Stage 3 of Sahara Gravel in Morocco was harder than pretty much anyone was anticipating. Despite seeming to have hardly any climbing, it proved to be the toughest day yet and the first stage that took the riders deep into the Sahara Desert. Payson sat down with British rider Maddy Nutt, who has been battling for first place with Luise Valentin since day one. She talks about getting caught in the sand, how this race stacks up with Migration Gravel, and why she avoids events with a certain type of professional rider. Then, we get an Adventure Stache first: five interview subjects in one conversation. The self-titled Girl Group consists of five friends from around Europe and the UK — Laura, Sam, Sophie, Josie, and Claire, who are taking the race at their own pace and enjoying the heck out of it. They talk about how they met each other and started doing events as a group, and their highlights and lowlights of the race so far.Instagram: @theadventurestacheYouTube: Payson McElveen

Liz and Ben are joined by guest Dr Tansy Rayner Roberts PhD (Classics) to chat about fashion, faith, food...oh, and football. Yes, join us for an episode that goes well into extra time (i.e. it's over 3 hours long) as we discuss Terry Pratchett's 37th Discworld novel, Unseen Academicals. The Wizards of Unseen University are still recovering from the Dean's defection to become Archchancellor of rival Brazeneck College, but they have a bigger problem: if they don't field a foot-the-ball team, they'll lose the bequest that supplies most of their dinners. But the sport has become lawless and violent - a game of the streets in which matches last long into the night and players die. And then there's the fans... But something's in the air. The game's about to change, and at the centre of it are an unlikely quartet of junior University staff: Glenda the sensible baker; beautiful and fashion-conscious Juliet; Trev, son of the game's greatest player; and Mr Nutt, a goblin who's good at everything - except explaining who and what he is... The last of the Discworld books to “star” the wizards, and the longest in the series by a fair margin, Unseen Academicals repeatedly says that it isn't really about football. And, indeed, there's a lot else going on: new ways for both dwarfs and trolls to express their femininity; the internal voices which hold us back from reaching our potential; the struggle between progress and fairness, of power and the people. And at the heart of it, four brand new characters who represent a side of Ankh-Morpork we don't usually see in our protagonists: the regular people, caught up in the Shove. What did you think of Unseen Academicals? Does it have enough football in it, or too much? What are your favourite takes on orcs? What other sports would you like to see come to the Discworld? And do you know where we can get a megapode? Shout out from the Shove using the hashtag #Pratchat83! Guest Dr Tansy Rayner Roberts PhD (Classics) (she/her) is a Tasmanian author of sci-fi, fantasy and cosy crime. Her essay series Pratchett's Women was collected into a book, and her follow up series on Pratchett's men can be found at the online magazine Speculative Insight. Tansy recently reprinted her “Teacup Magic” series of cosy mysteries, and her newest novel is the time travel comedy Time of the Cat. You can find Tansy online at tansyrr.com and as @tansyrr on social media; you'll also find her in our previous live episodes: “A Troll New World” (from Nullus Anxietas 7 in 2019) and “Unalive from Überwald” (from Nullus Anxietas IX in 2024). You can find episode notes and errata on our web site. Next month we're looking at a stack of Discworld ephemera - namely both volumes of the Ankh-Morpork Archives, which collect material from the Discworld diaries, and their sibling publication The Discworld Almanack! If you've read any of those, please send us your questions via email (chat@pratchatpodcast.com), or social media. Use the hashtag #Pratchat84.

Welcome to Mysteries to Die For.I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you in the heart of a mystery. All stories are structured to challenge you to beat the detective to the solution. These are arrangements, which means instead of word-for-word readings, you get a performance meant to be heard. Jack and I perform these live, front to back, no breaks, no fakes, no retakes. This is Season 7, Games People Play. Games are about competition conducted according to rules with participants working toward a goal. Games are a part of every culture and are one of the oldest forms of social interaction and engagement. Games can be fun, challenging and exhilarating. They can also be intense, cutthroat, and lethal. This season, our authors have fashioned deadly games and unscrupulous villains to test your detection skills. This is Episode 21, Sorry is the featured game. This is Death by Candy Land by Kyra JacobsDELIBERATIONCandy Land is in chaos and Sheriff Cantalone has to figure out who gummed up this Halloween party by killing Harry Randall. Here are the players in the order we met them:• Mic Garcia, host and Lord Licorice who was being blackmailed by Harry• Savannah Livingston, the Lollipop Fairy who Harry flashed earlier that day• Tyler Livingston, the Peppermint Forest lumberjack who owned the hardware story Harry vandalized• Cindy Flannigan, Mrs. Nutt whose garden Harry trampled nightly• Sam Flannigan, dressed as a giant peanut whose fence Harry destroyed• The three Flannigan children, M&Ms who were mad Harry ruined the bounce house• Doc Hallers, King Kandy who Harry blamed for his mother's death• Herb Smathers, Gloppy the Chocolate Blob who Harry repeatedly belittledHere's what we know:• Harry was the neighborhood bully. Everyone except Mic had lodged complaints with the sheriff and complained that nothing was done.• Mic welcomed his guests into the back yard but said he did not see Harry until he was dead.• Tyler Livingston had met Harry at the decorated fence and told him to come in through the house. Savannah Livingston saw Harry in the kitchen, staring out the window. Doc Haller saw Harry take a pill and wash it down with liquor.• Harry spilled Herb's heart pills across the floor. Herb couldn't be sure they all were found.• The Livingston children said Harry banged on the outside of the bounce house, then crawled inside and refused to move.• Harry had cuts and scratches on his arms and his lips were tinted blue. ME speculated the blue may have come from an overdose. No explanation was given on the cuts and scratches.• Cindy Flannigan's rake had red orange stains she said was from mulch. No damage or marks were noted on the other props.• No one had any knowledge of illegal drugs. Mic said Harry kept to liquor and cigarettes. It's your move, where should Sheriff Cantalone go?ABOUT Candy LandPolio was an ancient disease that hit pandemic status in the 1940s and 1950s, crippling children and young adults until a vaccine was widely administered in 1955. Children recovering were bed bound and board. Teacher Eleanor Abbott, herself a victim of the disease, invented games to entertain recovering children, including Candy Land. Encouraged by friends, Abbott submitted her idea to Milton Bradley, who picked it up to fill-in their product line. It soon became their best selling game. In 2005, Candy Land was inducted into The Strong National Museum of Play. Candy Land has continued to grow and develop, offering game variations including special character editions and electronic editions so you can get your candy on no matter where you are.
