Gil's Arena Reacts To An INSANE Final Day Of The NBA Season as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew return to Gil's Arena and react to one of the crazy ending of the 2024-25 NBA Season. They kick off the show by breaking down Game 7 of The NBA Finals where the OKC Thunder proved why they were the best team in the NBA all season and sealed their legacies with an NBA Championship over the Indiana Pacers. They discuss what this incredible season capped off by an NBA Finals MVP means for Shai Gilgeous Alexander and debate if this incredibly young Thunder team gave birth to the next NBA dynasty with their championship win. They then react to the most heartbreaking news from the night as Tyrese Haliburton's improbable run through the NBA Playoffs was cut short due to an Achillies injury that sunk the Pacers chances early on in this game. They discuss what's next for the Pacers as they must try and get back to the Finals without their superstar point guard next season and debate if it was the right call to allow Haliburton to play through a calf strain in Games 6 & 7. Next, they react to the blockbuster Kevin Durant trade that saw the NBA Legend get traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and a handful of draft picks and set the sports world ablaze ahead of Game 7. They debate if this was the right move for the Houston Rockets as they look to elevate themselves into the upper tier of the NBA and discuss what's next for the Phoenix Suns after dismantling their superteam and leaving Devin Booker with a floundering franchise once again. Finally, NBA Champion Metta World Peace enters Gil's Arena to give his take on the incredible NBA Finals, break down his experience playing alongside legends like Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady and reveal the truth on being the face of the D-Band. The NBA Playoffs are heating up! We have reached the Conference Finals. We have Knicks vs Pacers and Timberwolves vs Thunder. Who will we see in the 2025 NBA Finals?
Every year no mater the sport, no matter the decade, every season has certain characteristics and highlights that sets that year apart from all others. The 1978 NBA Season has it own distinctive flavor from the New York Nets moving to Piscataway from Long Island and becoming the New Jersey Nets to the Washington Bullets winning their only NBA title. Yet were there were two other events that took place during 1978 NBA regular season that set that year apart and in both cases forever linked two pairs of players together in NBA history. In one instance, two future basketball Hall of Famers had a season long scoring duel that ended with a climatic finish on the last day of the regular season that rewrote the record books. Yet there was another event that happened in the early stages of the 1978 regular season that became one of the league's most infamous. So infamous in fact that it actually prompted an investigative report from legendary CBS Evening News anchor Walter Cronkite. The incident was known simply in the annals of NBA history as "The Punch". We have that and so much more on this all new edition of the Historically Speaking Sports podcast right here on the Sports History Network. The podcast that give you the best of sports from back in the day.You could follow us on Twitter/X or Threads, Blue Sky and Instagram.
