Ohio State's first big game of the season has arrived, and the Buckeyes look to be hitting their stride at the right time. The Buckeyes face a big step up in competition this week against Notre Dame, which will serve as this year's first real test of how good Ohio State actually is. That said, the Buckeyes are entering the game with momentum on their side after looking the part of an elite team in their dominant 63-10 win over Western Kentucky this past weekend.Ohio State's offense certainly elevated its game against the Hilltoppers, yet it was the defense who impressed us most as the Silver Bullets held Western Kentucky to only 10 points while scoring 14 points themselves. And while Western Kentucky isn't nearly as complete of a team as Notre Dame is, we believe the Buckeyes‘ performance against the Hilltoppers showed more than simply taking advantage of an overmatched opponent. That said, this week's game will mean going against both a much more complete offense and a much stouter defense than Ohio State faced in any of its first three games. Notre Dame looks more dangerous than it was when it lost 21-10 to Ohio State last year, and the Fighting Irish sound ready to play with a more aggressive mindset than they did in Ohio Stadium a year ago.Is Ohio State prepared for that challenge, and will the Buckeyes bring a win back from South Bend? We like Ohio State's chances, but neither of us expects a victory to come easily. Here's what we're talking about on this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays: 1:11: Ohio State played its best against what might be the best team it's played so far 2:33: Ohio State's offensive performance was impressive, but its defensive performance was even better 5:16: The Buckeyes found the offensive rhythm they needed with Kyle McCord as starting quarterback 9:20: The offensive line and the running game also got going against Western Kentucky 11:43: Ohio State had only 60 plays for the second straight week, but that didn't hold it back this time 15:20: The defense showed it could continue to limit big plays against an explosive passing offense 16:26: Tyleik Williams is emerging as a star 18:23: Ohio State's defensive ends were far more disruptive against WKU (even without sacks) 21:14: Josh Proctor solidifies standing as starting free safety with another strong performance 23:09: Denzel Burke is playing like an All-American cornerback 26:11: Jordan Hancock struggled early but showed promising improvement vs. Malachi Corley 29:01: Tommy Eichenberg, Steele Chambers looking like one of nation's best linebacker tandems 32:23: Allowing only 20 points in three games is impressive no matter who you've played 33:52: Ohio State is more confident now than it was three weeks ago, but so is Notre Dame 40:07: Notre Dame's offense is far more complete than any Ohio State has faced this season 42:49: Kyle McCord faces his first big-game test against a pass defense that's been stout 45:38: We expect both teams' final scores to be in the twenties and thirties 48:45: We‘re both feeling 60% confident that Ohio State will win this game 52:56: This may not be a make-or-break game for Ohio State, but it has major CFP implications 55:58: While Ohio State looked great in Week 3, most of the other top-ranked teams didn't 58:20: Michael Penix Jr. and Washington look like Heisman and playoff contenders 1:00:32: The SEC isn't looking like the power it usually is 1:03:26: Ohio State vs. Notre Dame headlines a great Week 4 in college football

At long last, the Buckeyes finally looked like the Buckeyes. While Western Kentucky might not be the strongest test, it was at least nice to see Ohio State playing football that resembles what we've seen from the Buckeyes in recent years. The 63-10 win was a comprehensive one, although it wasn't without its bumps in the early going. In the end, the improving Ohio State offensive line did well and the defense continues to look good. Heck, they even came up with some defensive touchdowns in this one. We break down the lopsided win with all of the key plays and performers and check back on our score predictions and picks to click to see how we did. We actually did well this week, although we underestimated Ohio State's ability to improve and score points. After the recap, we were joined by Brendan McAlinden of the One Foot Down blog, which covers Notre Dame. Brendan's encyclopedic knowledge of the Fighting Irish helps get you ready for Saturday's Top 10 showdown in South Bend. After our discussion with Brendan, we toured the other results from the weekend around the Big Ten. Sparty seems to be in trouble, Wisconsin is shaky at times, Northwestern is bad, and Rutgers and Maryland are both halfway to bowl eligibility. Finally, we looked at the matchup with Notre Dame and chose the players we pick to click and made our score predictions for Saturday. We're expecting a tight game and a little bit lower scoring matchup than your usual Ohio State contest. We'll check back next week to see how we did in predicting this highly anticipated game between two of college football's true bluebloods. We'll be here with you every week from now until the end of the 2023 Ohio State football season. We'd love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email. Half of the Big 10 quarterbacks played their worst games of the season this weekend. Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy threw 3 interceptions in the Wolverines win over Bowling Green. Nittany Lions quarterback Drew Allar played a mediocre game for Penn State. Good thing Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer was worse when he threw 4 interceptions. Iowa Hawkeyes quarterback Cade McNamara threw two picks and barely tallied 100 yards in Iowa's win over Western Michigan.  Michigan State Spartans quarterback Noah Kim only completed 12 passes in their 41-7 loss to Michael Penix Jr. and the Washington Huskies. The Minnesota Golden Gophers wasted a nice running game and some fairly good defense against the North Carolina Tar Heels because quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis cannot create downfield.    Week 3 did see some worthy quarterback play, though. Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord threw three touchdown passes vs Western Kentucky. The Buckeyes get ready for a big game against Notre Dame next!  Tanner Mordecai crafted some nifty runs to lead the Wisconsin Badgers over Georgia Southern. Maryland Terps quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa threw for 342 yards and a touchdown in their win over Virginia on Friday.  Plus, keep an eye on the Nebraska Huskers quarterback situation. Turnover prone Jeff Sims sat out Saturday's win vs Northern Illinois. Meanwhile Heinrich Haarberg played well in his place.  