Send us Fan MailYour kids will teach you leadership faster than any book, if you let them. I sit down with Tom Mitchell, a coach, author, and performance psychologist who has spent decades helping athletes and leaders master the inner game, and we keep the spotlight where it belongs: on Tom as a husband and dad. We start with gratitude and what “success” looks like at home, from healthy adult children to the simple joy of being present for recovery, routines, and the moments you never want to take for granted. Tom takes us back to the beginning, including an Oktoberfest story that is equal parts hilarious and honest, and then into the day-to-day choices that helped his two daughters grow into professional performers. We talk parenting values, discipline, and boundaries that protect confidence: limiting negative media, building structure around training, and showing up for the early mornings and long seasons. Along the way, Tom's childhood stories about loyalty, work ethic, and a family that traveled any distance to support a game add depth to what it means to lead with steadiness. The conversation turns into a powerful sports psychology and mindset coaching lesson when Tom shares how his father's heart attack pushed him into depression and a lifelong search for meaning. That journey shaped his work in leadership development and his latest book, Embrace Your Inner Coach, a message that lands for dads, even if it was not written only for dads: stop outsourcing your strength, trust your inner voice, and pay attention to what your kids reveal about you. You can also check other books that Tom wrote with famous pro athletes, Chris Mullin and Joe Montana! If you're into fatherhood, parenting, leadership, resilience, and the mental side of performance, this one sticks. Subscribe, share this with a dad who's trying to lead well, and leave a review with the value you most want to pass on to your kids.Support the showPlease don't forget to leave us a review wherever you consume your podcasts! Please help us get more dads to listen weekly and become the ultimate leader of their homes!

Steiny & Guru discuss Victor Wembanyama and Chris Mullin's compliments about being on track to... being the best player ever?!
We talk about the impact of the Epstein files on U.K. politics which Anders uses as an excuse to dive into "A Very British Coup", the 1982 Chris Mullin novel and 1988 BBC miniseries about the U.K. electing a Socialist Prime Minister, who the transatlantic deep state then tries to overthrow. As revelations since the 80's have proven "A Very British Coup" was even more prescient than its author thought. Check out the full episode on our bonus feed at Patreon.com/poddamnamerica

In a wide-ranging, high-octane interview, Hall of Famer Rick Pitino joins Brandon Tierney to discuss the state of St. John's basketball and his storied career. Pitino gets brutally honest about his current squad, admitting they lack the veteran dominance of last year's team and issuing a public challenge to Bryce Hopkins to become an "alpha dog" or risk his NBA dreams. The conversation turns fiery and nostalgic as Pitino recounts a "hysterical" story from the birth of WFAN, remembering how "clinical moron" callers wanted him fired while his Knicks were in first place. The Coach also settles New York's greatest debates, naming Pearl Washington and Kenny Anderson as the ultimate handles and Chris Mullin as the city's premier marksman. To wrap it up, BT shares a legendary personal story of an all-night bar session with Pitino that felt like a scene straight out of The Godfather.
NBA Hall of Famer Tim Hardaway is considered one of the best point guards of his generation. On this episode we discuss Tim's new book, Killer Crossover with him and his co-author Jake Uitti. We delve into Hardaway's ascent from a challenging upbringing in Chicago to becoming one of the premier point guards of his era. The narrative unfolds to reveal not only his personal triumphs but also the profound sense of camaraderie and teamwork that characterized his time with legendary teammates like Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin. Emphasizing the significance of persistence, Hardaway articulates the invaluable lessons gleaned from both his trials and his successes on the court. Ultimately, this episode serves as an exploration of Hardaway's legacy, illustrating how his experiences have shaped both his professional career and his role as the father of current NBA player, Tim Hardaway, Jr.In Killer Crossover, Hardaway shares stories from his tough upbringing in Chicago through his collegiate career and to the NBA. As a part of "Run TMC" (with fellow Warriors Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin), he immediately established himself as one of the top players in the league. Joining the Miami Heat in 1996, and along with teammates Alonzo Mourning, Dan Majerle, and Jamal Mashburn (to name a few), he would become a main protagonist in one of the most contentious rivalries in all of basketball with the New York Knicks. Killer Crossover is the story of a man who worked his way from humble beginnings to becoming an All-Star at the highest level—not to mention a father to a future NBA standout—as well as all the trials and tribulations that come along with being one of the best in the game.Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @hoopheadspod for the latest updates on episodes, guests, and events from the Hoop Heads Pod.Make sure you're subscribed to the Hoop Heads Pod on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts and while you're there please leave us a 5 star rating and review. When Keir Starmer brought Labour back to government last year with a majority of 174, many talked about two or even three terms in power. But over fourteen months the Prime Minister has run into numerous problems, losing both Angela Rayner as deputy PM and Peter Mandelson as US ambassador (to different scandals), and facing formidable opposition from Nigel Farage's Reform party riding high on the issue of immigration control. In this first episode of a new strand in the LRB Podcast, host James Butler talks to former Labour MP and minister Chris Mullin, columnist Andy Beckett and journalist Morgan Jones about whether Labour can recover from critical mistakes over tax, why they're failing to communicate their achievements, and who they should really be trying to represent.
