It all boils down to love. Love God and love each other. Jesus promised, “By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35. Yet in our increasingly divided world, what is most important often seems to be the most lacking. How well will we love as a nation-wide election is upon us? How distinct will our love be as our culture tries to force us to redefine it? Will people know we belong to Jesus by the way we love each other in our church? Come along with us as we sit at the feet of 1 Corinthians 13 and look closely at a diamond called Love with all its brilliant, flawless facets. “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.” -John 20:30–31 No one on earth had a more intimate relationship with Jesus than the Apostle John and through his gospel, we can know and draw nearer to the One Who loves us more than we could ever hope and imagine. John wrote his gospel with a clear purpose in mind: that we might believe that Jesus is the One Who can save us, and experience the fullness of the life He offers both here and for eternity. Come along with us as we learn how to have that life in the powerful name of Jesus.
