In this week's sermon, Pastor Nathan explains how the oil brought by the Israelites for the lamp stand symbolizes the personal responsibility Jesus highlights in the Parable of the Ten Virgins.
Today, Pastor Jack teaches that the Holy Spirit gives us discernment about what's going to happen in the future. True Christians sense the need to press on, but failing to endure to the end means they've run out of oil. The post Parable Of The Ten Virgins – 3B first appeared on Pastor Jack Hibbs.
On the Tuesday of the last week of Jesus' mortal life, He gave His last three parables. There seems to be a buzz about these parables today. Ambrosia Fox believes they are all about the temple. Today, Pastor Jack teaches that the Holy Spirit is displayed or symbolized in Scripture as anointing oil. What happens when we bury our talents instead of investing them? Are we like the wise virgins with oil in our lamps, or the foolish ones caught unprepared? This powerful episode examines Jesus's parables about readiness and stewardship that speak directly to our modern lives. The Parable of the Ten Virgins serves as a wake-up call for believers who've grown comfortable in their faith. Jesus warns us that we don't know the day or hour of his return – are we living with that urgency? When Christ appears, will we be among those ready to meet him, or scrambling to prepare at the last minute? The stakes couldn't be higher, with eternal consequences hanging in the balance.Similarly, the Parable of the Talents challenges us to honestly evaluate how we're using the gifts God has entrusted to us. Whether you've been given five talents or just one, the question remains: are you multiplying what you've been given for God's kingdom? Each of us will someday give account for how we've invested our abilities, resources, and opportunities. The faithful servants who doubled their master's investment heard "Well done," while the fearful servant who buried his talent faced judgment.Beyond these spiritual reflections, we explore a fascinating historical connection through Fisher Ames, who helped write the First Amendment yet believed "the Bible should be the principal text of our schools." This stark contrast with today's educational approach raises important questions about our national foundations. We also examine how America's founders warned against "imperceptible taxes" that gradually enslave populations – a warning that resonates powerfully in today's complex tax environment.Whether you're interested in spiritual growth, American history, or the connection between faith and freedom, this episode offers thought-provoking insights that will challenge and inspire you. Take a moment to consider: Are you ready for Christ's return, and how are you investing the talents he's given you?Support the showThe American Soul Podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1791934/subscribe

The Doctrine and Covenants is filled with directions to help us for the Lord's Second Coming. Twenty percent of the sections include some detail about the Second Coming or a call to assist the Lord in preparing for a Zion society. Two of these are sections 63 and 65, wherein the Lord references the parables of the Ten Virgins and the Marriage of the Bridegroom in conjunction with Jesus' Second Coming. Join Lynn Hilton Wilson as she explains the symbolism involved in these parables to facilitate a deeper understanding in the modern references. Are you prepared? What is one of the central pillars necessary for the return of the Savior? Find out in this episode.
1 Samuel - Saul among Prophets, Saul Publicly Chosen King, Saul Defeats the Ammonites Matthew - Parable of Ten Virgins, Parable of the Talents, The Judgment
What do you know about the kingdom of God? One interesting and exciting insight is that it was the central teaching of Jesus. “From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.'” Matthew 4:17. Despite the kingdom of heaven (or God) being so central, many Christians have no idea of its significance. In this new sermon series called The Shift, we are going to look at the gospel of Matthew, who focused more on this subject than any of the other gospel writers. We will discover that the Kingdom of God is at odds with our world, and one of power, beauty and radical worth, ruled by Jesus Christ the King of all kings. Yet living under the rule of a king, even if it is God, strikes against our instincts. After all, we are Americans, liberated from the English Monarchs. What freedom awaits the Christian who begins to shift their focus and allegiance to live for the kingdom that endures forever. We begin by looking at the birth of the King of this kingdom and learn to sit at His feet as His disciples. Follow us as we follow the disciple Matthew who shows us the majesty of King Jesus and the radical life of living in His kingdom!

