With over 15 years of experience spanning Insight, research, market intelligence, and voice of the customer, Jo arrives at Admiral fresh from a significant tenure at TalkTalk, where she helped build something that every Insight leader will recognise as the holy grail: a value log that quantified the real monetary impact of Insight on the business. It's the kind of initiative that doesn't just demonstrate worth; it changes the conversation entirely. Jo talks candidly about what she's learned from that experience and how it's shaped the Insight Leaders Playbook she's brought with her to Admiral, a practical framework for setting vision, building momentum, and embedding Insight where it matters most. Her approach is deliberate and structured, but what comes through just as strongly is her belief in the power of relationships. Stakeholder trust, she argues, isn't a nice-to-have; it's the foundation on which everything else is built. This is an episode full of honest, grounded advice for anyone stepping into a new Insight leadership role or looking to reposition an existing team. Jo's energy and clarity of purpose are infectious, and her journey at Admiral is only just beginning.   Please listen to find out more!   Topics Discussed Establishing a Value Log for Insight (3.58) Insight Leaders Playbook: Planning for Success(12.20) Prioritising Transformation Areas at Admiral (16.25) Embedding Insight into Business Processes (22.10) Advice for New Insight Leaders (26.47)   This is episode 90 of the Transforming Insight podcast.  If you have the ambition to transform your Insight team and the role it plays in your organisation, please tune in to future episodes. Richard Barbieri has been pushing the boundaries of synth-based music for almost 50 years. Japan may have originally been lumped in with the likes of Duran Duran and Ultravox, but they evolved in a way few bands outside of Talk Talk could even understand. After they ended and Richard evolved even further in groups like Dolphin Brothers and Rain Tree Crow, he was then snatched up by Steven Wilson and hopped on the Porcupine Tree train for a few more decades. He's continued to release music under various guises whenever he felt like it and he recently dropped a new solo album called Hauntings that shows him exploring even deeper.  He joins us this week to explain it all and discuss how he got from point A to Z in a hugely diverse career. Richard Barbieri in conversation with David Eastaugh  https://richardbarbieri.bandcamp.com/ ‘Hauntings' is Richard Barbieri's first studio album since 2021's ‘Under A Spell' and deepens the pensive, dark instrumental aesthetic of its predecessor. A diverse collection of immersive sound worlds, both dark and uplifting in equal measure, ‘Hauntings' is influenced by a nostalgia for the past and future, and for things that didn't happen yet still manage to haunt the mind and soul. What is real and what is simulation?   Richard Barbieri remains one of contemporary music's most distinctive voices. Emerging as a key architect of the late '70s/'80s synthesiser revolution with David Sylvian's art-rock ensemble Japan, his visionary synthesiser programming expanded the horizons of electronic music and left a lasting mark on artists from The Human League and Duran Duran to Gary Numan and Talk Talk. His subsequent and ongoing tenure with Steven Wilson's legendary progressive outfit Porcupine Tree across albums such as In Absentia (2002), Fear Of A Blank Planet (2007) and, most recently, Closure/Continuation (2022) further affirmed his status as one of the most intuitive and unique musicians of his generation.   The album finds Barbieri at the height of his powers, his deft keyboard and sonic architecture conjuring a shadowy, creeping Lovecraftian atmosphere. The music wanders through the streets of a gloomy lamp-lit Victorian London and drifts into grain-speckled snapshots of Belle Époque Paris. These journeys into the past are contrasted with nihilistic but euphoric forays into the future, “Traveler” and “A New Simulation” bristling with the itchy modern anxiety that often runs through his best work.   Contrasting the sound designs and electronics of Barbieri, the album features performances from renowned musicians Morgan Agren (drums and percussion), Percy Jones (bass guitar) and Luca Calabrese (trumpet).

