For the latest Scots Whay Hae! podcast Ali spoke to returning guest, music journalist and writer Graeme Thomson to talk about his new book In Another World: The Four Seasons Of Talk Talk which is out now, published with New Modern.Graeme explains why he wanted to write about Talk Talk, the structure of the book, why he focuses on four featured albums, and what they mean to him, and the challenges in writing a book about a band who refuse to, or simply can't, talk about it.The two then discuss the band's early years, the personal nature of the book and how that weaves the story together, why the music which comes to mean the most to us is often about timing, before they go through those albums one by one.The conversation then turns to the enigma who was singer/songwriter Mark Hollis and the toll his working process was to take on all those involved, the myriad of influences, the importance of what was left out, Talk Talk's legacy, and who could possibly compare.Graeme Thomson is one of the finest music critics and writers around, and In Another World: The Four Seasons Of Talk Talk is not just the latest example, but one of his best. It works both as an introduction to, and, for those already familiar, a reimagining of, this mercurial band and their greatest works. It's a special book that makes you listen anew, but Graeme Thomson has managed to do just that and it was such a pleasure to be able to talk about Talk Talk in such detail and depth. For full details, including all the ways to listen, head to scotswhayhae.com

Talk Talk.

Talk Talk made just five albums, all written and recorded unconventionally and no-one's entirely sure how they did it. And in the last two decades of his life Mark Hollis released only 92 seconds of music. Lifelong admirer Graeme Thomson explores the band's endless mysteries in his memoir ‘In Another World: the Four Seasons of Talk Talk', and looks back here at the last hurrah of the days of studio extravagance, which includes … … why Traffic in 1967 was the Mark Hollis Holy Grail … “25 per cent of him never appeared above the surface” … the Talk Talk ‘human sampling' method – eg a few seconds of Danny Thompson, Steve Gadd or Larry Klein woven into the mix … “music made with the blindfold on” … the ‘80s press reaction to Mark's eulogies about Miles Davis, Stockhausen and Shostakovich … where you can hear Talk Talk in the music of Kate Bush … making records the way Kubrick made films … head music: how Spirit of Eden suits the rebirth of headphones … band lynchpin Tim Friese-Greene, producer of the Lion Sleeps Tonight! … what unlimited time and choice does to a studio bill … and the 92 seconds of music he made for the Kelsey Grammer TV series Boss. __________ Über diese Songs vom Album "The Colour Of Spring" sprechen wir im Podcast (17:22) – "Happiness Is Easy"(38:37) – "I Don't Believe In You"(45:06) – "Life's What You Make It"(50:12) – "Living In Another World"(01:00:34) – "Chameleon Day"__________ Alle Shownotes und weiterführenden Links zur Folge " The Colour Of Spring " findet ihr https://x.swr.de/s/talktalkcolourofspring __________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? Welcome to the Fore Golfers Network/Michigan Golf Live Podcast Ep 509 - The Future of the Rocket Classic with Mark Hollis What does the future hold for Detroit's PGA Tour event—and why does it matter so much to Michigan golf fans? In this episode of the Fore Golfers Network Podcast, host Bill Hobson sits down with Mark Hollis, Tournament Director of the Rocket Classic, to explore the past, present, and very uncertain future of the PGA Tour's lone stop in the state of Michigan. Hollis pulls back the curtain on what it truly takes to run a PGA Tour event, comparing the operation to "building a small city" from scratch each summer at Detroit Golf Club. With a newly renovated Donald Ross course, a brand-new late-July tournament date, and major upgrades to fan experience areas like Area 313, the Rocket Classic is positioning itself for a defining moment in 2026. The conversation dives into corporate sponsorship realities, hospitality demand, and the delicate balance between revenue generation and preserving the walkability and energy that fans love. Hollis also addresses the broader PGA Tour landscape, including the impact of LIV Golf, signature events, escalating purse demands, and how those pressures trickle down to tournaments like Detroit's. With the Rocket Classic contract expiring after 2026, Hollis explains what must fall into place for the event to continue—from PGA Tour alignment to sponsor ROI to community impact. He also shares optimism about player recruitment, the advantages of the new schedule window, and why Detroit remains a top-tier market capable of hosting elite golf. If you care about the future of professional golf in Michigan, the Rocket Classic's place on the PGA Tour calendar, and how major sporting events shape cities, this is a must-listen conversation. ---------------- Subscribe to the FGN Podcast Watch FGN videos on YouTube Check out our other sports pod: Church Pew Sports TEXT or CALL (989) 272-2383 to share your thoughts, comments, suggestions, and questions
