“KinKeeper” Where Did All the Big Mamas Go? “Is the African-American Community Fully Converted to Society's Individualistic Mindset?” Tonight's conversation ruptures the fake simplicity of “family talk” and drags us directly into the psychological autopsy of a civilization losing its emotional loadbearing structures in real time. Somewhere between social media, survival capitalism, hyper-individualism, therapy language, algorithmic reality, burnout culture, economic exhaustion, and digital self-construction, the African-American community may have quietly drifted from a collectivistic nervous system into a privatized survival mentality where emotional responsibility increasingly feels heavier than love itself. Big Mama represented more than an elder. She functioned as infrastructure. Emotional regulation. Historical continuity. Nervous-system stabilization. Spiritual accountability. Kinship memory. Conflict mediation. Intergenerational translation. She carried people through grief, addiction, betrayal, financial collapse, violence, depression, church hurt, infidelity, and psychological fragmentation without constantly announcing her exhaustion to the world. Modern culture now produces people who require isolation to recover from ordinary interaction itself. That contradiction deserves examination. How did a people who survived slavery, segregation, lynching, economic exclusion, redlining, and collective trauma through communal interdependence gradually become psychologically reorganized around “leave me alone,” “protect my peace,” “I don't owe anybody anything,” and emotionally gated self-preservation? How did boundaries become more aspirational than belonging? How did convenience become more valuable than continuity? How did the algorithm become more emotionally influential than the elder? This generation possesses unprecedented access to information while simultaneously struggling to sustain community, patience, relational endurance, and collective emotional stewardship. Many people now possess followers instead of villages, platforms instead of porches, visibility instead of intimacy, therapeutic vocabulary instead of nervous-system resilience, and personalized feeds instead of kinship identity. The deeper question waiting beneath tonight's topic vibrates with terrifying weight: Did Big Mama disappear? Or did modern society psychologically condition people out of the capacity, endurance, sacrifice, empathy, and spiritual stamina required to become her? Questions to consider: When the Black family stopped gathering around the dinner table and started gathering around personalized algorithms, did technology quietly replace Big Mama as the architect of values? If previous generations inherited identity through kinship, church, neighborhood, ritual, and oral storytelling, what happens when modern identity gets outsourced to screens, influencers, and digital spectatorship? Has social media transformed community from a lived experience into a performance economy where visibility matters more than responsibility? Did smartphones make communication constant while simultaneously destroying emotional intimacy? If Big Mama once represented a living archive of memory, what happens when Google replaces elders as the first source of wisdom? Has technology democratized knowledge while simultaneously eroding reverence for lived experience? When children can access millions of strangers online but barely know their cousins, what kind of social evolution are we actually witnessing? Did the African-American community survive historical oppression through collective interdependence only to enter modernity and voluntarily adopt hyper-individualism as success? Has the language of “freedom” quietly become the language of disconnection? If social media monetizes attention, outrage, desirability, and self-display, can communal consciousness survive inside an economy built on personal branding?

This year was definitely the year for tall women on social media. And I'm HERE FOR IT. Starting with the Big Mama trend, tall women have been showing up online embracing their height and size, and other people have been eating it up, too, saying that tall women are beautiful and so underrated. Like, yes, yes, we are. The Big Mama trend has led to a whole slew of smaller trends where tall women are embracing their height. I will say it's died down a teeny bit, but now the tall girlies are trending again, but for something different. There's a bit of drama and content highlighting one of the struggles we face as tall women. And I kinda wanna give my thoughts on them, so make sure you tune in to the full episode! Buy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/atallgirlspodcast Subscribe to A Tall Girl's Newsletter: https://atallgirlspodcast.beehiiv.com/subscribeLet's stay connected: https://beacons.ai/atallgirlspodcast Leave a review and let me know how tall you are: https://atallgirlspodcast.com/reviews

