Thrilled and honored to welcome Jessica Lee Goldyn as our 100th episode guest!  Jessica is an actress, singer and dancer known for playing Val/Cassie in the revival of A Chorus and the documentary Every Little Step! Her other Broadway credits include Nini in Moulin Rouge, Finding Neverland and Hello Dolly. Some of her other credits include Chicago, On the Town at City Center Encores!, Sweet Charity and the film King of Staten Island. Jessica was also a part of the 50th Anniversary of A Chorus Line and she is the creator of The Source NYC and teaches at Steps on Broadway.We talk with Jessica about the importance of keeping the legacy of A Chorus Line alive, her love of teaching, our mutual love of Ragtime and much more!

Today on the show, I am joined by two magical women whose work has woven into my world in a special way. In the first half of the show I get to speak with Odeya Nini, a Los Angeles based interdisciplinary vocalist and composer. At the locus of her interests are performance practices, gesture, textural harmony, tonal animation, and the illumination of minute sounds, in works spanning chamber music to vocal pieces and collages of musique concrète. Her solo vocal work extends the dimension and expression of the voice and body, creating a sonic and physical panorama of silence to noise and tenderness to grandeur.Odeya's work has been presented at venues and festivals across the US and internationally, such as The LA Phil, Merkin Concert Hall, The Broad Museum, and MONA from Los Angeles to Australia, Mongolia, Madagascar and Vietnam. Her solo performance of I See You was included in the The New Yorker's 10 notable performances of 2021. Odeya is also a member of the 3 time Grammy nominated ensemble Wild Up and is the founder of Free The Voice, leading vocal sound meditations, workshops and retreats exploring the transformative and healing qualities of embodying the voice.Odeya holds a BFA from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music and an MFA in composition from California Institute of the Arts. While she believes any medium can be used to communicate our creativity, reverence and inherent connection, she is especially devoted to the realms of nourishment inspired by that which activates and attunes the inherent potential of our bodies as instrument, vessel and channel.She has worked as a creative director in the fashion industry, as a team manager for the world's largest wild simulated ginseng farm, in botanical product development and manufacturing, as well as a farmer and as a cook. The guidance of nature has led her home to her calling as a conduit for plant medicines to be regeneratively utilized in this world. All being is relatedness and at heart, we all desire to be heard, seen and respected. Vyakula vya viwandani vinazidi kuongezeka na kuchukua nafasi ya matunda, mboga mboga na protini katika wakati ambao lishe ina jukumu muhimu katika ukuaji wa watoto, ukuaji wa utambuzi na afya ya akili.”Nini kifanyike?Ili kukabiliana na hali hii, UNICEF inazitaka serikali kuchukua hatua madhubuti ikiwemo kupiga marufuku uuzaji wa vyakula visivyo na lishe shuleni, kudhibiti matangazo ya vyakula vyenye sukari na mafuta, na kuweka sera za kusaidia familia kupata chakula bora na chenye lishe.Kwa mujibu wa UNICEF, bila hatua za haraka, gharama za kiafya na kiuchumi zitakazotokana na tatizo la utipwatipwa wa utotoni zinatarajiwa kupindukia dola trilioni 4 kila mwaka ifikapo mwaka 2035.Zipo juhudi za kupambana na hali hiyo ambazo zimeanza kuchukuliwa na baadhi ya nchi, mfano mzuri ni Mexico ambayo hivi karibuni imepiga marufuku uuzaji wa vyakula vilivyosindikwa na vile vyenye chumvi, sukari na mafuta mengi katika  maeneo ya shule za umma.

Notes and Links to Joan Silber's Work    Joan Silber was raised in New Jersey and received her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College, where she studied writing with Grace Paley. She moved to New York after college and has made it her home ever since. She holds an M.A. from New York University. She's written ten books of fiction--most recently, Mercy, out in fall 2025.  Secrets of Happiness was a Washington Post Best Book of the year and a Kirkus Reviews Best Fiction of the Year.  Improvement won The National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction and the PEN/Faulkner Award.  She also received the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story.  Her other works of fiction include Fools, longlisted for the National Book Award and finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award, The Size of the World, finalist for the Los Angeles Times Prize in Fiction, and Ideas of Heaven, finalist for the National Book Award and the Story Prize.  She's also written Lucky Us, In My Other Life, and In the City (to be reissued by Hagfish in 2026), and her first book, Household Words, won the PEN/Hemingway Award. She's the author of The Art of Time in Fiction, which looks at how fiction is shaped and determined by time, with examples from world writers.  Her short fiction has been chosen for the O. Henry Prize, Best American Short Stories, and the Pushcart Prize.  Stories have appeared in The New Yorker, Tin House, The Southern Review, Ploughshares, Zyzzyva, and other magazines. She's been the recipient of an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts. For many years Joan taught fiction writing at Sarah Lawrence College and in the Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers.  Joan lives on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, with Jolie, her rescued street dog from Taiwan, and she travels as often as she can, with a particular interest in Asia.
