Welcome to "Human Talk" with your host Andrew Lane Cummins. Relax, stay awhile and open up your ears and mind to the following humans as they talk. Whether they speak from the subjective or the objective, all humans are welcome here on "Human Talk."
It was a pleasure to feature Justin Taylor here on "Human Talk." I first met Justin while interviewing his metal band "Wolfstar" on my music podcast "indie-vidually." Justin is a great writer, and a really interesting and all around nice guy. His stories are not what you'd expect at the end, and I am here for it. He shares two he wrote here on the podcast, as well as a hilarious one he experienced in real life with a friend.
I had a great in person and socially distanced conversation with an old friend from my childhood, Bo Davis. Bo has been on "Human Talk" several times, in fact, even being the guest on the first episode I posted. He recently moved to the city I live in, Lexington, Kentucky, and I had to have him in the studio. We discuss many interesting topics, but mainly dabble in nihilism, applied philosophy, finding your own personal truths, and he shared some cool news involving the publishing of some poems he has written. I was happy to have Bo on the podcast again, and am looking forward to having him on more in the future.
I'm happy to have my close friend and one of my favorite musicians Mason Henry on for this episode of "Human Talk." Mason is a band director/music educator, and I thought it would be interesting to interview him about the challenges of teaching kids during a global pandemic, considering the risks of Covid-19, since it is spread through aerosols, and the bread and butter of playing band music is blowing through horns and woodwind instruments. Mason is a trooper, and I'm proud of him for staying optimistic during this pandemic, and continuing to educate middle schoolers throughout. Mason loves music, and it is evident, because he lives it. I have jammed with and known Mason for 9 years and counting, and I can't wait to record another album with him in the future.
Agriculture is a huge part of your life whether you realize it or not. Food doesn't just appear on the shelves of your local Kroger just like that. There's a long, calculated and very arduous process behind every bit of the food that you eat. Bo Flick, who's no stranger to this podcast, is my guest for this episode with a focus on agriculture, mainly sustainable agriculture. Bo informs us that there's a lot to the process, goes over some basic history of agriculture in America, and shares about his love for sustainable agriculture, as well as gives some tips for those who might be interested in doing it themselves. I learned a lot, and you can too, so kick back, relax and enjoy the following conversation I had with Bo about sustainable agriculture.
I'm happy to welcome back Crystal Jewell to the show. She was my second featured guest right after I started the podcast back in March. Crystal is studying cognitive psychology and neuroscience at Iowa State University, and I have to say, she is in to some really cool stuff that I am as well. In this episode, we talk in depth about Shamanism, Animism, consciousness, etc. Crystal had a lot of interesting things to share, as well as some deep insights about the nature of life itself. I felt smarter after having spoken to her, and that's not a joke!
Out of all the episodes I have done since I started "Human Talk" back in March, the ones dealing with the paranormal and UFO's have been, and continue to be, my most listened to episodes. Since it's Halloween, and people, myself included, love this stuff, I present to you the Halloween Paranormal Special. John Granstaff, who I had on the podcast back in the spring, dropped the names of two guys that he is on a paranormal investigating team with. The team is "War Party Paranormal South," and the dudes are Eric Vanderlaan and Tim Arnwine. Both told some very compelling and interesting stories, but Eric focused most of his talking on the tech side of paranormal investigating, and Tim spoke about his book he released this year called "Ghost Hunting: Getting Started."
This is the last episode of the "3 Favorite Movies" series. For this one, my guests are Bo Flick and Raynoldo Ayala, who are no strangers to the podcast. This one turned out to spark some very deep conversations, as well as some funny and honest moments.
This is the first episode of a series about people's 3 favorite movies of all time. My guests for this episode are Travis Reams, Cory Roof and David Carner, all from Kentucky. Who doesn't love movies?
This is the final episode of the 3 part poetry series. It was an honor and a privilege to host these last three episodes with some very talented people from across the USA. This episode features the voices of Patrick Stafford and Bo Davis. Be sure to subscribe!
This is episode 2 of a 3 part poetry series featuring some very cool and talented people from around the U.S. This episode features the voices of Danny Granstaff, Crystal Jewell and Hannah Ayala. They each chat with me about their lives, why poetry is so important to them, their influences, and they read poems written by themselves or others.
Poetry is the focus of the next few episodes of "Human Talk." There isn't a single definition I can give that adequately sums up what poetry is, but I can say that it helps us observe, make sense of, and appreciate the world around us, whether it be written or spoken. I am by no means a poet myself, although I do write songs, but I wanted to gather the unique voices of some poets for one episode of the podcast. Not surprisingly, when I put out some feelers on Facebook to see if people were interested, several poets from different parts of the country responded, so I had to make this a 3 part series. Episode one features the voices of Griggori Tyler Taylor, Addison Moore and Erica Furman. They each chat with me about their lives, why poetry is so important to them, their influences, and they read poems written by themselves or others. Put some coffee or tea on, relax, and enjoy this spoken art.
What used to be a taboo subject to talk about over the years has become a lot more common place lately. Accounts of UFO's have been drawn, written about and passed down through folklore and the like since the beginning of time. UFO's, or "unidentified flying objects," have captivated our attention in the movies and other mediums, but just what are they? Are they benevolent or malevolent extra terrestrials just passing through? Are they government experiments us simpletons know next to nothing about? I think they're a bit of all of the aforementioned. On this episode of "Human Talk," I tell one of my UFO stories that transpired over the course of a summer night in 2011 with my friend Nick Young, who was driving the car in which we experienced the sightings. Also telling their stories are Bo Flick, Raynaldo Ayala and Tj Ralston.
This is a very special edition of "Human Talk." For this episode, five people from Kentucky tell their best ghost stories that they lived through once upon a time. Bo Flick, Michael Vinson, Tj Ralston, David Carner and Baelei Lloyd were gracious enough to share their experiences with me, and with you, the listener. Turn the lights down low, settle in, and relax, unless of course you're listening to this while driving, or doing something else that requires your full attention. Welcome to "Human Talk: Kentucky Ghosts."
I'm very excited to kick off a series of paranormal and ghost story episodes of "Human Talk." For this first episode, I spoke to John Granstaff, who is a paranormal investigator and a part of "War Party Paranormal," which is a team of advanced technical investigators in the area of paranormal research based in South Florida. John filled me in on some of the ins and outs of paranormal investigation, including gear, the mission and reasons people investigate, the dangers of it, and the common stigma behind it all. I was humbled to have John tell me his personal stories of intimate paranormal experiences from his childhood and adult life, as well as through being a paranormal investigator for "War Party Paranormal." Buckle your seat belts, folks, this is a great episode!
For this very interesting and third episode of "Human Talk," I spoke to Crystal Jewell, a very cool and intelligent young lady studying cognitive psychology and neuroscience at Iowa State University. We spoke at length about mindfulness and creativity, their effects on the brain, cognition, as well as about mental health, and how all of it is intertwined. Also discussed towards the end of the podcast was the therapeutic usage of psychedelics and how they influence the brain, as well as how they fit into the framework of all the aforementioned. Crystal was a great conversation and I'm certain she will do great things within the realm of her studies and beyond.
For this very first episode of "Human Talk," my old buddy Bo Davis is my featured guest. Bo and I grew up in Western Kentucky together, and had many a good time there. This episode was originally recorded in December as he was on the road to move to Denver, Colorado, but I am finally just now able to get it out there. We talk about of ton of things, sharing philosophical insights, our histories, a glimpse into how each of us came into ourselves, among many other topics.
