I bought some second-hand chrome audio cassette-tapes (BASF, made in Germany) in a thrift-shop becuase they are increasingly hard to find, with the express purpose to dub some of my old vinyl collection onto ... So I put a Residents EP on one side but hadnt recorded on the other .. Being a second-hand tape, the other side was an ABC Rage TV Madonna special ... My 4-track player is able to play both sides simultaneously (one side playing backwards) and there we have it .... The Madonna Abused Tape Album .. Theres also Einsturzende Neubauten's Kolaps album (hence lots of Blixa's screaming later on) and some homemade keyboarding in there too ... I quite like some of the live versions of Madonna tracks in there, they give it a different feel than if they were purely the familiar studio versions. Once I digitised the tape, it found its way into rotation at the video shop I used to work at ...

The moment when I realised there were major problems with cinephilia and that it was holding back me and others as filmmakers and critics. Resentment has created hypocrisy in regards to the image and elitism has ironically lead to mediocrity.. I recorded this as phone message but hopefully it gets the point across.

Richard Wolstencroft unresigns from directing Melbourne Underground Film Festival and declares MUFF a "radical free speech event". Discusses independent filmmaking, censorship, Boyd Rice, Adrian Martin, Genre, group think and his high school media teacher.. http://www.muff.com.au/ Disclaimer: A few people have had a quiet "off-the-record" word with me about this podcast, that they are concerned by the very idea of me interviewing Richard Wolstencroft at all, even before hearing the podcast. But I will say the same thing here as I have in private - Richard has done plenty of important things for independent film while others wouldn't. To say I shouldn't interview Richard because he is "right wing" is as ridiculous as saying I shouldn't have interviewed my various left-wing guests for the same reason. Im less interested in the politics of film and more interested in people actually doing stuff. The living active culture of film and the personalities within it.
