Apologies for the delay in getting this one published... Had some technical difficulties, but we got those sorted. The Kraken released their third jerseys this week, but the guys recorded before that happened. So they *also* recorded a reaction to those on Thursday and spliced that into the episode. It creates for some fun time-warping shenanigans. Also in this episode, a big prospect discussion in advance of Kraken Rookie Camp, plus too much CBA talk, Weekly One-Timers, and What's Good? Today's SWAPA Number is 14. That's the number of articles in the SWAPA constitution, all of which will have proposed changes as part of a constitution modernization effort, appearing on the ballot in the fall general election. So today we're sitting down with Baltimore Chair, Mike Santoro, and Phoenix Chair, Kevin Reese, to go over the proposed changes to the SWAPA constitution that the membership will vote on in this fall's general election. While a CBA is the governing document that most of our pilots are familiar with, the constitution carries just as much importance with how SWAPA conducts its business. This is an important vote for the future, so let's explain what the proposed changes are and why.If you have any feedback for us at all, please drop us a line at comm@swapa.org or tap here to send us a text.Follow us online:Twitter - https://twitter.com/swapapilotsFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/swapa737

Sarah Lalor, General Manager ESG and Sustainable Finance at Commonwealth Bank Australia (CBA) explains the bank’s multi-pronged approach to supporting businesses at every stage of their sustainability journeys. It’s a wonderful case study of how one organisation can multiply its ESG impact by influencing the organisations it supports. In conversation with Ashurst’s Elena Lambros, Sarah takes us on a whistle-stop tour of CBA’s strategy to assist businesses of all sizes. They discuss how SMEs and mid-market businesses are shifting from what Sarah describes as a “curiosity mindset” to an “action mindset”. This is being driven through a combination of: Savings including lower energy bills Enablers such as CBA’s asset finance for energy-efficient equipment, solar and EVs for businesses of all sizes, Green Loans and Sustainability-Linked Loans for larger businesses Expectations from investors, and procurement requirements from larger businesses that are subject to new mandatory climate-related disclosures. While acknowledging the challenge for small businesses to devote time to ESG strategy, Sarah emphasises the proven commercial rewards of doing so. She also explains how Sustainability-Linked Loans work and she illustrates the value of the ‘S’ in ESG (e.g. social outcomes such as employee wellbeing). Sarah and Elena highlight some industries that are embracing sustainable finance, such as hospitality, retirement living and aged care, and commercial property. And they welcome the sustainable finance taxonomy which promises to bring greater consistency and confidence in the market. They also emphasise the commercial benefits for small businesses that don’t wait, but instead seize the initiative. As Sarah points out, SMEs that go beyond compliance and really embrace ESG now can access new markets, win more contracts and tenders, and be more attractive propositions for customers and potential employees alike. WNBA players continue negotiations with the league...for a new collective bargaining agreement. We explain why failure to get a deal done by October 31st...could at minimum delay the 2026 WNBA season. We also explain why we believe next season will be cancelled...and why NBA owners are likely the reason a new CBA hasn't been finalized. In this episode of the Cyber Uncut podcast, David Hollingworth and Daniel Croft discuss CommBank's use of AI to stop scams, local hacks and international cyber news, creepy AI toys for kids, and the alarming fact that what we know about ransomware attacks is just the tip of the iceberg. Hollingworth and Croft begin the podcast with two Commonwealth Bank stories: CBA rolling back its job cuts after AI chatbots fail to keep up with customer demand, and the bank's novel use of AI to stymie scammers. The pair move on to a story with some incredible twists and turns after an Israeli cyber security specialist working for the government was arrested in Las Vegas for a shocking alleged crime, the iiNet hack that saw more Aussie data compromised by cyber criminals, and attacks on Australian institutions by pro-Palestine hackers. Hollingworth and Croft round things up with a creepy tale of two AI-powered toys designed to cut down on screen time for children, but which actually sound like a nightmare in their own right. Spike and Fritz play audio from MLB commissioner Rob Manfred at the Little League Classic suggesting that there could be realigned MLB divisions in the next CBA.
The reason the Mets waited so long to call up Nolan McLean wasn't about saving a year of team control or being cheap, as many have speculated. It was a calculated move by David Stearns to secure a potential extra first-round draft pick. Under the new CBA, a top-100 prospect who qualifies as a rookie and wins Rookie of the Year or finishes in the top three for MVP or Cy Young can earn their team a compensatory pick. By delaying McLean's call-up until he had only 44 days of service time, the Mets ensured he would still qualify for rookie status in a future season, giving the organization a shot at this valuable incentive. While some argue that waiting for a draft pick is a "crock" and that the team should have prioritized winning now, it's clear this strategic decision was all about building for the long-term future. College football is inching closer to a collective bargaining model. And with it comes big changes: transfer limits, regulated agents, and incentive-based contracts. But will that just bring back the bag men? We break it down. The NFL sold NFL Media, including NFL Network and RedZone, to ESPN in exchange for equity. But there's one problem…Trump could still block the deal. Plus: • MLB's “Speedway Classic” in Bristol was a total disaster. Think Fyre Fest, but with bunless hot dogs and no cheese for nachos. • A Portland Pickles “fan” hits a home run and the internet smells a work. • Brewers manager Pat Murphy keeps pancakes and pizza slices in his pants. • The WNBA has a dildo problem and we're officially in weird territory. • Ohio wants to kill prop bets. • Smelling salts are banned in the NFL. • And tennis gets its own reality dating show at the US Open.
We welcome Cam Johnson (Denver Nuggets), CJ McCollum (Washington Wizards), Duncan Robinson (Detroit Pistons), and Georges Niang (Boston Celtics) to this week's episode! Four players who are all on new teams heading into this season. They discuss what it's like being traded to or signing with a new team, and if the increased amount of player movement is good for the NBA or not. Then, they have a fascinating, in-depth conversation about CJ's tenure as president of the NBPA, the CBA, and the differences in approaches to the business side of the league between the players and front office.
