We talk about why the Mavs should offer Quentin Grimes a contract extension even before he plays a game for the Mavs. Finally, we close with some discussion about the upcoming run at the Las Vegas Summer League for the Mavericks.

BadgerBlitz.com's podcast returns early this week to chat about the postgame skirmish between the Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan Wolverines from various angles. That, and you know, actually discuss the win over Juwan Howard's program thanks to a huge second half surge. We then talk about the jersey retirement ceremony for Michael Finley and his legacy in Madison. Here's the full breakdown below: What transpired in the final minute of the game with Gard putting in reserves that included some walk-ons, the "press' or "pressure" from Howard and Michigan, and "THE" timeout What transpired in the handshake line from initial harsh words to Howard hitting Krabbenhoft and players' involvement thereafter What's next in terms of punishments, and who actually should serve them After that, we discuss the actual game -- one where Johnny Davis asserted himself once again in the second half. Plus, we talk about the impact of Finley and the Wisconsin teams of that era Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It's a story similar to David and Goliath. A small budget movie about faith and forgiveness goes up against the big bad Hollywood to prove it's worth. Nobody imagined I Can Only Imagine would beat out big budget box office films and open in the number 3 spot in the country. But the films' producers say they not only imagined it, they prayed for it too. I sat down with Kevin Downes, an actor-turned-producer, who told me he and his collaborators had a plan from the beginning. They wanted to tell the story of Bart Millard, the lead singer of a Christian band called Mercy Me. Growing up in Greenville, Texas, Bart Millard suffered physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his father, Arthur. When Arthur becomes terminally ill, he finds redemption by embracing his faith and rediscovering his love for his son. Years later, Bart's troubled childhood and mended relationship with his dad inspires him to write the hit song "I Can Only Imagine" as singer of the Christian band Mercy Me. The movie was directed by the Erwin brothers, Andrew and Jon Erwin and stars Dennis Quaid, Cloris Leachman, Trace Adkins and Broadway star J. Michael Finley as Bart. In August 2017 Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions signed on as distributors giving the film a nationwide release. But Downes tells me they began marketing the film, which shot mostly in Oklahoma, months before it was released. It helped that I Can Only Imagine was already a hit on the Christian music charts and the band was performing in on tour while promoting the film. More importantly, he says this movie strikes a chord with people in the "flyover states" who feel left out of the Hollywood conversation. He says they are craving content that appeals to them and their values as much as a Marvel fan craves the next Avengers. And the proof is in the box office numbers. So far, I Can Only Imagine has made $75 million dollars and was made for only $7 million making it the highest grossing film ever for Roadside Attractions. Talk about a return on your investment! Downes tells me they knew all along something Hollywood didn't know: David always wins. To listen to the full interview make sure you subscribe to my show on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts.
Earlier in the week I invited my daughter Amelia to be my guest host for our talk with Jon Erwin about his new film I Can Only Imagine. Head to your local theatre this weekend and show your support. About the Film: It's the song that brings ultimate hope to so many … often in the midst of life's most challenging moments. Amazingly, the song was written in mere minutes by MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard. In reality, those lyrics took a lifetime to craft. Although he found faith at a young age, life wasn't easy for Bart. He leaned into an active imagination and his love of music as escapes from a troubled home life. As he grew older, Bart turned to football in hopes of somehow connecting with his abusive father. But a career-ending injury—combined with the vision of a teacher who saw unlimited potential—set Bart on a musical pathway. Chasing a dream while running from broken relationships with his father and Shannon, his childhood sweetheart, Bart hits the road in an old, decrepit tour bus with his new band MercyMe—named for his grandmother's favorite expression. With the guidance of a grizzled music-industry insider, the band begins a journey none of them could ever have imagined. Directed by the Erwin Brothers (October Baby, Moms' Night Out, and Woodlawn), I CAN ONLY IMAGINE stars J. Michael Finley, Madeline Carroll, Trace Adkins, Priscilla Shirer, with Cloris Leachman and Dennis Quaid. A gripping reminder of the power of forgiveness, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE beautifully illustrates that no one is ever too far from God's love—or from an eternal home in Heaven. About the Erwin Brothers: JON and ANDY ERWIN are a directing team that focuses on creating faith-based and inspirational feature films. The duo began their career as teenagers, working as camera operators for ESPN in their hometown of Birmingham, AL. They soon embarked on full time careers as sports cameramen covering University of Alabama games all over the country. The brothers had the opportunity to work with ESPN College Football Primetime, FOX NFL, and the NBA covering events like the XGames and the Superbowl. In 2002, the Erwin Brothers started their own production company. They ventured into creating commercials, documentaries and music videos. They found their greatest success in the world of music. Soon they were directing music videos and producing concerts and television programs for platinum artists like Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Casting Crowns, Switchfoot, Skillet, and others. The brothers received 11 nominations and were honored with wins for Music Video of the Year at the GMA Dove Awards for three consecutive years. In 2010 the Erwin Brothers shifted their focus and began exclusively developing dramatic feature films including OCTOBER BABY, MOMS' NIGHT OUT, and WOODLAWN. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE is the brothers' fourth feature film, and is based on MercyMe's #1 hit song of the same title. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. Thanks Rick!
