    On this episode of On the Couch with Liberation, we sit down and have an intimate conversation with Dr. Amy Reynolds who is the current Division 17 President about her PhD journey and the powerful mentorship relationships she had, identity development, and the importance of having a social justice praxis as an individual and field. Dr. Reynolds she is a professor in the Counseling, School and Educational Psychology Department at the University at Buffalo. She received her bachelors degree at Miami university, and her masters and doctoral degree at THE Ohio State University. Her scholarship primarily focuses on multicultural competence and training in counseling psychology and higher education. Her research specifically focuses on expanding the multicultural knowledge base through scholarship on race, racial identity, and racism-related stress, queer and trans identity, acculturation, and other multicultural issues. Dr. Reynolds is also an award-winning psychologist. She is the recipient of the Lifetime Commitment to Education Training Award, the American College and Personnel Association Diamond Honoree and an American Psychological Association Division 17 Fellow amongst other awards.

    On this episode of On the Couch with Liberation, we are joined by the phenomenal Dr. Bryan S. K. Kim, who discusses his journey into the field of Counseling Psychology, happenstance and possibilities, and the importance of using research as a path towards liberation. Dr. Kim is a professor and the chair of the Division of Social Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at The University Hilo. Dr. Kim's research focuses on multicultural counseling process and outcome, measurement of culture-specific constructs, counselor training, and immigrant experiences. Dr. Kim's work has led to over 90 publications and over 100 presentations. Dr. Kim's interest in cross-cultural psychology largely stems from his experiences growing up in Hawaiʻi as a 1.5-generation Asian American.     In honor of Women's History Month, we are joined by the extraordinary Dr. Sherry Wang, who discusses how her experiences as an immigrant of Asian descent shaped her career and work, the necessity of viewing self-care as community care, and steps our field can take to engage in work that combats xenophobia and racism. Dr. Wang is an Associate Professor in the Counseling Psychology Department at Santa Clara University. She is the chair of APA's Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs and co-directs the organization, Research Initiative on Social Justice and Equity, which is a national team of faculty, students, and community members committed to using critical inquiry to address issues of systemic inequalities.
