Welcome to One Conversation at a Time! I’m your host Kelly and I invite you to join me and my guests as we share our observations about LIFE! As humans we have a real desire to connect with each other and learn from one another. Let’s share secrets, stories, relationships, good days, bad days and everything in between!
Santa has come and gone, and now it’s time to start thinking about the New Year! Kelly is back on the mic with the dream team of co-hosts, Caroline, Justin and Andy...and there’s so much to cover! First up is a quick Christmas recap, including Andy and Justin’s harrowing ride home from family Christmas in the snow, and a weather-related Christmas first for Kelly. After that, it’s time to start thinking about the New Year. The group takes turns sharing what the positives they’re taking from 2020, and they come to a new way of looking at New Year’s Resolutions. And at the end of the episode, Kelly shares a special update about something she’s letting go as 2020 draws to a close. If you’re a fan of the podcast, you’ll want to make sure you catch the final few minutes of this episode for a heartfelt message from Kelly. Winter is setting up shop in Johnson City, which makes it a perfect time to sneak away before Christmas! In this week’s episode, Kelly welcomes fan favorite co-host A.R. back to the show to cover a full menu of topics. This week’s show comes to you from the road, as the Rhea clan heads south on an epic road trip to cheer for Jack in the South Beach International Amateur. But it’s not a straight shot to Miami for our intrepid podcasters. They’ve booked a short stopover on the Georgia coast to acclimate to warmer temperatures and sneak in a few holes of golf. This episode has plenty of stories for you to enjoy. First up, the family welcomes a long lost stranger back to their home...and it’s not who (or what) you might think. And the main topic for today’s show is REST. Rest is a big buzz word, but we get mixed signals about how much rest, if any, we should be getting. Kelly and A.R. share their thoughts about rest, and even why it’s hard to feel rested on a vacation. And make sure you stay to the end of the episode because you’ll want to hear about A.R.’s misadventures getting a haircut on the road. We’ve got the recipe for a great podcast, and today we’re serving up an episode you’re going to love. Like any great dish, we start with the best ingredients: Anna Ingram and Traci Stone in the co-host chairs, and the supremely talented Jennifer Enloe from Cakes to Live By as our guest. We pre-heat today’s episode by catching up on what’s been happening over the last few weeks. Anna tells about landing a perfect dress for a big occasion on a recent trip to Atlanta. Then Kelly recaps her visit to the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Dallas. Just as the show gets ready to cook, the ladies unpack an exquisite charcuterie board from @jcfromage in Johnson City. Your appetite will be roaring by the time they’re done going over the board, and that’s not even the main event! The main feature of today’s episode is Jennifer Enloe, one of the most creative and in-demand cake makers in Johnson City. Jennifer can do *anything* with butter, flour, eggs, and icing and her cakes always add just the right touch to any event. We’re so crazy about Jennifer’s cakes that we’ve teamed up with her for a cake giveaway on Instagram. Fresh off her interview with Kathy Baty highlighting breast cancer awareness, Kelly is back with another interview with a compassionate woman making a difference in the community. Today’s episode features Lisa Tipton, executive director of Families Free. Families Free is a non-profit that provides treatment, intervention services, employment, and support for women and families affected by substance abuse, incarceration, and domestic instability. In the episode you’ll hear how Lisa laid the groundwork for starting families free by working as a social worker supporting kids with incarcerated parents. You’ll love hearing about the early days of Families Free, when one-by-one, the right people showed up at just the right time to help Lisa get the organization off the ground. And make sure you stay to the end to hear about Storie House, a very special home that’s putting young women back on their feet. Did you hear the news? One Conversation at a Time is relaxing the pace of our podcasting and this is our first episode in our new twice a month format. It’s the same podcast you love, delivered to you at a more elegant pace. In the first half of today’s episode, Kelly sits down with her dear friend Traci to recap an emotional destination wedding weekend in Charleston