Georgia Hall won the AIG Women's Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2018, just five years after triumphing in the R&A Women's Amateur Championship. Georgia's victory wasn't just special because it was her first major, but also because her dad Wayne caddied for her that week. A superb final round of five-under-par featured numerous highlights, and Georgia was the first British winner of the event since Catriona Matthew clinched the title at the same venue in 2009. Georgia, who began playing golf aged seven after her dad took her to a driving range near their Bournemouth home, doubled her LPGA win tally when she triumphed in the Cambio Portland Classic in 2020. The three-time European Solheim Cup player is a two-time Ladies European Tour order of merit winner, in 2017 and 2018. Georgia lost to Celine Boutier on the first extra hole of a play-off in the LPGA Drive On Championship in March 2023. pWotD Episode 2904: Grand Slam (golf) Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 319,048 views on Monday, 14 April 2025 our article of the day is Grand Slam (golf). In golf, winning all of golf's major championships in the same calendar year constitutes the Grand Slam. In the amateur era, this feat was achieved in 1930 when Bobby Jones won the four major tournaments of that era open to amateurs: the The Amateur Championship, the Open Championship, the United States Open, and the United States Amateur. Modern variations include a Career Grand Slam, which involves winning all of the major tournaments within a player's career. Six golfers have accomplished this: Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Rory McIlroy. There is also the Tiger Slam, achieved by winning four consecutive major titles but not in the same calendar year; this variation is named after Woods, the only player to accomplish the feat. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:46 UTC on Tuesday, 15 April 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Grand Slam (golf) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Ivy.

Garrett Engle employs a split handed grip, which is one of a kind in the world of high level golf. Garrett owns his grip and swing and it has suited him well as a high level amateur. Soly and Ben bring you the weekly recap pod from down under where Aussie Jasper Stubbs wins the Asia-Pacific Amateur at Royal Melbourne's famed composite course. We start with our observations from the week and experiencing firm and fast sandbelt golf at one of the best courses in the world before breaking down the action from the 2023 tournament (14:00) culminating in Stubbs winning in a playoff and securing invites to the 2024 Masters, the 2024 Open Championship and the 2024 Amateur Championship. We also reflect on the purpose of the tournament (29:00) and some of the interesting stories and competitors we met during the week from all over this part of the globe including countries with little to no championship golf tradition. We close with Ben's impressions as a first-time visitor, of Melbourne's golf culture and sandbelt courses (42:30), our upcoming match on the composite course at Royal Melbourne, and (55:00) the need for more top-level professional golf in Australia.
