This week I was inspired by the founders of @GirlTrek, and their 21-day walking meditation project remembering Black women in History. Each day we celebrate and remember our foremothers... So far my dedication to this walk has given me knowledge, reclamation and a personal commitment to radical self care. This week, I recorded myself during my walk remembering Audre Lorde, black poet, feminist and activist. As I reflect on Queen Audre Lorde and the imprint she left on Black HERstory, I recall the importance of using my voice as a tool of radical self care, redefining what protest is for me and sharing my experience of the countless losses of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Ahmaud Arbery. On this week's episode, Bri speaks to guest Kristen @thepolecologist about her many roles as a mother, Psychologist, wife, and Pole dancer. We touch on her experience with Postpartum Mood disorder and how pole has allowed her to reclaim herself and her body and given her the ability to explore sensuality and sexuality as a mother. Most important, we talk about destigmatization of the "sexy mama". It's so hard to be vulnerable as a Black Wombyn. We hear: "strong black woman" and "independent black woman" and believe we have to move in isolation vs. community. When really, independence is an illusion! As said by Latham Thomas of Mama Glow, "humans evolve to be dependent"! So listen as Bri (Big Mama) and her Doula Sisters: Perpetual @perpetualanastasia, Surrenity, and Tanzye @tanzyehill talk about their organic connection and giving themselves permission to be open to receive, reciprocate and love in community. She's one of the few folks on social media sharing her truth and being who she is 100% of the time. She keeps mamas reminded that it's okay to not to have their sh*t together! "If you're a hot mess, then come over it's a whole bunch of us". We also get into the unsupportive responses of their parents after sharing what happened to them. Don't forget to share, subscribe & review this episode! Tune in to listen to his experience in their relationship and to hear the multiple anonymous men that shared if they would date a single mom (or not) at the end of the episode!
This episode NiNi & I chat about the complicated subject of dating as a single mama(or the lack there of). We had so many questions, that remain unanswered lol. Is there hope for us? How do we get passed the mom-bod insecurities in the bedroom? Is it "easier" to just get back with an ex? One thing I realized this episode is, NINI & I DON'T GOT THE ANSWERS LMAO. *DISCLAIMER I do not own rights to this clip* Terrie Williams & Marc Lamont Hill, snippet from "Depression in Our World" Full Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxErFNqlR9E Please bare with me this week I was extremely open touching on the sensitive topic of my depression I experienced last week. As mothers we have to show up as a number of roles. We are mothers, doctors, therapists, etc to our children. But what is the result when not taking care of ourselves? Last week I was going and going and GOING until I BROKE. I fell into a state of depression for 7 longgg days. It's a challenge to feel safe to be vulnerable as a black woman and mother- but I feel safe on this platform. It served as an audio journal entry for me. I've been at war with my mind and on this episode I invite you in more than I have before. You'll hear me get emotional...almost to tears. So I ask, bare with your girl!