for Traci’s son Kaleb. There are way too many stories to share in just one podcast episode, but you’ll want to hear about the the lovely Cottages on Charleston Harbor, Thursday dinner in a tucked-away room at Hall’s Chophouse, an unfortunate mosquito bite, Kelly’s traffic directing skills, a little chaos with the wedding cake, a very sweet letter Traci wrote to her new daughter-in-law, and some hurricane drama with Kaleb’s honeymoon. In the second half of the episode, Kathy Baty joins the show to talk about her journey with breast cancer. Unfortunately, it’s a topic known all too well to Kelly and Traci since both their mothers are long-term breast cancer survivors. Kathy shares about what it was like getting diagnosed at age 49 with a daughter in college and a daughter at home, her decision to get local care rather than seeking out a big research hospital, and how she guides other women to make their health a priority.
It’s time for another episode of One Conversation at a Time, and you’re in luck because Kelly has cooked up a great show this week! It’s a full house at One Conversation headquarters, with Caroline, Justin, and Andy sharing the co-hosting duties. Speaking of Justin and Andy, they’re podcasting this week with their new little bundle of joy resting peacefully in Justin’s lap. It took a little extra time to get their hands on their new addition, but once they did it was love at first sight! From there, Kelly kicks off a quick chat about all things fall, including her new go-to place to pick out pumpkins and Caroline and Justin share about getting Caroline’s apartment ready for the change of seasons. Next up, the gang recaps the Emmy awards, and celebrates a few big wins for a show that Kelly and A.R. are loving. And then there’s the big bombshell entertainment news of the week: the end of The Kardashians. You’ll want to hear everyone’s theories on why the show is ending and what TV will be like in a post-Kardashian world. Other highlights include a fun story about Kelly’s new best friend Amanda at Nordstrom in Nashville, and what it was like having an entire floor of the J.W. Marriott to herself. Fresh off celebrating A.R.’s birthday week, Kelly’s back on the mic with another interview you’ll want to hear! Today’s guest is Anna Ingram, familiar to many in Johnson City as Anna Zook, longtime morning anchor for WJHL. Kelly and Anna became fast friends playing tennis together this summer, and now you get to become friends with Anna on the podcast! In the episode, Anna recounts her days in broadcasting and shares a few stories about putting down roots in Johnson City. You’ll want to hear about the chance encounter that led to a prestigious internship with CBS in New York, and you’ll REALLY want to hear about her early days as a reporter battling the harsh South Dakota winter. From growing up in Seattle, to attending college in Colorado, to anchoring the morning news in beautiful Johnson City, Anna has left her mark on everything she’s done. Fresh off our podcast swap with Johnson City Living, we’re back with a birthday episode to celebrate A.R.’s special day. To kick off the episode, Kelly dials up her brother Ryan to wish A.R. a happy birthday and to add his two cents to the day’s conversation about living to 100. That’s right, today we’re tackling the question: do you want to live to 100? True to form, A.R. shows up for this recording session armed with an article about what it takes to live to age 100, but first he’s got to get past Kelly and Ryan, who aren’t so sure Parade magazine is a credible news source. (To be honest, they were surprised it’s still in print!) You’ll enjoy hearing Ryan’s thoughts on staying focused on today, and Kelly’s thoughts about sticking around to enjoy your adult kids and grandkids. It’s a fun episode. So what about you? Would you like to live to be 100? Kelly’s back with a brand new episode of One Conversation at a Time and breaking new ground as usual! This week One Conversation at a Time is doing a podcast share with the Johnson City Living podcast hosted by Leighton Hart. It’s two mini-interviews in one as Kelly and Leighton take turns digging into each other’s stories...family backgrounds, work life, and how they both got into podcasting. You’ve heard of Christmas in July, but have you heard of New Year’s Day in August? You’re about to! On today’s episode of One Conversation at a Time, Kelly is breaking more new ground as she delivers her first solo show and opens up about a challenge she’s tackling as we head into what she considers the best time of year for a fresh start. But trying something new isn’t always easy, so to start the show Kelly has a quick