I may be a day late with the record of this week's podcast, but none of us should be surprised with a name like Better Lait Than Never. On this week's podcast, we're discussing Leon Draisaitl's 50-goal watch, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' heater, line combinations, and more.To kick off this week's podcast, I started with a quick recap of my trip to Toronto from last week, how nice it was to visit that city, and how much I love leaving. There's just something about having a 30-minute cab ride to go four km that bothers me, you know? It's not like we were trying to move around in rush hour — a whole other problem entirely — but instead just trying to get to work quickly without walking everywhere. I also touched on how happy I am that my beloved Vikings won't be touching Aaron Rogers... at least for now.Getting back to the Oilers, I started with a recap of Tuesday's game against the Utah Hockey Club after we got some last-minute tickets and wandered in after the first few minutes. Not only did the Oilers need to blow a team out like that, but it was nice to have a stress-free night at the rink where the outcome was never in question. When was the last time you could say that? Not to mention, being at Rogers Place for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' second straight three-point game was the cherry on top. Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about using your speakerphone in public before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails that were as entertaining as they were all over the map. The inbox was so funny again this week, and I got plenty of laughs from your ideas, feedback, and voicemails. As always, I sat back and laughed while listening to everything on your mind over the last seven days.

In this episode, Adam Coster, CEO of Butterscotch Shenanigans, shares his unique journey of joining and growing the indie studio with his brothers Sam and Seth. Adam discusses their beginnings in 2012, the steep challenges they faced, and how a personal family crisis redefined their mission to bring joy through games. He then shares insights into their different projects, including the highly anticipated sequel Crashlands 2, set for release in April. Balancing roles at the studio, the evolving game industry, and the impact of subscription services, Adam offers a candid look at the realities of indie game development. He also provides useful, actionable advice for aspiring game developers and discusses the potential and limitations of incorporating AI into game dev. Join us as we explore the fascinating intersection of science, family, and grassroots game development to share joy. Bio: Adam Coster's love for science carried him through a PhD in Cellular & Molecular Biology. Turns out it wasn't science he was into, but solving hard problems in general. Building a company from scratch in the highly-competitive and rapidly-changing games industry certainly fit that bill, and so Adam joined the team immediately after defending his dissertation. Adam creates all of the web technology that powers Butterscotch Shenanigan's games and studio, crunches numbers to figure out how the industry works, leads our business development efforts, and makes sure that the team has what it needs to make great games. Text us and say hello! We hit Episode 10! In this episode of "Backwards Compatible: A Generation 'S' Podcast," Lou and I heat up the arcade sports scene with "NBA Jam" and its successor, "NBA Jam - Tournament Edition," primarily focusing on the Sega Genesis versions while touching on differences across other consoles. We dive into the pivotal updates and key differences introduced in the Tournament Edition, such as additional players and enhanced gameplay features, which solidified its status as an arcade legend."NBA Jam" broke ground by bridging the gap between casual sports fans who were hardcore gamers and casual gamers who were hardcore sports fans, particularly during an era when NBA popularity was soaring with the Chicago Bulls' dominance. Despite its massive success, the absence of prominent players like Michael Jordan and Shaq due to licensing restrictions remains a notable aspect of its history. We share listener memories that highlight the game's impact, discuss other Midway sports titles with a similar vibe, and suggest modern games that recapture the "NBA Jam" spirit. As always, we wrap up with a nod to the pop culture landscape of March 1994, setting the stage for when "NBA Jam" was setting arcades and consoles on fire. Join us as we celebrate the 10th episode with one of the most exhilarating sports games of all time.Support the Show. We've got merch!Check out the site for some awesome Gen 'S' swag :)

Which basketball games are the easiest and hardest to put up stats in? This week, we join the community in discussing the titles that stick out in our minds, and the statistics that either eluded us or piled up way too easily. We also recap a session with Virtua NBA, provide an update on our journey in the original NBA Jam, pick our ideal games for an annual tournament, and reflect on how it feels to shelve a beloved favourite. The host's of CSN The Network Podcast return this week to discuss the NBA play-in tournament and the NBA playoffs. The host's start the show by posing the question regarding the Golden State Warriors as a potential end of an era may be coming. The host's then discuss the Lakers and they previewed the matchup that will take place in round 1 of the playoffs between them and the Denver Nuggets. We also discussed and previewed who we thought would be the winners of the first game of the series as the NBA playoffs start this weekend. The host's then discuss the 6th man of the year, defensive player of the year, clutch player of the year, and most improved player. The host's also discussed the USA Basketball roster for the Olympics, as it was released this week, they discussed who would be the starting 5 and who else could have possibly made the team. The host's then transitioned to discuss the WNBA and the boxing match this upcoming weekend. As always we appreciate the support, please continue to like, subscribe, share and view the content.
After feeling inspired to revisit the Super Nintendo version of the original NBA Jam, we were reminded of how fun it still is...and also, just how unfair it can be! A couple of interesting ratings likewise stood out, leading us to dive into some statistics from 1993. We also join the community in discussing which ideas we'd take from other sports games to improve future NBA 2K releases (and potentially, a new NBA Live as well). We talk beefs (beeves?), dig into Internet drama, and have fun. The NBA is now a 365-day league and it's never been more present in pop culture. From Kevin Durant's burner accounts to LeBron taking his talents anywhere to trusting the Process, the NBA is becoming a pop culture requirement. At the same time, sports can have gatekeepers that make it insular and frustrating for people who aren't die hard fans. What do "The Quick and the Dead" and NBA Jam have in common? Is loose clothing appropriate for quick-draw competitions? How many flashbacks is too many? Commissioner Edwin instructed the Shat Crew to drink a few beers and have fun with this episode, and we were happy to oblige. Technically, Big D drank decaf coffee, but Gene made up for it with a few Red Trolleys. Along the way, Dick Ebert offered explosives advice and narrated "The Quick and the Dead" camera movement. Gene noted moments where he could feel Joss Whedon's influence, and both hosts agreed its pretty cool to see a kid shoot her dad in the face. For those listeners deeply invested in our chronic discussion of Gene Hackman vs Kevin Spacey, this episode settles the matter once-and-for-all while tipping a hat to Sam Raimi's unmistakable style.