Not All Hood: The Weekly DropIn this episode, Candace Kelley leads a timely conversation unpacking the headlines shaping culture, housing, and civic life. The show begins with a discussion on the elimination of the penny and how price rounding quietly impacts cash users, raising questions about equity and who bears the hidden cost of everyday policy decisions. The conversation then turns to the viral Washington, D.C. Airbnb squatter case, examining tenant rights, housing loopholes, and the role of community accountability. The panel explores how legal gray areas, short-term rentals, and rising housing insecurity intersect, and what this case reveals about broader challenges in urban housing across the United States.Historian and educator Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries joins the show to connect Black history to present-day civic engagement. He discusses systemic racism as a continuous structure rather than a repeating cycle, the importance and limitations of voting, and how protests, boycotts, and grassroots organizing have historically driven social change. Dr. Jeffries also reflects on the cultural responsibility of hip-hop, the impact of commercialization, and how public conversations around figures like Sean “Diddy” Combs fit into a larger reckoning around power, accountability, and influence. The episode also addresses the rise of misinformation online, including viral celebrity hoaxes and unverified claims, highlighting the importance of media literacy in an era driven by algorithms and outrage.Comedian Big Mama closes the episode with humor and sharp commentary on the week's most confusing and outrageous stories, offering levity while underscoring the absurdity and seriousness of the news cycle. This episode of Not All Hood: The Weekly Drop blends news analysis, historical insight, cultural critique, and humor to help listeners better understand today's headlines through context, clarity, and conversation.Topics CoveredThe end of the penny and price roundingHousing crisis and the Washington, D.C. Being tall is absolutely amazing, but it can also be annoying at times…No one can deny that fact lol. One of the most annoying things is the clothing situation and not being able to find pants that reach our ankles, long sleeves that reach our wrists, shoes that are big enough, etc. Honestly, that's probably the #1 problem tall people experience, especially women. People and their stares, comments, jokes, and backhanded compliments: those things can also get annoying or even make us insecure. Spaces like bathrooms, cars, airplanes, and kitchens aren't the most tall-friendly, making some of the most basic life tasks very uncomfortable or hard to do. These are just a few of the struggles. Recently, more and more tall women have been speaking up on social media about the things they love about being tall, especially with trends like the Big Mama trend. However, there's been a bit of a shift. There's a new trend where the tall girlies are now expressing their insecurities and frustrations surrounding their height. This kinda makes you wonder: is the tall girl confidence real, or is it just a trend that's dying out? Well, we're answering this question in today's episode, so be sure to tune in!

My grandmother affectionately known as "Bigmama" would always say, "People don't have to be nice." This statement usually came as a result of someone enacting an act of kindness. Such a reflection may have been a result of both gratitude and rarity. Grateful someone showed kindness, and the perception that it is indeed rare for people to be kind. In times like these, is being a nice a rarity? Is being cruel, uncaring, and unkind fashionable? Let us examine ourselves and ponder which culture to which we are contributing; cruelty or kindness. Please let it be the latter. It helps when people are nice. www.talkingwithdrtoy.com

Daniel kicks off the episode with tales of a surprise celebrity encounter during a Fourth of July run—turns out, podcast legend Larry Vader was in Orlando, leading to an epic lunch with Vader and Big Mama (fresh off a Disney cruise). Meanwhile, Adam returns from a whirlwind trip to Scotland, regaling Daniel with stories of white-knuckle driving on the “wrong” side of the road, run-ins with overly helpful Kias, and lessons in Scottish geography (including why “Inverness” means what it does).Travel woes and culture shocks give way to a whiskey distillery adventure, complete with overpriced taxis, arbitrary “danger lines,” and a crash course in barley anatomy. Adam and Daniel muse on the mysteries of whiskey tasting and swap thoughts on the finer points of smoky vs. sweet spirits—ultimately agreeing that sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar (even when it's whiskey). The duo dig into tech talk, AI industry hype, and the rise of “context engineering” for working with language models, with Daniel describing his move to structured XML prompts and providing a little inside baseball on how AI models really work.Later, the “Contact” segment features a bumper crop of listener texts and voicemails—celebrity death updates, Pokémon rain gear theories, debates about banana reports, and Kathy Bacon's grocery bill deep-dives. The News Game makes a triumphant return with questions about Texas floods, viruses, and James Gunn's new Superman movie. To top it all off, Adam demos his new Ray-Ban “nerd glasses,” and Daniel gives a PSA about the real culprits behind your summer electric bill (hint: it's not your LED light bulbs). As always, it's a perfectly chaotic blend of tech, travel, trivia, and the signature banter fans love.Email: Contact@MixMinusPodcast.comVoice/SMS: 707-613-3284
