She is the first African-American to graduate with a MA degree from Beijing Normal University in Beijing, China, and a Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong. She serves in leadership capacities within the American Education Research Association (AERA) and with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Education 2030 Project.
