There's never enough time on TV to talk about everything we want to cover, so we're taking the after party digital! The "we" is Mike Doocy and Sam Gannon, co-hosts of "Free4All" on FOX 4 in Dallas.
Back in action after a little well-deserved time off. We start with Sam's chance meeting with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones at the World Cup announcement - and it did not go as Sam expected. We're also talking training camp and why the Cowboys are destined for a better season than last and - we think - a great playoff run. And yes, Dak can be the quarterback that takes the team to the promised land. And on the personal side, we'll talk about the power of exercise to your mental health and opening up to those around you. It's important.
We're back after an accidental hiatus with a pod packed full of basketball analysis, personal stories, and the ugly truth about allergies. Plus, some talk about a Dallas Cowboy, a shooting investigation, and choosing your friends wisely. The Dallas Mavericks got a statement win against Utah in the second game of their playoff series. We're looking forward to watching what the team that won't quit can do. Even when their brightest star is sitting on the bench in civies. We'll also talk about Jason Kidd's connections and *cough* LeBron *cough* . Speaking of which, allergies are roaring into spring and digging into Sam. But not Mike. Weird, huh?And there are wedding bells ringing in the Doocy household as our favorite "girl dad" gets ready to get triggered - into a good cry.
We're packed to the rafters for Pod 8! First, we snuck some time with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. (it was in the middle of a crowded restaurant but still) about losing Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb being the #1 receiver, and the effect of the turnover on the locker room. Then, we spend some time with the Dallas Stars color commentator Daryl "Razor" Reaugh on his bobblehead night! We'll talk about that honor, plus tales of the glory days when the Stars first came to town, and the team owner playing bouncer in the general admission seats! And then... there's the Twitter storm about Sam's culinary acclimation to Texas. Sam responds to the firestorm over her questioning the awesomeness of such breaded excellence as CFS. And, apparently, NO COWBOY BOOTS EVER!But she did pick up the "y'all".
Seriously. Dirk is just a rare combination of once-in-a-generation NBA player, team leader, mentor, and a straight-up nice guy. We're so grateful for his time in talking with us about his career, his new biography, and mentoring possibly the greatest player right now: Luka Dončić. And a slightly embarrassing moment on a plane with Dirk and his new book. We'll let him explain. Plus:The greatest player Dirk ever faced (and it's not Jordan)Is Dirk a Shark Tank fan?Dirk's dream job -- Media? Management?Current music choices (lots of 90s, which is arguably the best decade for music)
March 7th is Mike Doocy Day on the pod, celebrating the day Mike joined FOX 4 in 1994. Things we'll cover in this episode:The studio "out in the middle of a cornfield"Mike's first television gig (the regular guys called in sick) in Topeka, KansasThe call from KDFW in Dallas and "Channel 4 defends small market TV anchor" momentBeing the sideline reporter during the John Madden/Pat Summerall days at FOXMissing the glory days of television and the changes that some with themCovering the Super Bowl - whether the Cowboys were in it or notThe National Anthem controversy and the reaction on social media from asking Jerry Jones about it - when the topic was supposed to be off limitsCovering Dirk Nowitzki, Troy Aikman, the Stanley Cup-winning Dallas Stars and watching Michael Irvin running routes at a local school
We have a LOT to talk about with the Dallas Mavericks. Good stuff, thankfully. The Mavs beat the Golden State Warriors and showed that they're a team that can put together team wins when Luka's not always getting it done.Great Shaq talk about the NBA legend's appearance in Dallas at a fundraising luncheon for St. Philip's School and Community Center. The highlights: the jacket he never got in high school, hand grenades, and Wheaties. It'll make sense on the pod.And how in the world are you supposed to talk about sports (or anything else, for that matter) after the Russian invasion of Ukraine? It's possible. Almost necessary.
We're rolling with Pod 4!We didn't quite expect there to be this much Dallas Cowboys drama this week, but apparently that memo didn't get shared widely.... because this week was a doozy.First, Mike McCarthy goes on the big sports program and let fly: about working with Head Coach-In-Waiting Dan Quinn and maintaining his relationship with the boss,, Jerry Jones. Then came the shocker - that (according to ESPN) the Cowboys paid $2.4 million to settle cheerleaders' voyeurism allegations against one of the ultimate team insiders. You'll probably remember THIS INCIDENT from 2015. https://. .be/nTQ_47USRF8 It's enough to give you the blues. Speaking of.... we'll talk about a lack of motivation in the sports office these days. Burning calories, exercise, the "charcuterie board of all kinds of awful things" in the Weather office. If you're on Twitter.com, find Sam here: https://twitter.com/SamGannon87 and Mike here: https://twitter.com/MikeDoocyFox4LikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeLikeSubscribeThankyou
It's New Year's, Christmas, Thanksgiving, plus Mike AND Sam's birthdays, all rolled into one Super weekend! We're reminiscing about the good old days - when the Dallas Cowboys played regularly in Super Bowls. Sorry, fans. Bengals QB Joe Burrow goes full-on fashion (cue Joe Namath comparisons), $4,000 parking spaces to go with the $5,000 tickets, and a Sunday heat wave in LA?It's not inflation. It's the NFL.Plus, a look back at Super Bowl XLV, and that time a member of our sports staff almost - literally - gave his all.
We're finally clear of the winter storm that briefly shut down North Texas. In Pod 2, we talk about how even people from Massachusetts and Iowa don't dare drive on ice, getting the pod up and running, and the pros and cons of New Years resolutions.Former Dolphins coach Brian Flores sues the NFL and three individual teams. We'll talk about the lack of diversity in the current roster oF NFL coaches, Flores's chances of landing a head coaching job after going toe-to-toe with the league, and what could turn out to be an extremely awkward Super Bowl week for the commissioner. We'll also spare a few minutes for a non-FOX event: the Winter Olympics. What Mike and Sam are watching - and could totally do without.
While the ice thaws and the roads clear, we thought we'd thought we'd let you know that Pod 2 will be up this weekend! We'll be talking about current events (like Brian Flores going to war against the NFL) and some things that we've been wanting to discuss since this pod began.Like - why? This is not an "everybody's-got-one-so-should-we" kinda deal. There's so much that we talk about in the office and on the set that never makes it on to TV. Having an outlet for these things is why we wanted to do this. TV really isn't big enough for what we've got going!See you Sunday!Sammy the G & MFD (better know as Sam & Mike)
TV just isn't big enough. We decided to start this pod because the conversations we were having after the show ended were too good to leave on the cutting room floor. So... here we go!The Dallas Cowboys were just getting to grips with the quick end to their playoff dreams when their dream coach suddenly decided that he was done. For now. In this episode, we'll talk about Sean Payton's departure from the New Orleans Saints, his history with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, and why Mike McCarthy is safe. For now, anyway. We'll also talk about where the Cowboys go from here, after their breakthrough season turned out to be more of the same. Do the players need someone to "grab them by the throat" as Drew Pearson told us recently? Maybe. Then again, maybe another Bill Parcells type is just a something the fans' imagination came up with. This is Mike: https://www.fox4news.com/person/d/mike-doocyThis is Sam: https://www.fox4news.com/person/g/samantha-gannonLIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!
