On the Saturday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko to sort through the week in NFL mock draft picks for new coach Mike McCarthy's team. Is USC's Makai Lemon a prospect who could fall to the Steelers at No. 21 overall, as he did in some mocks this week? Or is he still a prospect they'd need to trade up to select? And how does his game compare to that of larger receivers in this class, including Denzel Boston, Jordyn Tyson and Carnell Tate? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Is Indiana's Omar Cooper Jr. a receiver fans need to put on their proverbial radar? Especially with an eye toward Day 2 of the NFL draft? Would Alabama QB Ty Simpson really have the luxury of learning behind a veteran were he drafted by the Steelers in the first round? Especially if the veteran is anyone other than Aaron Rodgers? Should we be looking more closely at tackle prospects including Spencer Fano, Caleb Lomu and Kadyn Proctor following GM Omar Khan's lukewarm assessment of Broderick Jones' long-term health? And should we be talking more about defensive line prospects than pundits have been nationally? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko to react to the NFLPA's survey results and the latest from the NFL combine. What should we make of the team's failing grades in the union's annual report card, the results of which were leaked to ESPN this week? Does owner Art Rooney II need to invest more in facilities and player support services? Why did GM Omar Khan get a low grade from players? Will the Steelers miss the fondness players have developed for Mike Tomlin over the years? And how much impact does any of this have on competitiveness and the ability to sign top free agents like Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and DK Metcalf in recent years. Our duo tackles those questions, then weighs in on news and notes from the combine in Indianapolis. Should we look more closely at Alabama QB Ty Simpson amid reports that he impressed the Steelers? Could LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier get a closer look because of his father's pre-existing relationship with new coach Mike McCarthy? And who intrigues Brian from the receiver meeting list that includes Jordyn Tyson, Carnell Tate, Makai Lemon, Elijah Sarratt, Ted Hurst, Antonio Williams and De'Zhaun Stribling? Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the third day of prospect interviews at the 2026 NFL Combine, which continued on Friday morning with quarterbacks and wide receivers. The Steelers did use four of their 45 formal interviews at the quarterback position, with Ty Simpson, Drew Allar, Garrett Nussmeier and Carson Beck all getting formals. But it was the wide receiver position that Mike McCarthy and company blitzkrieged, using over a dozen formal visits on that position, which has been one of dire need for the team for several years now. Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Ty Simpson raved about Mike McCarthy in his press conference at the combine. Mullsy thinks that this amount of praise is notable, and even unnatural. He also thinks that Simpson's praise could be because he wants to be a Steeler. Are the Steelers really considering drafting Simpson?
Mark Kaboly joins the show for the next hour. Kaboly says that it makes a lot of sense that Ty Simpson liked Mike McCarthy, given McCarthy's personality. He also says that he does not think that the Steelers are going to take a QB in round 1. An anonymous benefactor dropped off a supply drop of burgers and wings, and it has the guys all out of sorts. Anyways, Mark thinks that the Steelers will go wide receiver in round one. The release of the NFLPA report cards already has the Steelers making changes. The Steelers have changed up their type of grass at Acrisure Stadium after all of the complaints from last season. Mark does not think there is any chance that the Steelers trade DK Metcalf.

Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise ponders the San Francisco 49ers' Mac Jones as a potential trade target for GM Omar Khan and the Steelers this offseason. Could he be the best option realistically available over veterans like Kyler Murray, Malik Willis or Daniel Jones? Or over NFL draft options like Ty Simpson, Cade Klubnik, Garrett Nussmeier and Drew Allar? How would he compare to Aaron Rodgers should last year's starter decide to return for 2026? What about other internal options like Mason Rudolph and Will Howard? And to what degree would Mike McCarthy be suited to getting more from Jones than he shown thus far in his NFL career? Paul tackles those questions and offers more reactions to the latest news from the NFL combine in Indianapolis. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Penguins get back to it tonight in their first game without Sidney Crosby following his injury in the Olympics. They are in a playoff spot and have been one of the best stories in the NHL. But the guys have a big question – why is nobody going to the games? Is it more complex than the ticket price, concessions, travel to the game, etc. or is it really that simple? Fans explain why they are/aren't going to Penguins games. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike works for NBC and the company is making some changes to their broadcast team heading into next season, including Tony Dungy being let go. In an article today, names like Mike Tomlin, Cam Heyward and Aaron Rodgers were thrown into the mix, but Mike has no bearing to say the likelihood of that happening. Mike insisted that Tomlin still has the pick of the litter when it comes to networks and will be on TV if he wants to be. What is the latest buzz Mike is hearing from the NFL Combine? Mike has his doubts that Mike McCarthy and the Steelers are in love with Will Howard the way they say. Mike said we still don't officially know if the guaranteed money is owed to DK Metcalf following the fan incident in Detroit. Mike doesn't think it would be wise to move on from Metcalf after one season. Mike questioned Rodgers wanting to play for McCarthy after the comments he made regarding his football IQ years ago.

Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo report from the NFL combine in Indianapolis, where GM Omar Khan spoke extensively about the team's QB situation. The guys react to Khan's comments about Aaron Rodgers as well as backup Will Howard, who has the attention of new coach Mike McCarthy because of his performance in practice over the past year. They also give their thoughts on the 2026 QB class and the possibility that names like Drew Allar, Cade Klubnik or Garrett Nussmeier could be added to the mix with a Day 2 or Day 3 NFL draft pick in anticipation of the stronger 2027 QB class. Live from the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis where Steelers GM Omar Khan and Rich discuss Mike Tomlin parting ways with the team after 19 years in Pittsburgh, how he landed on hiring former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, the team's plan for Aaron Rodgers next season, what he's looking for at the Combine, and what message he has for die-hard fans in the Steel City. Titans HC Robert Saleh tells Rich what attracted him to the Tennessee job, what he learned from his first head coaching gig with the New York Jets, the expectations for 2nd-year QB Cam Ward under new OC Brian Daboll, and more. Lions GM Brad Holmes tells Rich why he went against the grain by drafting RB Jahmyr Gibbs 12th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, how last season's key injuries could impact Detroit's 2026 NFL Draft approach, discusses head coach Dan Campbell's penchant for going for hit on 4th down, reveals what message he has for critics who say the team's Super Bowl window is closed, and the moment he knew future Hall of Fame DT Aaron Donald was special. Tiki and the crew hit the QB carousel chatter (Rodgers fatigue included), debate the real value of this year's wide receiver buzz, and dig into whether Max Crosby trade smoke is actually real or just a Tom Brady conversation away from disappearing. Then the local angle heats up with Jets franchise tag talk for Breece Hall and why a transition tag makes way more sense than the non-exclusive tag. They also touch the new head coach era with John Harbaugh and Mike McCarthy at the podium, the “Mendoza mania” storyline that might be nothing, and the draft question that could define this class: will there be a second quarterback in Round 1, or are we staring at a rare one QB first round scenario? Finally, they get into Jeremiah Love and how high is too high for a running back, even if he's a top tier talent.
Omar Khan spoke to the media today as the NFL Combine is underway in Indianapolis. The biggest takeaway is what he said about quarterback and Mike McCarthy. Do we think Khan wants Aaron Rodgers back the same way the coach wants? The guys believe Khan actually wants Will Howard to start and push to the future, but the coach and owner could be holding that back. Poni has his doubts we find many people that will be calling in defense of the older QB.

Would any other team, besides the Steelers, consider him? Sports Court w/ our friends from Edgar Snyder & Associates. With Konnor Griffin mashing the baseball today, the guys asked if any prospect in baseball could make a legal push to be on a big-league roster earlier than they should? After Sidney Crosby was hurt in the Olympics, what legal standing is there when it comes to pro players taking part in international competition? Rob told us baseball and hockey are different, and that each player in MLB has to have insurance policies in-place before they play in something like the World Baseball Classic. He added that players that don't get insured could lose everything if they get injured.
