Send us a textNavigating the complex world of early childhood education can feel overwhelming for parents. In this illuminating conversation with Neelam Khatri, a kindergarten teacher with a Master's degree in teaching, we uncover the hidden depths of what really happens in childcare settings and kindergartens across Australia.Neelam shares her personal journey from Nepal to Australia, where she discovered her passion for early childhood education after witnessing the pure joy of children in learning environments. What began as an exploratory career move blossomed into her true calling, eventually leading her to pursue advanced qualifications and extensive experience across various educational settings.Perhaps most fascinating is Neelam's perspective on why children behave differently at home versus kindergarten. "The most safe space for them is where their mom and dad are," she explains, offering parents a comforting framework for understanding their child's seemingly contradictory behaviors. As both an educator and mother of two young children, Neelam brings a uniquely balanced perspective that bridges professional expertise with lived parental experience. For parents selecting childcare options, Neelam provides invaluable criteria to consider: from centre size and communication methods to educational philosophies and staff qualifications. She demystifies the differences between various early childhood settings, breaks down staff-to-child ratios, and explains the extensive behind-the-scenes work educators perform—from documentation and programming to personalized learning support. We also explore Australia's evolving early childhood landscape, including plans to extend free kindergarten programs to three-year-olds by 2032, and discuss the vital supports available for children with diverse needs. Throughout our conversation, Neelam emphasizes that play is learning, and that skilled educators are constantly observing, documenting, and nurturing development through seemingly simple activities.Whether you're a first-time parent navigating childcare options or seeking to better understand your child's educational experience, this episode offers expert guidance, compassionate perspectives, and practical wisdom from someone who truly understands both sides of the early childhood journey. danabaltutis.com, mytherapyhouse.com.au, https://mytherapyhouse.com.au/your-childs-therapy-journey/ https://www.danabaltutis.com/services

Flame Bearers - The Women Athletes Carrying Tokyo's Torch

"Be Brave. Take the Leap." For Neelam O'Neill, shooting was never part of the plan. But from firing her first shots at a tin-roof range in New Zealand to making history as the first female pistol shooter to represent her country at the Paralympics, she has defied every expectation, including her own. "The first time I held a gun, I was seven years old, just shooting cans on a family trip—I didn't think much of it.” Flash forward to today, and she is the face of para shooting in New Zealand. Born with spina bifida and later diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, Neelam has faced immense challenges—both in sport and in life. And she wants to talk about it: “Disability is still not normalized, but 15% of the world has one—why are we still afraid to talk about it?” From navigating the financial burden of competing internationally to overcoming accessibility barriers in global competitions, she has had to fight for every opportunity. But Neelam refuses to let obstacles define her. “People with disabilities, our biggest thing is we just carry on. We just move forward.” In this episode, Neelam shares her journey from self-funded athlete to Paralympian, the mental discipline required in shooting, and the resilience that fuels her. She also challenges listeners to rethink disability, urging them to start conversations and embrace inclusivity. Her message is clear: “Be brave. Take the leap.” ------- Flame Bearers is a multi media movement, illuminating the unsung stories of elite women athletes from around the world. Just this year, Neelam Warren-Pal graduated from DePauw University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. Her late grandfather, Melvin Warren, was Ken's classmate in the late 1960s.When Ken left Southern California after graduating high school in 1966, he traveled to Chicago where he became a student at the Moody Bible Institute. Among his freshman dorm mates was Melvin Warren. They had long talks into the night. In retrospect, it was a clash of cultures. Four years later, Melvin called a press conference and announced that the Bible school was a white, hopelessly racist institution. Rather than receive an education, it caused him much harm. See JET MAGAZINE article from 1970.All these years, Ken lived with the suspicion that his response to Melvin's life story on the South Side of Chicago had contributed to his profound disappointment. Several years ago, Ken attempted to locate him - only to find that Melvin had died - too soon. Ken wrote a letter to Melvin and read it on a Beached White Male podcast episode - posted April 17, 2020. Several months later from her college dorm, Neelam, Melvin's granddaughter, decided on her own to search Google for the grandfather she had never met. Ken's podcast came up. Neelam listened as this stranger from California read a letter to her grandfather. He reflected on their days in Bible school more than fifty years before. Neelam shared her discovery with her Mom, Karen, Melvin's daughter. Since then Ken, Karen and Neelam have become friends. In this episode, you will hear Neelam's version of this heartwarming story. A graduate of DePauw University, Neelam hopes to be a podcaster. Her plan is to interview popular hip-hop artists. Ken and Neelam talk about her favorites: Doechii, Noname, and Megan Thee Stallion. Directed by Yash Chopra, this was Saif Ali Khan's debut film and it took us to many unexpected, half-remembered places. Starring Sunil Dutt, Vinod Khanna, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Raveena Tandon, Ashwini Bhave, Ramya Krishnan, and many others, this is the kind of Hindi movie that doesn't really get made any more. And maybe that's a good thing. Show Notes: 6.00 Can Bollywood Survive?   Asim was a guest on the BBC's Asian Network. Alaya first experienced brief glimpses leading to a spontaneous awakening in 1997. This left her with a burning fire for truth and a determination to find a release from her suffering. She was drawn to satsang and to the feet of her beloved Neelam: a teacher of the Ramana Maharshi lineage. From that very first meeting there arose a profound recognition of unconditional love but also a strong sense of separation and resistance. However, Alaya instinctively knew that penetrating the resistance was exactly what was needed to penetrate the suffering. With Neelam's unconditional love this separation fell away shortly after the birth of Alaya's first child in 2001. With a new husband and baby, Alaya moved to Asheville. She found in her daily experience of being a householder and working mother, that there was much abiding awareness/living in present Reality. But the non-abiding dream state kept arising which created an even deeper desire to investigate what was still appearing as separation. She realized that what was needed was already in the life she was leading and that every moment was a gift and opportunity to return to the natural awakened Self. “My husband, my children, my job, everything is my teacher, and true love is laying down whatever pulls on you, turning back to this life with an open heart and open palms.” With the realization that ordinary everyday life was sacred and that each moment was the Beloved pointing us home, she continued to question and inquire into her ideas, perspectives, and feelings until the veil of separation finally fell away. “With tenderness and openness, conditioning can unmanifest - leaving what naturally remains, as stillness, presence and love.” As people began to ask her to teach, Grace appeared as the non-dual teacher Adyashanti and with his support and friendship she began to give satsang in 2011. “Grace is like gravity, it will continue to pull you within for the truth of who you are isn't found in doing. It is found in the silence – in stillness.” Website: alayasatsang.org Discussion of this interview in the BatGap Community Facebook Group.
