He was eventually traded to the Wizards in the latter half of his rookie year, but went on to have a successful career in the NBA.     Tim Donaghy, who currently owns and operates refpicks.com , joined the Forgotten Maverick podcast and discussed a variety of topics including why he became an official, learning about the powerful dynamics of relationships between officials and players on the court, being a referee during the Pacers / Pistons brawl in November of 2004, and even shared his own thoughts on the controversial 2006 NBA finals between the Mavericks and the Heat.   For a few minutes of our talk, Tim shared his beliefs that the Mavericks were essentially "screwed" out of a championship due to the NBA's desire to manipulate the series and extend it's length.  By sending star guard Dwyane Wade to a 4 game parade at the free throw line, Tim believes Dallas was put a massive disadvantage as Wade attempted 73 free throws over the series' final 4 games.  In games 3, 5, and 6, the Mavericks lost by a combined 6 points.  In addition to Tim's belief that the NBA wanted to extend the series, he also shares his thoughts on how the NBA's officiating leadership had it's own agenda due to their hatred of Mark Cuban.

During the summer of 2004, Ray made the Mavs' NBA Summer League Roster despite only having played in two college basketball games during his career at the University of Alabama. During his summer league experience Ray played with Josh Howard, Marquis Daniels, Devin Harris and against Yao Ming and former Maverick Wang Zhizhi. Before having a chance to make the Mavs NBA regular season roster, Ray's NBA dreams were dealt a blow when he was diagnosed with Leukemia and had to be put in a medically induced coma. From how he got started, being a rookie in Dallas and adjusting to a new city and culture, the memorable March 1998 game in Dallas against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, spending the 1998 NBA lockout working out with a young Steve Nash, his impressions of a young German rookie named Dirk Nowitzki in 1999, playing for the post Jordan Bulls, and more. A podcast for Mavs fans where I interview former Mavericks players about their basketball career and time with the Mavs. On this episode I caught up with Moe Ager, a 2006 first round draft pick of the Mavericks. Moe and I discussed his playing days at Michigan State, getting drafted to the Mavericks, facing the warriors in the 2007 playoffs, getting traded to New Jersey, playing overseas, his time with Timberwolves, and his successful music career. I had a great time talking with Moe and look forward to doing more interviews with other former Mavs soon.