On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/15/25), Hank continues to highlight the days of Holy Week. On Holy Tuesday, we commemorate the Parable of the Ten Virgins as found in Matthew chapter 25. In this parable—this extended simile with extraordinarily sharp teeth—the coming of Christ is likened to the coming of the bridegroom to the home of his bride during the sacramental ritual of marriage. In the narrative of the parable, there are ten virgins—five wise and five foolish. The five wise virgins are illustrative of those who practice almsgiving and mercy. The five foolish represent those who selfishly squander God's provisions upon themselves. In the end, the bridegroom arrives, and the five who were prepared went in with him to the eternal wedding banquet. And then, says Jesus, “the door was shut.” To the five foolish virgins who belatedly asked for the door to be opened, the bridegroom replied, “I tell you the truth, I don't know you.”Hank also answers the following questions:My son struggles with knowing that he's saved. He said that he's prayed and prayed, but doesn't feel like he hears from God. What can I say to him? Carol - Nashville, TN (15:53)I've had an anxiety disorder for many years, and nothing seems to be helping. I've read that micro-dosing LSD is supposed to help, but it's not legal. Would this be biblical? Jodi - Snohomish, WA (22:15)
Lesson 8 - Stories About Waiting … Understanding God's PromiseJesus told two final parables in the days before His death on Calvary — the Parable of the Tenants and the Parable of the Ten Virgins. He warned the religious leaders about what happened to the workers who rejected and ultimately killed their master's son. And He warned His disciples about what was going to happen to Him and how they needed to live until they saw Him again. They were strong words for days when strength was going to be needed. Up To Jerusalem - Teaching 9 Scripture - Matthew 25-26, Luke 22 We continue with Jesus' Mt. Olivet Discourse where He is talking about the future end of Jerusalem that did happen in 70AD several decades after His ascension and as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophets. Jesus is also talking of the preparation for His second coming and the importance of being awake. Pastor reviews the conclusion of the Parable of the Ten Virgins with Jesus' words,”Therefore keep watch because you do not know the day or the hour.” We want to be awakened ⁃ Awake to the things of God ⁃ Awake to what He desires of us ⁃ Awake to our mission to lead others to a knowledge of the Savior and to usher in the Kingdom of God Additional parables covered ⁃ The Parable of the Talents - It is possible to know about the Master without truly knowing Him and living in relationship with Him. We are to use all He has given us to His glory so that others know and learn the Good News of our Savior. We are called to serve, love and honor God. ⁃ The Parable of the Sheep and the Goats - Pastor helps us understand this parable in a first century Jewish context. This story is incredibly profound and Pastor shares a personal testimony around the subject of sheep and goats and the question: “Do goats hear the shepherd's voice?” Pastor shares the differences between sheep and goats. In Jerusalem these two animals are in the same flock but they are very different. ⁃ Identity: 54 chromosomes vs. 60 chromosomes ⁃ Diet: tender grass vs. garbage ⁃ Intelligence: great ability to learn and understand and created to thrive under a shepherd vs. independent ⁃ Offspring: keep lambs near by vs. send their offspring out on their own ⁃ Social structures: no competition, need a shepherd to lead them vs. butt heads, desire to dominate ⁃ Shepherd: only thrive under a good shepherd vs. fiercely independent This parable shows us that it is possible to be a member of the flock but not be one of The Shepherd's sheep. Jesus is the Good Shepherd and it's important to follow Him. This parable goes on to talk about when “The King” comes and how He will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. Sheep on His right to eternal life and goats on the left to eternal punishment. This parable is about being a new creation in Christ, a follower, one of His sheep that hears His voice. Goats have not become new in Christ and want be in control. We are NOT saved by works - we are saved by the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for His sheep. As we continue, we move into Matthew 26 where Jesus tells His disciples, again, of His impending crucifixion. We see Judas going to the chief priests as he prepares to betray Jesus as told in both Matthew 26 and Luke 22. From there we see Jesus send two of His disciples (Peter and John) to begin preparations for the Passover meal which includes finding a place for their meal together and also going to the temple for the lamb for the meal. Pastor points out several examples of Jesus being in control of the details leading up to His arrest and that it is not the enemy who is control. Jesus is in charge! He is the Lord! And this is something we each need to realize - we are not in charge of our destinies, we do not make the rules, when we try - then we are like goats. But when we listen to Jesus, the Good Shepherd, we are His precious sheep and He desires to be both Lord and Savior in our lives. Even through Judas is “making plans” Jesus is still in control and He will not allow the enemy to divert Him from the Father's purpose. Pastor goes on to share unique details about the Passover lambs at the temple and our Passover Lamb, Jesus. The parable of the Ten Virgins, or bridesmaids, is a call to being vigilant and being spiritually prepared. Jesus tells a story of bridesmaids waiting for the bridegroom to arrive, yet only half of the bridesmaids are truly ready when the moment comes. This parable reminds us that the return of Christ will come unexpectedly as well, and we must live each day with our hearts prepared and our lamps shining brightly.
This may be one of the most unsettling parables that Jesus ever told. May we examine ourselves rightly and not be deceived about our own salvation. You can watch this message here.

Are we truly ready for Christ's return? This message challenges us to examine our spiritual preparedness through the lens of the Parable of the Ten Virgins. Jesus teaches that the kingdom of heaven is like ten virgins awaiting the bridegroom - five wise and five foolish. The key difference? The wise brought extra oil for their lamps. This oil symbolizes our personal relationship with Jesus - something that can't be borrowed or faked. We're reminded that good intentions aren't enough; we need a faith that endures delays and stays alert. The closed door in the parable serves as a sobering reminder that there will be a time when it's too late to enter God's kingdom. Let's ask ourselves: Do we truly know Jesus, and does He know us? Matthew 25:1–13 The Parable of the Ten Virgins [1] “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. [2] Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. [3] For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, [4] but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. [5] As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. [6] But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' [7] Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. [8] And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' [9] But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.' [10] And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. [11] Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.' [12] But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.' [13] Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. (ESV)

Spencer Davis | Fall RetreatDuring this session, Spencer explores 2 parables from Matthew 25 that teach us how to live while waiting for the return of Jesus. First, the Parable of the Ten Virgins reminds us that Jesus is coming back when we least expect it. We can't borrow someone else's faith — we need to be personally prepared. The Parable of the Talents shows us that God has given us gifts to use for His Kingdom, and we're called to faithfully invest them while we wait for Him to return. We need to be ready, stay faithful to what we have been given, and work while we wait. God has entrusted us with His Word and empowered us to obey. The Lord is coming back and we should strive to hear “Well done good and faithful servant.”Matthew 25Please leave a review on Apple or Spotify to help others grow in their faith. Pastor Josh concludes our midweek series on the parables by looking at Matthew 25 and the story of the wise and foolish virgins. We must guard the oil in our lives and be ready for when Jesus returns.
Pastor Gowens' sermon from October 6, 2024 is message #8 in the Kingdom Parables series. In this message he focuses on the Parable of the Ten Virgins in Matthew 25:1-13. The lesson taught in this parable is, namely, kingdom living means living in anticipation of the Redeemer's return. Brother Gowens insists that eschatology matters right now.
In this episode, John and Victor dive into the importance of taking action in your life and not procrastinating when you hear God's call. We discuss how easy it is to say "someday, Lord" but remind ourselves that tomorrow isn't promised—action is required today. We also share personal stories, insights from scripture, and examples of how to overcome fear, hesitation, and the urge to put things off, whether it's battling addiction, making life changes, or answering God's call to serve.
