This episode is brought to you by Darshleen Kaur as she talks about her journey about recent travels in India and at the Sidak summer camp in Vancouver. Darshleen reflects on these anecdotes as a love letter to her future self as she reminisces about her recent travels. Darshleen talks about getting to the end of our studies, deadlines and merely getting by with being so exhausted from existing and being ready to start summer with a clear head which many of us have resonated with. Darshleen also highlights issues that some of our listeners have raised recently like recognising the value of Amritvela, growing in your Sikhi, being vulnerable, feeling relief and free from the constant cycle of responsibilities, finding your sangat in your teenage years and connecting with your roots. amritvela, harmandir sahib - June 12, 2022 from a young age my mom has taught and instilled the value of amritvela and gurbani in my life repeating naam and building a discipline connected to guru maharaj is the greatest guiding source. my dad has always taught me the value of knowing our sikh history and reading our literature - learning where we come from and what we have overcome will be our effort to keep the khalsa panth and our sikhi alive. for their grace and teachings of instilling sikhi in my life, i will forever be grateful Poem by Darshleen Kaur @kaurzeye - You can find more of Darshleens extraordinary work on IG: @kaurzeye We have started to release exclusive content from our episodes that will only be featured on the @rahaopodcast Instagram so make sure that you are following us so you can get a sneak preview of what we'll be speaking about in the episode. This episode is narrating the story of Ganika the prostitute using Bhai Gurdaas Ji 's vaaran. Ganika was a prostitute who lived in a market in the center of a town. She often committed adultery and many other sins. Men were mesmerized by her beauty and youth. Every evening, her house was lit with candles, and she would dress up in all kinds of jewelry and beautiful dresses. Gurbani mentions, ਸੂਆ ਪੜਾਵਤ ਗਨਿਕਾ ਤਰੀ ॥ Teaching a parrot to speak the Lord's Name, Ganika the prostitute was saved. ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਨੈਨਹੁ ਕੀ ਪੂਤਰੀ ॥੨॥ That Lord is the light of my eyes. ||2|| Bhagat Naam Dayv Ji (A respected Hindu saint, whose writings are in Guru Granth Sahib Ji) tells us that Ganika was saved through teaching a parrot to say Lord's Name. She later became known to be a devotee of God herself. This is how her life changed for the better.
