British actor, rapper, and comedian Michael Dapaah tells Brett Berish what it was like playing fictional rapper Big Shaq, and making it in the industry.
We have a LOT to talk about with the Dallas Mavericks. Good stuff, thankfully. The Mavs beat the Golden State Warriors and showed that they're a team that can put together team wins when Luka's not always getting it done.Great Shaq talk about the NBA legend's appearance in Dallas at a fundraising luncheon for St. Philip's School and Community Center. The highlights: the jacket he never got in high school, hand grenades, and Wheaties. It'll make sense on the pod.And how in the world are you supposed to talk about sports (or anything else, for that matter) after the Russian invasion of Ukraine? It's possible. Almost necessary.

Very few of us will ever be lucky enough to become an internet meme. Sure, sometimes being a meme can decidedly go the wrong way – just ask Chair Girl – but other times it can open a lot of doors. Case in point, Big Shaq, or as he's known out in the real world, Michael Dapaah. This hilarious comedian had been making comedy sketches and sharing them on YouTube and Instagram for nearly a decade before he had his big break in 2017 with his appearance on Fire in the Booth and his subsequent music video for “Man's Not Hot”. Following those back-to-back hits, suddenly the character of Big Shaq that he originally created for his web series “Somewhere in London” was far more famous than he ever imagined possible. And unlike with most internet memes, Michael has discovered a way to continue to keep his comedy relevant by producing more and more content -- more music videos, more comedy sketches, and recently, a brand-new series that sees him shift into the fitness space, a passion he's always held from a young age when he wanted to be a footballer in his earliest years. Michael likes to describe this series as “Carpool Karaoke” at the gym – and today I'm going to tell you all about how he arrived at this moment of re-invention.
To celebrate the recent release of the new Space Jam, we're releasing the basketball episode of our multi-part Sportstacular. In this one, Steve and his brother Dave, an enthusiast for the cultural ephemera of sports, cure Joe of his general apathy towards the game with a selection of hits from the likes of John Tesh, Kurtis Blow, Aaron Carter, Alan Parsons, and even Big Shaq himself. "Why is the top "100 songs ever" mostly old songs?" [Obvious when you think about it] We're on a mission to help one million people RISE by 2030 - join the movement at www.myrise.co.uk I had a comment on one of our social media posts the other day. “Why don't you have as many new ones of these?” About our success stories. “As many new ones as what?” I replied. “The old ones” they answered. “You don't seem to get as many new ones”. They were wondering why we have less new success stories than we have old ones. Which I get. A higher proportion of the success stories we put out there are from, let's say, 2012 to 2019 then they are from 2020 to 2021. For two reasons. 1. We probably have been able to get less before and afters done – not that they're not happening, just that we've only had about a third of that time in the club and our average membership numbers were a bit down during the lockdowns. But, more importantly; 2. 2012 – 2019 is a longer time period. If the number of before and afters we were getting was the same every single month since we opened, then there would automatically be “more old ones than new ones”. 88 months would produce more than 19 months. “Quick maths” Big Shaq would say. It's like observing that most songs in a “Top 100 songs of all time” are “old” (not from the last year or two)…………. And thinking this automatically means “modern music isn't as good”. When you're comparing 60+ years to 2 years. We could stop sharing the older success stories, I suppose. But, why would we? They occurred in our programme. Which has improved year on year. A different success story might just ring true with a particular person seeing it. Even if it is from a few years ago. That being said, we're always up for new success stories. That's what we ultimately do. Successes. Results. Whilst enjoying the process (or, at the very least, finding it sufficiently tolerable compared to other methods). Some are more physical and lend themselves to a ‘before and after'. Many more run a lot deeper. Some don't want to be shared publicly (and that's cool). But we're always up for more success. If you're already a member and it's not going quite as you'd like, let's change that now. What needs to happen for you to look back in a few months and think it's been successful? Talk to us about it. Much love, Jon ‘Hit Parade' Hall

Nick is ALL FIRED UP in this eppy! Welcome back, and welcome us back to your ears. We bring back some classics, hear from some new sponsors, and guffaw at the many tales of love and woe we are here to bestow. Nick yells at a man in a restaurant. Brad explains the origins of the universe. We all die in the end. Enjoy, Traveler!
From a virtual sit-down with President Obama to a ‘Shaq pregnancy test’ (that can’t be right), Nischelle, Spice & Big Diesel are back with plenty to talk about. The crew shares lots of laughs with another edition of ‘Now That’s Spicy!’ and Ro Parrish stops by to discuss the end of Kobe Bryant's Nike deal. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We go ham on a classic segment of Brads favorite- Name That Tune! We hear from some sponsors, and dive headfirst into current events. Nick talks about dirty pee pants in The Memory Warehouse. Brad stumbles all over it, per usual. All the worlds a stage right? This stage though, is most definitely our really silly stage.
durée : 00:29:00 - Le Warm-up Mix - Propose tes sons préférés à Muxxa pour des gros mix en direct pendant 30 minutes. De quoi bien commencer tes après-midi !
We rang in the new year with a bang, didn't we, America? We get a little serious, a little silly, and a whole lotta cool in this latest eppy from ya boys. We talk abouts coups, cocoos, and cookin up some good ol fanshioned biscuits and humor. We hear from Tex, and serve up a little advert from ouselves. We also visit some usual segments in true TP fashion. Wipe your butt and take a seat, we're going for a ride.
We got rid of the bats, and It's the most wonderful time of the year! In this Yule tide eppy, we reminisce on the magic of the holidays, we blaze through a lightening fast round of "Brad Science (We're gonna learn some shit)", and we broke a rule and talked politics around the presidential transition. We hear from one of our favorite sponsors, and bring you a teaser for our Christmas album- A Very Terrible Acapella Christmas. Over the river and through the woods, to our slow, public descent into madness we go.
Welcome back to Don’t Alert the Stans! And we have come to the end of Season 5! For the final episode until next year, the news agenda kicks off with Universal Music who have announced the launch of 0207 Def Jam UK. The new label will be head up by British-Ghanaian twins Alec & Alex Boateng, coming together after individual stints at Island Records and Warner Music (24:13). Next up is a story that Nic was privy to before it was officially announced to press. Comedian, personality and parody rapper Munya Chawawa has signed a contract with Atlantic Records. The boys discuss what needs to be done for Munya to have long-term success as opposed to the short-lived viral popularity that Big Shaq received (35:06). Closing out the episode and the overall season is The Grammys. The 2021 nominations were announced last week and more than ever, Nic, Sope and Eden are appalled at the artists who were snubbed and the artists who were needlessly represented across certain categories. Leading to a discussion about whether it is truly time to abolish the authority given to award shows (47:28). Not one to miss! Sope’s Listens for the Week: Zhane - Sending My Love K.
