pWotD Episode 2904: Grand Slam (golf) Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 319,048 views on Monday, 14 April 2025 our article of the day is Grand Slam (golf). In golf, winning all of golf's major championships in the same calendar year constitutes the Grand Slam. In the amateur era, this feat was achieved in 1930 when Bobby Jones won the four major tournaments of that era open to amateurs: the The Amateur Championship, the Open Championship, the United States Open, and the United States Amateur. Modern variations include a Career Grand Slam, which involves winning all of the major tournaments within a player's career. Six golfers have accomplished this: Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Rory McIlroy. There is also the Tiger Slam, achieved by winning four consecutive major titles but not in the same calendar year; this variation is named after Woods, the only player to accomplish the feat. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:46 UTC on Tuesday, 15 April 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Grand Slam (golf) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Ivy.

In Part 2 of Season 12, Episode 3, we're diving into Pittsburgh sports and golf history with two fantastic guests! First up, our good friend and Pittsburgh Sports Talk Radio Host, Paul Alexander, is back on the show! It's always an honor and a blast catching up with Paul. This time, we cover everything from the Steelers' offseason moves, Mike Tomlin's lack of leadership, and the state of Penn State football. Plus, with the U.S. Open returning to Oakmont this summer, I get Paul's take on what to expect from one of golf's toughest courses. I could talk to Paul all night, and you'll understand why but we kept it to a great 40-minute conversation packed with insights and laughs. Then, we round things out with David Moore, the Curator of Collections at Oakmont Country Club along with several other iconic Western Pennsylvania courses. David is also the co-author of the newly released book, Battling The Church Pews: The History of Golf's Premiere Events in Western Pennsylvania. Our guest today is Nadene Gole. Nadene is the world number one ranked senior woman amateur, a position she has held since February 2023 after only commencing playing senior women's amateur events in late 2022. In 2023, Nadene won all six Australian state senior women's amateur titles as well as the Australian and New Zealand championships, a feat not achieved by anyone previously. 2024 has seen her surpass this by claiming both the R&A and US Senior Women's Amateur Championships, the first Australian to win either of them, let alone both and in the one year. This she achieved despite the enormous stress of sudden severe illness threatening the life of husband and caddie, Sam, between those two events. Nadene shares her journey through golf from junior ranks to being the world's best senior woman amateur, a story of determination, resilience and the human side of elite golf. One of the talks of this years U.S. Amateur Championship at Hazeltine was that of Garrett Engle. Garrett is a senior at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and as he made it to the round of 16, the talk was not of his victories, but rather of his grip. Garrett Engle employs a split handed grip, which is one of a kind in the world of high level golf. Garrett owns his grip and swing and it has suited him well as a high level amateur. He will talk about college golf and of course, his grip - which brought about national attention this summer. Subscribe to the Break80 Podcast on Apple & Spotify for weekly golf content. We talk about a bunch of topics: his qualifying mindset, the long two days (and 38 holes) at Wild Horse in Nebraska in July, playing in the Amateur Championship at Royal Lytham and St. Annes, his experience at Stanford, how college golf has changed, and we end with a good 15 minutes on golf courses Shimp has enjoyed playing recently. Golf. Hard to believe there are other sports played here in The Valley as everywhere you look is a golf course. But one organization in particular is celebrating 100 years this year, the AZ Golf Association. The AZ Golf Association serves as the official governing body of amateur golf in Arizona. What started as a small group of golfers who got together to run the annual Amateur Championship has grown to an association of more than 700 men's and women's clubs, serving nearly 80,000 individual members. Today, the AGA is a volunteer-based organization directed by amateur golfers promoting the game of golf and providing valuable benefits and services to its members. This week I have Chris Montgomery who is the Dir of Marketing & Partnerships at AGA. Hopefully I can learn a thing or two about the game. We also have two of our favorites, Jeremy Mueller of State Farm Insurane and Dr. Rob DiVito of AZ Center for Laser Dentistry.
