In this bonus episode of The Spark, Koto CEO and founder James Greenfield returns for a lighter, weirder, and more wonderfully random chat. From his most controversial creative opinion (spoiler: it involves Apple) to dreams featuring Mr Bingo demanding to be called 'The Way', nothing is off-limits. We chat about parenting, drum and bass, the strange comfort of Marcus Aurelius audiobooks, and the surprisingly joyful art of reading mean internet comments. James also reveals the creative outlet he's rubbish at (but would love to master), the most embarrassing pitch moment of his career, and the one thing he wishes Apple TV would sort out immediately. This one's for the curious, the creative, and anyone who's ever planted a hydrangea in the shade and called it therapy. And that's Season Nine wrapped up. It's been an absolute blast. We've loved every minute. Thank you to all our guests for joining us on the show, and a big thank you to the School of Communication Arts for making this season possible. We'll be back in the autumn with fresh guests, new and exciting themes, and more fun and games. Until then, have a great summer.

Send us a textWhen the unexpected strikes, how do you adapt? Michael shares the story of his recent cycling accident where he encountered an almost-invisible brown hose stretched across concrete pavement during a training ride. With just seconds to react, his front tire turned 90 degrees, sending him face-first onto the road, resulting in a fractured clavicle and extensive road rash. This first-ever broken bone in thousands of cycling miles comes with particularly unfortunate timing—just 19 days before the pair's planned Ride Across Indiana (RAIN).As the hosts navigate this setback, they explore options ranging from postponing their registration to next year, Michael serving as SAG driver while Adam rides, or finding alternative adventures altogether. The conversation reveals the philosophy that defines their approach to cycling: it's not about reaching destinations, but experiencing the journey and connections made along the way.Adam shares his recent trip to Des Moines, Iowa, where cycling memories unexpectedly surfaced through familiar establishments from previous RAGBRAI rides, including the beloved Big Red Truck food vendor and Thelma's ice cream sandwiches. These culinary touchpoints sparked nostalgic conversations about past cycling adventures and the communities that form around these shared experiences.Through injury recovery discussio Support Jersey StoreRemote Trails RadioRemote Trails Radio is a laid-back and engaging podcast where two friends share...Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify Keep Travelling – Your African VacationInsightful interviews with Africa's tourism professionals - Great giveaways from 5* guestsListen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the showEmbarking on a journey of camaraderie that spans years, Adam and Michael have cultivated a deep friendship rooted in their mutual passion for cycling. In this week's episode, both of our storytellers share tales of well-intentioned choices gone wrong.Part 1: In fourth grade, Ro Moran is thrilled to be trusted with the class pet iguana, Iggy, for the night. But by morning, something is very wrong. Part 2: As an exchange student studying superconducting oxides, Karoline Mueller tries to save money by gold-coating a cheap crucible instead of using a solid gold one. Ro is an award-winning empanada eater with a penchant for storytelling. His credits include Prose of Pie, Tiny Tales, Story Boom, Story Collider En Español, and producing the Westchester-based 'Say Word' show. He is most remembered for his groundbreaking trio with his 14yr and 3 yr old . They've since broken up due to ‘creative differences'. When Ro isn't telling tales, he is a social justice warrior for human rights non profits. Karoline is the youngest of 4 siblings. Growing up in Germany, the family interests included music, art, nature, and building things. From fairly young, there was no question in her mind but she would study music and teach private music lessons. Her plan got smashed in the audition process and she was not accepted into a conservatory program. It took her some time to recover from this huge disappointment. In a relatively random way, she stumbled on the book, Urban Systems in Crisis, by a biochemist and network thinker and was fascinated by this new way of solving problems. She was reminded of fun chemistry demonstrations and enrolled at the Saarland University in Chemistry. Despite low confidence in her English, Karoline pursued a semester abroad and came to the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston. Delighted by the amazingly supportive mentorship at the center, she decided to return for her Ph.D. in Chemistry. She has been working there as researcher and student mentor ever since. Karoline's passion for science outreach grew over the years and now she takes great pleasure in organizing presentations and demonstrations of superconductivity.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Susie's mom has been ill, and now she's on the mend, but she seems to have a bigger problem on her hands--namely an infestation of raccoons INSIDE her house. We talk about the doofus who sat his buns down on a Swaroski crystal chair at a museum and destroyed it. We discuss Barbara Walters, her ambition, and why she was kind of a jerk to women despite being a trailblazer at the same time. We debate whether we should start a "chichi chat," and why showing your body off to other women can be empowering. We hear about the lifelike dolls in Brazil that are making people mad, and how the women who collect (and play with) them are mocked, yet no one thinks its weird that men have similarly infantile and strange hobbies. TALK TO ME, TEXT ITBrian Kohberger's sudden guilty plea sent shockwaves through the true crime community this week. The Idaho murder suspect opted for a deal that removes the death penalty from consideration—a move suggesting prosecutors had amassed overwhelming evidence against him. While this brings some closure, many questions remain about what prompted this last-minute decision that abruptly cancels what would have been one of the most closely watched trials in recent memory.Meanwhile, the Sean "Diddy" Combs trial has reached jury deliberations, though not without immediate drama. Just an hour into deliberations, jurors reported that one member "cannot perform his duties"—raising questions about the integrity of the process. The disturbing evidence presented, including video footage of alleged violence against former girlfriend Cassie, leaves us wondering whether justice will be served in this high-profile case involving allegations of abuse, trafficking, and intimidation.Beyond these headline-grabbing cases, we're tracking concerning developments in transgender rights legislation, both domestically and internationally. The Supreme Court has rejected several pro-transgender rulings following their decision to uphold Tennessee's ban on certain medical treatments, while courts in other countries take dramatically different approaches. Most heartbreaking is the update from Boulder, where an 82-year-old victim of an anti-Semitic firebomb attack has succumbed to her injuries, reminding us of the deadly consequences of hate that often fade too quickly from public consciousness. And in what might be the most bizarre crime story of the week: a Massachusetts man's fatal stabbing of his mother's boyfriend over how steaks were being prepared serves as a disturbing reminder of how quickly ordinary disagreements can escalate to deadly violence. The 41-year-old perpetrator, still living with his mother, reportedly "snapped" during the argument—a tragic case that raises questions about dependency, anger management, and the factors that transform domestic tensions into homicide. What's your take on these cases? Do any of them strike you as particularly significant or troubling?