catch-up with Caroline for a little encouragement. They talk about Caroline’s status as a freshly-minted nurse practitioner and the accompanying graduation party. And Kelly shares with Caroline why she’s nervous to post her monologue on today’s show. Here’s hoping you can take something that will help you from Kelly’s self-reflection. And here’s to a very Happy New Year! Kelly's back from Oregon and it's time to plan some events, which means one thing: let's make some lists! Andy and Justin are back to co-host today and the topic of the day is list-making. It doesn't take long for this conversation to take a shocking turn when Kelly reveals she's FINALLY crossing something off her list that's been there for over two years! This episode will take you to lots of unexpected places, including: cakes and balloons, remote control Christmas trees, and even the Real Housewives of New York. And make sure you listen to the end to hear about a special new addition coming to Andy and Justin's home! Once again we’re breaking new ground at One Conversation at Time! This week we’re on the road, podcasting VERY remotely from The Bandon Dunes golf resort where Kelly’s son Jack is duking it out with the world’s best amateur golfers in the U.S. Amateur Championship. This week A.R. is back in the co-host’s chair to help Kelly recap an exciting (and tiring!) journey to Oregon, including: a 2.5 hour drive from the airport in the wee hours of the morning, the high stakes surrounding their COVID tests, unlucky tee times, Jack’s huge performance on the back nine on Tuesday, life inside the USGA bubble, and the one word you can’t avoid when you’re talking about Bandon. Pull up a stool and grab a taste of this week’s episode of One Conversation at a Time featuring guest host Caroline and a very special appearance from Kelly’s mother Carolyn. The topic of the day is food, and the ladies are talking about the magical power of food to bring people together and make memories. The ladies start their chat reminiscing about their earliest memories of making food together and then talk about the role of meals in Southern culture. There’s so much to love about this episode, including Carolyn’s story about being her mother’s kitchen helper, and Caroline’s story about who taught her to cook (hint: it’s not who you might think). And you’ll love Kelly’s story about how her aunt and grandmother sparked her interest in cooking by letting her do anything she wanted in their kitchens. You’re guaranteed to work up an appetite listening to this episode, but make sure you stay to the end to hear the family’s most irresistible recipes! It’s time for a fresh new episode of One Conversation at a Time, and today’s episode is one you definitely don’t want to miss. Recorded from a cozy corner of her living room, Kelly sits down with her friend and neighbor Krista Wharton. You may know Krista best as the friendly, stylish entrepreneur who brought Monkee’s boutique to Johnson City, but there’s so much more to this lady! She’s a mother, wife, and even an actress! Spend even a few minutes listening to this lovely conversation, and you’ll know EXACTLY why Kelly says Krista is the friend every girl wants to have. One Conversation at a Time is back with a brand new episode, and there are BIG questions to answer! First up, burgeoning health and style icon A.R. is back in the co-host’s chair, prompting Kelly to ask: With his growing following, is it time for A.R. to have his own podcast? From there, this episode moves quickly to the topic of the day when Kelly asks: Would you consider yourself a truthful person? We’ll take that awkward silence as a yes ;) In the first-ever book review on One Conversation at a Time, Kelly and A.R. unpack “Lying” by Sam Harris and it’s a lively conversation about what honestly really is - and isn’t. You won’t want to miss this thought-provoking episode, especially as they wade into tough questions like: How do you answer the question “Do I look fat in these jeans?” Is it okay to tell white lies to protect people’s feelings? What do you say to an unwanted houseguest? You’re going to get a kick out of this episode - and that’s no lie! One Conversation at a Time is back with a fresh episode and this one’s packed with good stuff. Caroline is back in the co-host’s chair to chat with Kelly about a few exciting developments before they hop on the phone to check in with friends who are attempting to vacation. There’s good news and bad news to kick off the show. Caroline shares a big milestone she’s achieved through blood, sweat, and tears (not all of it her own). And Kelly tells the story of how her online life got flipped upside down by