On the Monday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo preview the week for the Steelers at the NFL combine in Indianapolis. What are the biggest questions facing GM Omar Khan amid the coaching staff transition from Mike Tomlin to Mike McCarthy? How does the new staff -- which includes OC Brian Angelichio and DC Patrick Graham -- feel about expensive veterans on the roster including Jalen Ramsey, Jonnu Smith and Patrick Queen? Could the team move on from any or all of them this offseason? Could and edge rusher like T.J. Watt, Nick Herbig, Alex Highsmith or Jack Sawyer be on the trade block? And how are things progressing on the QB front, where Aaron Rodgers' future is uncertain and the free agent and trade candidates are lacking beyond names like Malik Willis? Our duo tackles those topics, then details the top prospects to watch from a Steelers perspective at the combine, including Caleb Downs, Jordyn Tyson, Denzel Boston, Makai Lemon, Carnell Tate, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, Dillon Thieneman and more. On the Saturday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel, host Adam Bittner and Post-Gazette Steelers insider Christopher Carter analyze the week in NFL mock draft picks for new coach Mike McCarthy's team with the NFL combine looming next week. How big of a need does defensive line remain with Cam Heyward turning 37 and Keeanu Benton facing a lot of questions. Could a player like Clemson's Peter Woods be a solid long-term running mate for Derrick Harmon up front? And what about alternatives like Caden McDonald or Lee Hunter? Our duo tackles those questions and more. -- Does Florida's Devin Moore have exactly the size and analytics profile that the Steelers tended to emphasize under Mike Tomlin? -- Would a combination of Germie Bernard and Malachi Fields work if GM Omar Khan passes on a first-round receiver? Could Fields' size and contested catch skills, plus Bernard's ability to play in the slot be exactly what McCarthy's offense needs opposite DK Metcalf? -- Is Denzel Boston still the prospect who fits best in terms of the Steelers' needs and his likely draft position? -- Is Kansas QB Jalen Daniels worth spending a pick on as a veteran QB with some mobility? In this clip from the Wednesday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Christopher Carter to ponder Troy Fautanu's future on the offensive line. Should GM Omar Khan and new coach Mike McCarthy consider using Troy Fautanu's versatility to move him to the guard spot likely to be vacated by veteran Isaac Seumalo this NFL offseason? Or has he show too much promise at his current right tackle spot? How does Broderick Jones' injury situation loom over the conversation? Could internal options like Dyan Cook and Spencer Anderson prove to be solutions for new position coach James Campen? And what does Chris think of potential NFL draft solutions like Vega Ioane, Emmanuel Pregnon and Billy Schrauth? Our duo tackles those questions, then ponders free agent options some analysts have connected to the Steelers. Should GM Omar Khan and new coach Mike McCarthy be eyeing older veterans like Mike Evans and Tyreek Hill to balance DK Metcalf on the outside, as ESPN's Sam Acho suggested recently? Or is it time for the franchise to move on from short-term band-aids an target younger free agents like Alec Pierce and Romeo Doubs, who could be with the team for several years? And where do NFL draft options like Makai Lemon, Denzel Boston, Jordyn Tyson and KC Concepcion fit into the equation? Later, the guys talk RBs and analyst and former NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew suggesting the Steelers should sign Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III. Do the Steelers need to spend lavishly at that position? Or would it be better off investing in its 2025 options Jaylen Warren, Kaleb Johnson and Kenneth Gainwell? And how should Khan address the position if Gainwell leaves for a lucrative deal in free agency? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Send a textThe kind of football that makes Pittsburgh feel like Pittsburgh isn't an accident—it's a choice. We open the playbook on what defines the Steelers now: the city's unmatched stadium atmosphere on the North Shore, the legends who set the bar, and the decisions that could turn a short window into a serious run. From the animated Mount Rushmore debate to reliving Polamalu's chaos and Hines Ward's grin-through-the-hit toughness, we map the DNA that still drives this team. Then we get current and honest. Mike McCarthy's hire lands with mixed energy—some want a long-haul architect, others see a proven leader who understands Pittsburgh's culture and knows how to assemble a staff. Bridge coach or not, the task is clear: pick a quarterback path and build hard around it. We lean into the Rodgers question—one more year of elite processing and on-field coaching—or hand the keys to Will Howard and commit to development. Either way, the roster must match the vision. That's where the draft and free agency come into focus. Wide receiver is priority one: a WR2 who separates, wins late in the route, and stretches safeties. We talk names, traits, and how a true vertical threat reshapes the offense. From there, we zero in on tackle depth to keep the quarterback upright and a secondary upgrade to survive a league engineered for points. And yes, we tackle the TJ Watt question head-on—what loyalty, value, and timing mean when your best players carry big contracts and bigger expectations. If you love real Steelers talk—stadium lore, coaching nuance, cap realities, and a draft board that actually fits the scheme—you'll feel at home here. Mark & Dan recap all of the head coaching hires during this coaching cycle, including their thoughts on Mike McCarthy to the Steelers, Kevin Stefanski to the Falcons, and John Harbaugh to the Giants.
Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise offers his thoughts on the Steelers' options at receiver this offseason. Should GM Omar Khan and new coach Mike McCarthy consider signing former Pro Bowl wideout Tyreek Hill after he was released by the Miami Dolphins on Monday? Would he be a good fit at the No. 2 spot across from DK Metcalf? Does his skill set overlap too much with that of Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin III? Or would the Steelers be better off looking at NFL draft prospects including Makai Lemon, Jordyn Tyson, Denzel Boston and KC Concepcion? Paul tackles those topics and more. February 16, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 94 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the plethora of roster cuts the Miami Dolphins appear set to make ahead of the start of the 2026 NFL year in March. We do wonder, however, if a few of the Miami reported forthcoming cuts might ultimately be designated for post June 1. Headlining these upcoming cuts the Dolphins will reportedly make are WR Tyreek, Hill, G James Daniels, EDGE Bradley Chubb, and WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. Throughout this Monday show, Alex and I address the probability and plausibility that the Pittsburgh Steelers will ultimately select at least one quarterback during the 2026 NFL Draft. We talk about what spending a 2026 draft pick on a quarterback might mean when it comes to veteran backup QB Mason Rudolph and especially if veteran QB Aaron Rodgers is ultimately re-signed. With the Steelers now installing Mike McCarthy as the team's new head coach, Alex and I revisit the team's extensive list of players that are scheduled to become free agents in March. We roll back through that lengthy list of players one-by-one and go over the likelihood of each ultimately being re-signed. As part of our 2026 free agent list rundown during this episode, Alex and I spend extra time discussing the potential futures in Pittsburgh of CB James Pierre, RB Kenneth Gainwell, CB Asante Samuel Jr., and G Isaac Seumalo. There were a few other minor news tidbits concerning the Steelers that surfaced over the weekend, so Alex and I make sure to go over all of those items that are worth mentioning. This 91-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the above recap and we end thus show by answering several emails we received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. On the Monday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo ponder the team's biggest needs heading into the NFL offseason. Should new coach Mike McCarthy and GM Omar Khan invest more in the offensive line and add a name like Vega Ioane to their young core that includes names like Broderick Jones, Zach Frazier, Troy Fautanu and Mason McCormick? And how much room for growth does that group still have to become an elite unit? ' Our duo ponders those questions, then considers the possibility that this could be a playmakers draft for the Steelers. Would receivers like Jordyn Tyson, Denzel Boston and Makai Lemon be exactly what this offense needs, regardless of whether the QB is Aaron Rodgers or someone else? How much would such a pick free up DK Metcalf on the outside? And is there a chance McCarthy will seek a running back to complement Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson? Especially if Kenneth Gainwell doesn't re-sign? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

On the Thursday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Brian Batko react to the podcast beef between former franchise Super Bowl champions Joey Porter, Ben Roethlisberger and James Harrison. Is their back-and-forth over Mike Tomlin criticism too messy? Especially with the franchise moving on into new coach Mike McCarthy's tenure? Are Harrison and Roethlisberger valid in their critiques? Or at least in bounds? Or has the bad blood gotten too personal on both sides? And how does the whole episode that unfolded on Cam Heyward's show this week impact legacies? Our duo tackles those questions then ponders Aaron Rodgers' future amid a report from NFL insider Jason La Canfora that it's either the Steelers or retirement for him in 2026. Is that the logical outcome for the 42-year-old QB at this stage of his career? Or could he still find some magic with a team like the Minnesota Vikings, who have a well-respected play caller in Kevin O'Connell and a young QB in J.J. McCarthy who could be helped by Rodgers' mentorship? Should the Steelers want Rodgers back in their QB room, given his connection to new coach Mike McCarthy from their days with the Green Bay Packers? Or should Rodgers' spot go to a younger player next to Mason Rudolph and Will Howard? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Jason highlights the fact that the football overlords are valuing content over competition. They have manipulated the TV ratings system to shroud a decline in interest and are now massaging the meaningfulness of competition to add content capable of drawing additional dollars in lieu of the true meaning of each game: the actual competition. The football overlords have their media minions framing a decline in ratings for Super Bowl LX and its Bad Bunny halftime show. Jay Skapinac joins the discussion featuring NBA teams tanking, LeBron avoiding competition against the best, and Bill Simmons pointing the finger at NBA czar Adam Silver. Danny Kanell wraps the show discussing the Big Ten 24-team CFP proposal; Drake Maye's postseason performance; Ryan Clark claiming he would take nine NFC QBs over Sam Darnold; and the rumored Aaron Rodgers reunion with Mike McCarthy in Pittsburgh.