__________ Über diese Songs vom Album "The Colour Of Spring" sprechen wir im Podcast (17:22) – "Happiness Is Easy"(38:37) – "I Don't Believe In You"(45:06) – "Life's What You Make It"(50:12) – "Living In Another World"(01:00:34) – "Chameleon Day"__________ Alle Shownotes und weiterführenden Links zur Folge " The Colour Of Spring " findet ihr https://x.swr.de/s/talktalkcolourofspring __________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? Talk dirty to me….But instead of roses or grand gestures… what if the sexiest words a mom can hear are:“I switched the laundry.”“I've got bedtime.”“Go lay down. I'll handle the kids.”In this Monday Mom Pep Talk, we're diving into the real reason support feels so attractive in motherhood. It's not about the chore, it's about not carrying the mental load alone. It's about feeling seen. Partnered. Supported. Safe.Motherhood comes with invisible labor…the appointments, the spirit days, the emotional temperature of the house, the constant mental checklist running in the background. And when someone steps in without being asked? That's intimacy. In this pep talk, I talk about:• Why we were never meant to do this alone• How shared responsibility builds connection• Why carrying all the plates isn't noble• And how receiving help is a skill we can learnIf you've ever felt like you're spinning all the plates and praying none crash…this episode is for you.Because sometimes the most romantic words in the world are:“I've got it.”Tune in, take a breath, and remember.. you don't have to carry motherhood alone.

It also looks at why Ray Tubes are suddenly on everyone's radar and what Jeremy's amp building class at the American Wireless Communication Museum teaches you that spec sheets never will.Along the way, we connect the dots between Talk Talk's obsessive studio craft, Miles Davis with Jimmy Cobb's unshakable timing, and the Tron soundtrack, while getting very real about tube amp safety; from blown parts to painful zaps, because high voltage does not care how experienced you think you are.Thank you to SVS and Shure for their support of our programming!https://www.svsound.comhttps://www.shure.comCredits:• Original intro music by The Arc of All. https://sourceoflightandpower.bandcamp.com• Voice Over Provided by Todd Harrell of SSP Unlimited. https://sspunlimited.com• Production by Mitch Anderson, Black Circle Studios. https://blackcircleradio.comDon't forget to check our website for daily updates on the latest electronics, news, recommendations, and deals on high-end audio, loudspeakers, earphones, TVs, and more.https://www.ecoustics.com#raytubes #vacuumtubes #audiovalves #vinylcommunity #audioloveyyc #budgetaudiophiler #blackcircleradio #ecoustics #hifi #audiophile #hometheater #listeningroom #musicindustry #analogaudio