one little mistake on the computer keyboard. The mother-daughter duo also gives an update on their foray into competitive tennis, and why it pays to have the world’s most patient coach helping out. For the main event, the ladies play “phone a friend” to see how their friends are faring on vacation. The first call is to Traci, who’s trying out the beaches of 30A in Florida. Traci gives a quick update before Florida’s sketchy cell service drops the call. After that, it’s a call to One Conversation regulars Andy and Justin to see how they’re making the most of their time off after numerous trips and adventures fell victim to quarantine. You’ll want to hear about the cozy beach town where they’re able to enjoy the summer and still steer clear of COVID. On today’s episode of One Conversation at a Time, Kelly is chatting with Mary Vaughn, a woman who Kelly says changed her life. What began as a job interview eventually blossomed into a powerful friendship and business relationship. In this sweet conversation between two long-time friends, you’ll hear all the ups and downs of their journey to open seven Dunkin Donuts franchises in six years. This episode is packed with stories about the stumbling blocks and successes Kelly and Mary encountered along the way, but make sure you listen closely, because Kelly shares the five keys to success that eventually led this power duo to earn the Operator of the Year honor from Dunkin Donuts in 2014. And if that’s not enough, you’ll want to hear what happens at a donut store when the baker doesn’t show up and the panic Kelly and Mary encountered on one particular Valentine’s Day. It’s time for another episode of One Conversation at a Time, and that means it’s another first for the show: on today’s episode Kelly brings in her first interview guest! Today’s guest is Dani Amos. Dani and her husband Jake moved to Johnson City in 2018 when Jake was hired as assistant coach for the ETSU men’s golf team. Jake is now the head coach of the men’s golf program, and Dani has become a golf mom to seven lucky college boys. In the episode Dani talks about what it was like moving to Johnson City after living in bigger cities like Columbia and Tampa, the ins and outs of raising young kids during a long golf season, and why being an athlete herself helps her stay positive as a wife and mom. And in true One Conversation at a Time fashion, you’ll want to stick around to the end of this episode for a story you won’t believe. Kelly and Dani share a wild tale that truly has everything: a forgotten cell phone, someone’s first Uber ride, a baby-faced doctor, an unexpected housekeeper, and ultimately, a healthy little bundle of joy. Summer travel season is in full swing and Kelly’s back in the studio between trips to talk vacations, relationships, health, and style. This week A.R. is in the co-host’s chair and it’s a huge episode for him. First up, he drops some health knowledge about the surprising origin of the 10,000 steps a day benchmark. Then he shifts gears and earns the title of official style reporter for the podcast by outing himself as “chain curious.” You might be surprised at Kelly’s reaction. In more style news, A.R. shares a welcome revelation at One Conversation headquarters: house dresses are back in, and Kelly is ready to take one for a spin. When the mic swings back around to Kelly, she kicks off a discussion about secrets for a happy marriage and shares the gentle way her family tells each other “it’s not all about you.” To wrap up the episode, Kelly reveals where the family is headed to celebrate Kelly and A.R.’s 30th anniversary next year. Cocktails in Manhattan? Shopping in Beverly Hills? Clear blue water in the Caymans? Not even close. You’ll have to hear it to believe it. On today’s episode of One Conversation at a Time, Kelly’s talking all about DECISIONS. Big decisions, small decisions, life-changing decisions, and everything in between. Kelly’s daughter Caroline is back in the co-host’s chair this week, and before the big conversation starts, Caroline serves up her newest obsession and talks about a big commitment she’s made on Kelly’s behalf. The main event in today’s episode is a candid mother-daughter chat about making decisions. Kelly leads off by sharing a shocking statistic about how many decisions we make every day, and from there the ladies talk about how they make decisions, why making decisions can be terribly hard, and how to build a habit of making smart decisions. And be sure to stick around to the end to see which daily decision is the toughest for Kelly and Caroline! Kelly’s back with the second installment of her summer travel series and today the topic is: PACKING. Before Kelly and her co-hosts Andy and Justin get to the main event, Kelly shares some updates from the past week, including some weather drama from her son Jack’s 21st birthday party and the emotional rollercoaster of having her husband and son both gunning for championships in the Tillinghast golf tournament. Just days away from the first big trip of the summer, Kelly kicks off the day’s conversation about how to pack for a trip. Everyone’s got their own way to pack, and Andy and Justin share how they approach packing (and who does all the ironing.) You’ll definitely pick up some tips from this episode that could make packing for your next trip that much easier. Summer is (finally) here and that means it’s time to talk about summer travel! Kelly’s in the studio today with special co-host and longtime travel buddy Traci to talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly of vacations. Before the travel chat starts, it’s time for some updates. Kelly’s been busy planning her son Jack’s 21st birthday party and praying for good weather. At the same time, her daughter Caroline and son-in-law Preston are bringing home a special bundle of joy of the four-wheeled variety. When the talk turns to travel, Kelly and Traci reminisce about family vacations of years past and how it’s different now that the kids are grown. Traci talks about her family’s plans to take a new beach spot for a spin (and what it’s going to take to get there.) Kelly shares about how she survived the gauntlet of trying to find a vacation house to fit her whole crew during the COVID-19 era. And be sure to listen all the way to the end, when Kelly and Traci share why their annual November trip to Scottsdale has become a favorite. Mentioned in today’s show: Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, Hall’s Chophouse, Tesla, 30A, Kiawah Island, Hawaii, Walt Disney World Resorts, Scottsdale
If you’re a podcast junkie, today’s episode is one you won’t want to miss! Kelly’s in the studio with her husband A.R. sitting in the co-host’s chair, and her brother Ryan joins by phone to talk about big news in the world of podcasting. But before they get to the heart of today’s episode, it’s time for some quick updates. Kelly clears the air about her Mother’s Day flowers while A.R. celebrates a big, sweaty milestone. And you’ll definitely want to hear A.R.’s style segment about one accessory that’s making a surprising comeback. Today’s big conversation is about Joe Rogan inking a deal to sell his mega-popular podcast The Joe Rogan Experience to Spotify for $100 million. Ryan, who’s a casual listener of Joe Rogan’s podcast, sheds light on some of the mechanics of the deal and why it makes sense. And the whole One Conversation crew agrees on a big takeaway that every podcaster can put into practice: that nobody can be a better YOU than you. Kelly’s back with a brand new episode of One Conversation at a Time, and today she’s once again joined by her favorite daughter, Caroline. The topic of today’s chat is: names. But before the ladies dive into the power of a person’s name, they offer a few updates on life from the past week. It’s back to life for Kelly as she heads off to the salon for the first time since quarantine, and back to reality for Caroline as she reports to work after a long break. This week’s episode is a big step forward for Kelly and technology, as she brandishes the family Apple Watch and participates in her first-ever Facebook Live. You’ll love Kelly and Caroline’s chat about how your name shapes you, their favorite family names, and their opinions on traditional vs. trendy names. And be sure to stick around to hear why Caroline can’t just call her mom, “Mom.” Mentioned in today’s show: Apple Watch, Facebook Live, The Kardashians One Conversation at a Time is a proud member of the Market Street Media family of podcasts. Kelly’s back with a new look and name for the podcast, but don’t worry...the great stories and Southern charm you’ve grown to love are still in full supply! Today’s show features Kelly’s daughter Caroline in the studio and her brother Ryan calling in from Kiawah Island. And speaking of Southern Charm, right off the bat, the trio tackles a big breaking story that could be the nail in the coffin for one of their favorite shows. After a quick chat about the short shelf life of flowers in Kelly’s house, it’s on to the main event: a lively discussion about sleep. The chat covers sleep gear like eye masks and white noise machines, perfect sleep conditions, what to do if you can’t get on the same sleep page with your partner, and they even spill the beans on Kelly’s unconventional before-bed beverage.