Finally, we cap things off with our Top 10 Big 10 observations this past weekend with Craig Shemon on Locked on Big 10.    Connect on Twitter:  https://twitter.com/talkbig10  Website: https://talkbig10.com     Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverine's Quarterback JJ McCarthy had a "Semi Final vs. TCU" melt down on Saturday in what could have been an upset, if not for a struggling third string quarterback, in the Michigan vs. Bowling Green match up. Was it just a bad week for Go Blue? Or is JJ massively overrated? Also, Kyle McCord and the Ohio State Buckeyes were hot in a week where most were not. Does Ohio State Football Coach Ryan Day have a stud in the making in Columbus? The level of competition on Ohio State's schedule is about to take a significant step up as the program got through its first three weeks 3-0. A 63-10 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday was about solidifying that two deep and building momentum toward the future. That mission can be deemed a success. Certainly the score suggests the game wasn't particularly competitive, but the stats and individual performances on both sides of the ball suggest the Buckeyes took a big step forward. Kyle McCord was incredibly efficient, completing 19-of-23 passes for 318 yards and three touchdowns. He connected on a couple of really long throws and routinely hit receivers in perfect rhythm. It wasn't a flawless performance from McCord, but it was darn close. Marvin Harrison Jr. ended the day with five catches for 126 yards and a touchdown, while Emeka Egbuka caught four passes for 57 yards and two scores. But equally as impressive was the defensive side of the ball. The Silver Bullets recorded eight tackles for loss, six pass break ups, forced three fumbles, intercepted two passes and scored two touchdowns. In both respects, it was the kind of performance the Buckeyes needed as they get ready to head to South Bend next weekend. Brendan Gulick and Anthony Moeglin break it down next with their Instant Analysis from today's huge win! Join the guys live every week day morning at 7 AM to talk Ohio State football. On LGHL Instant Recap Pods, Land-Grant Holy Land writers break down Ohio State games just minutes after the action ends. They bring you the biggest stats, storylines, and moments of the game before the players make it back to the locker room. After a somewhat shaky start to the game on Saturday, the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes absolutely blew the doors off of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers to the tune of a 63-10 victory. Kyle McCord looked every part of a Buckeye starting quarterback going for 318 yards on 19-of-23 passing. Marvin Harrison Jr. was -- unsurprisingly -- the biggest recipient of those passes, wracking up 126 yards and a touchdown, but Emeka Egbuka was also instrumental in the victory as he accounted for two Buckeye TDs. On the ground, TreVeyon Henderson also had a big day rushing for a pair of scores and Chip Trayanum also had one as well. The offense felt like it finally figured out the best way to operate with someone who wasn't C.J. Stroud at the helm. After an early fumble, McCord looked confident and in control of the offense and had an impressive day before giving way to Devin Brown in the fourth quarter. The defense also came to play, holding one of the most prolific passing offenses in college football to just 204 yards through the air and 284 overall. They also delivered WKU quarterback Austin Reed his first sack and interception of the year. In total, the Buckeye had four takeaways, including a pair that went for scores. Overall, it was about as good of a final tuneup game as you could get before heading to South Bend next weekend. The latest episode of Land-Grant Holy Land's flagship podcast is here! Join LGHL's Josh Dooley and Chuck Holmes as they discuss Ohio State football, recruiting, and much, much more! Come for the hot takes, stay for the warm ones. On this episode of “Hangout in the Holy Land,” Josh and Chuck discuss Ohio State's first dominant performance of the season, as well as the Week 3 college football slate which saw several (other) top-10 teams ‘play with their food' and fail to take care of business in impressive fashion. The Buckeyes are good again! And so is Kyle McCord, as well as the OSU defense. In reality, Saturday's game against Western Kentucky is or was what fans of the Scarlet and Gray had been hoping for all season. The hosts are cautiously optimistic that momentum carries over to next weekend and massive matchup with Notre Dame. Elsewhere, you know who's not good again!? Alabama... Maybe. The Hangout Boys saw several lackluster performances outside of Columbus yesterday, and they think it is due to CFB's growing quarterback problem. Early in the pod, the guys talk QB movement and failure, and why Ryan Day deserves credit for developing players at the most important position on the field. Josh and Chuck close the episode with Winners, Losers, and Fantasy MVPs, a tradition like no other. Please make sure to like, rate, review, and subscribe to the podcast! And as always, Go Bucks! Ohio State spent the past week picking a quarterback and taking the necessary steps toward preparing for a schedule that was about to get much tougher. Those actions showed in a 63-10 win over Western Kentucky where the offense looks closer to what we've come to expect from the Buckeyes and the defense wreaked havoc for 60 minutes. It was a good way to punctuate the end of what has felt like the college football version of a preseason. But that's over now and all that matters is figuring out what we can take from the dominant win and apply to what is coming next Saturday when OSU heads to Notre Dame. On this postgame episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Nathan Baird and Andrew Gillis explore just that. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk. Learn more about your ad choices. On this Friday Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Nathan Baird and Andrew Gillis break down Ohio State's home game against Western Kentucky and make their picks. Here's what gets discussed: The bulk of the conversation is centered around a question from a text subscriber: 'What should we consider success against this WKU high-powered offense?'  Then we flip that question around on the offense discussing what success looks like for a unit that is locked in on Kyle McCord being its starting quarterback Then per usual, Stephen kicks the two off the pod and invites Tyler Shoemaker to discuss the game from a gambling perspective. Then the trio returns to make their game picks. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