Talkhouse Podcast

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast, we've paired up two songwriters who love to wander musically but whose recordings are tough to mistake for anyone else's. It's Luke Temple and Will Westerman. Temple has been making incredible records at a pretty solid clip since around 2005, first making a real splash as part of a trio called Here We Go Magic, whose four-album catalog is legendary in certain circles. But Temple has also recorded fantastic records under his own name, under the alias Art Feynman, and, more recently, with Luke Temple and the Cascading Moms. That name is a little funny, kind of like his music—there's humor but also a little bit of menace hiding underneath sounds that sometimes flirt with ‘70s soft-rock in the best ways. Check out “Echo Park Donut,” which is out this month on the new Cascading Moms record, Hungry Animal. The other half of today's chat, Will Westerman, invited Temple to play on his 2023 album An Inbuilt Fault, and as you'll hear they sound eager to meet and perhaps work together again. Westerman has been releasing music under his last name since 2020, crafting subtly mellow records that reveal something more intense when you listen to his lyrics. The third and latest Westerman album, A Jackal's Wedding, came out last fall, and it's another evolution in his sound—it's been compared to mellow greats like Talk Talk, Tindersticks, and Nick Drake, so if those names mean anything to you—and they should—give it a shot. Check out “Mosquito” from A Jackal's Wedding right here. This conversation between Temple and Westerman may have been the furthest geographically we've ever recorded: Temple was at home in Los Angeles and Westerman at home in Milan, where he recently moved after spending several years in Greece. These two talk about being recently married, about growing as artists and perhaps tricking yourself in the process, and about the very different places they now live. Enjoy. 0:00 – Intro 2:35 – Start of the chat 4:35 – On Los Angeles and gentrification in Echo Park 9:39 – Westerman on Milan, Greece, and learning new languages 13:20 – On Luke Temple's new album, Hungry Animal 19:50 – On tricking yourself to keep the creative process fresh 20:57 – On art and "the capitalist need to innovate" 24:50 – Comparing the musical heritage between the US and UK 28:25 – On the spirit of Jazz and Hip-Hop 30:38 – How technology caused the death of regionalism Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Will Westerman and Luke Temple for chatting. If you liked what you heard, please check out both of their great new records, and please follow Talkhouse on your favorite podcasting platform. We're just living that life, Von Dutch, cult classic, as we rank Charli XCX's hyperpop club record Brat! Its danceable melodies, carefree bite, and minimalist neon green aesthetic sparked a cultural movement in Brat Summer, and hits like 360, Apple, and Sympathy Is A Knife turned into certified Club Classics. Inspired by her early days in London's underground illegal rave scene, Brat sees Charli showing off striking vulnerability through crisp, energetic songs with memorable melodies. From relationships to generational trauma to impending motherhood (or even to just a good party song), this record really does it all.James & Connor are ready to Talk Talk about Charli's unique path to superstardom, from I Don't Care and Boom Clap to Wuthering Heights. The Mixtaper is so Julia as we ponder her homecoming coup, a sentimental vault track, Bratcoin, and even more VERY passionate fans during Fact Or Spin! Then we Rewind to 2024 and reminisce about Brat Summer as we work through these bite-sized pop beats. Where will Connor score Charli XCX compared to her fellow Album Of The Year nominees? James might even go so far as an on-the-spot redemption for this one!Did you catch the main metaphor in Apple? What foods would you make into footlongs? Are we your favorite reference? Welcome, welcome, welcome. This is the Badass Records podcast, and I'm pleased to let you know that Episode No. 196 features none other than Joel vs Joel's very own, Joel Stratton.Joel vs Joel's debut album, Smile in the Mirror, came out in August of last year, and Brad Smith (Episode No. 108) of Enigmatic Brunch Records was the wizard behind the curtains of making that happen. But let's not let that detract us from Joel.I am thankful for the opportunity to've sat with Joel and talked about his release, his approach, and, well, a few of his favorite records.I know. It's the same old stuff every week(ish) here, but that turns out to be the actual skinny, so...his list looked a little something like this:Talk Talk's The Colour of Spring (1986)Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002), WilcoElliott Smith's From a Basement on the Hill (2004)Tinks (2014), Pether Schlamb Anyway, please consider giving Joel an Instagram follow; you can find him at joelvs_joel_, and -- again -- his stuff is out there for both streaming and purchase. Check it.Thank you very much to both Joel and to anyone/everyone that supports the show.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio pieces found in this here episode; they ain't mines. I managed ta' lift 'em from the ranks of a dusty, forgotten bin in the corner of my uncle's barn in Republic, and I figured they was worth sharin', so here's the skinny: This is an R.L. Burnside tune. It's one of many fine, fine cuts he shared with the world. This one in particular's called, "Got Messed Up," and I snagged it from his phenomenal 2000 release, Wish I Was in Heaven Sitting Down, c/o Fat Possum Records. So there. Put that in your royalties pipe an' smoke it.

