Sword is a Canadian heavy metal band from Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec, that was formed in 1981 and is still active to this day. To date, they have released three studio albums, one compilation and one live albumIn 1981, Rick (vocals) and Dan Hughes (drums) formed the band and they were joined by guitarist Mike Plant and bassist Mike Larocque in the first lineup of the band. They signed their first recording contract in 1984 with Aquarius Records and released two albums for the label in the late 1980s; the debut album Metalized in 1986 and its follow-up Sweet Dreams in 1988.They toured in the support slots for Motörhead and Alice Cooper, and the group also opened for Metallica on their Master of Puppets tour in 1986.Rick Hughes also went on to form Saints & Sinners and released a self-titled album with them in 1992, which is still revered by many hard rock fans worldwide.Throughout their career, Sword sold in excess of 180,000 albums and the band has been more active since 2011 when they reunited for a show and they have since played various festivals in Canada and Germany. In 2016, they released Live Hammersmith, recorded while they were on tour supporting Motörhead in 1987.Sword's third studio album (their first in 34 years!) titled III was released on November 25, 2022. Happy Thanksgiving Metal heads! Here is a pre Gobble day listen for your steamy little ears. The return of SWORD! Formed in 1980 in Montreal, SWORD released their debut album Metalized in 1986 which was described as; Aggressive, Melodic, Loud and Rude. They were hand-picked by Metallica to open the Quebec leg of the Master of puppets tour, Alice Cooper's Canadian Return of the nightmare tour and then crisscrossed the UK with the Mighty Lemmy on Motorhead's Rock'n'Roll tour. It was followed by the Heavy but diverse Sweet Dreams in 1988. After a short US tour promoting the album, they started work on their 3rd album. All hell broke loose and a parting of ways ensued… Until 2011, when they reunited for a few select shows in Canada and Germany and found the urge to go back in the studio to finish where they had left off. Fall off 2022 finds the Legendary Canadian metal band releasing their long-awaited third album, appropriately titled III, on November 25th, 2022 via Massacre Records. It will be the band's first studio album in 34 years. I catch up with vocalist Rick Hughes and guitarist Mike Plant to get the back story of the 30 plus year gap between albums, How the new CD came about and my take on the new songs. We take a walk down heavy metal memory lane, discuss how they were ended up supporting Metallica in 1986 as well as other cool metal confessions.