The first AM of the last month of 2025 hopefully sounds a bit less wintry than the world outside. Tune in for a throwback to Talk Talk's final album, new music from AM favourites like Chad VanGaalen, The Notwist, and Teen Daze, and a mix of genres from the ambient and experimental to the groovy and garage-y. Here's hoping it helps you ease into December.Playlist: Mount Maxwell - Water BabiesC.R. How do you help someone who is being pummeled by a persisting circumstantial or psychodynamic problem? Do you "advise" them? (Don't Do It - The Band, '72) Do you try to talk them out of it? (Again, don't -- Talk Talk, '82-'84) Do you avoid them? (Again, don't -- Animotion, '84. They won't let you, anyway.) What do you do? How do you actually help someone you love -- maybe it's you ("Baby It's You" -- The Beatles, '63)? "Magic cancellation"! That's the thing. It's a phrase used by English novelist James Hilton in his first novel "Ill Wind" ('32). Hilton was describing the power of altruistic love on the part of a Soviet diplomat (of all people) on a French chambermaid (who is actually a Russian aristocrat on the run from people just like him). The diplomat's entirely genuine love for the chambermaid demolishes her "architecture of misery" -- again Hilton's phrase -- which had confined her 100% up to that moment. "Magic" (i.e., outwardly interventionist, Holy Spirit-inspired) cancellation" is what it takes to "open the door to your heart" (Pete Townshend, '81). That's what it takes: one-way love from outside yourself. (And note, this is not antinomian. It is not rooted in denial. It is rooted in the Graceful determination of the one who loves. And in about four fifths of all cases, such "cancellation" opens the door to ... response, and -- here's the rub -- personal renewal and Hope. Try it. Maybe it worked on you once. (In the Fall of '72, all it took, in the case of yours truly, was someone offering a Sunday evening lift from 72 Mt. Auburn Street, Cambridge Mass down to -- hey it wasn't even far (geographically) -- Narragansett Bay. And it worked. I mean, forever.) LUV U.

Some indie labels find a happy home in the afterlife - think Prestige, Contemporary, et al who thrived for years under the Fantasy banner and are now sheltered under the wing of Craft Records. Others aren't so lucky. Super-producer and Record Store Day regular Zev Feldman has now made an enterprise of rescuing records from the long-dormant Muse label. What do the boys think of Zev's first three picks for deluxe vinyl reissues? How about the bonus Muse recording they included to fill out the episode? And what will Mike say when he talks about Talk Talk? You know how to find out, so I'm not going to tell you. Barry Altschul – ANOTHER TIME/ANOTHER PLACE; Carlos Garnett – COSMOS NUCLEUS; Kenny Barron – SUNSET TO DAWN; Roy Brooks – THE FREE SLAVE.

EPYSODE 43: "Turn On The Music Machine". Guest: Music Machine guitarist Mark Landon. This week on Vinyl Relics, we dive deep into the dark, fuzz-drenched grooves of "Turn On The Music Machine", the 1966 debut album from proto-punk pioneers The Music Machine. Known for their all-black attire and snarling, hypnotic sound, The Music Machine helped define the garage rock era with hits like “Talk Talk” and “The People In Me.” In this special epysode, we're joined by  guest Mark Landon, the band's original guitarist, who shares exclusive behind-the-scenes stories from the recording sessions, insights into the band's creative process, and what it was like to be part of one of the most influential — and underrated — acts of the ‘60s. I hope you dig "Turn On The Music Machine" as much as I do. - Farmer John ===CONNECT & SUPPORT=== Transport yourself into the realm of grooviness by supporting us on Patreon using this link --> patreon.com/FarmerJohnMusic Use this link to follow us on Facebook --> https://www.facebook.com/farmerjohnmusic/ Use this link to follow us on Instagram --> https://www.instagram.com/vinylrelics/ Use this link to follow us on TikTok --> https://www.tiktok.com/@vinylrelicspodcast Use this link to follow us on BlueSky --> https://bsky.app/profile/farmerjohnmusic.bsky.social And find us on X here --> @VinylRelicsPod Email me here --> farmerjohnmusic@gmail.com ===LINKS=== Here's a link to the Ron Edgar interview I mentioned: https://www.minniepaulmusic.com/artists/k-to-n/music-machine-ron-edgar-keith-olsen/ Check out Ritchie Unterberger's books here: http://www.richieunterberger.com ===AIR OARS END O'MISHUNS=== I mistakenly referred to Gale Garnett's song as "We'll Walk In The Sunshine".
