Who's your art for once you're done making it? by Bryan Voliton
Hey now! BEVO here. We had a great conversation on tuesday about faking it till you make it, and if its ever a good strategy for showing up for the oppertunities you want for yourself in the future? Thank's Lumiere Rostick for asking great questions.
If you really want what you ask for, you have to put in the work to go a get it. I'm still shocked over how many of us say we want to live happier lives as creatives but aren't willing to put in the work because it's hard or it may take too long. Spend your time really understanding what you want, then spend the rest of your time going after it.
How often do you take the time out to reflect your accomplishments? In this episode, we took time out to do just that. We've come a long way since the first episode of Raising Unmanageables 29 weeks ago. From technical difficulties, figuring out the best ways to raise production value, and we as a team address any internal beef from within the group. There was a lot to learn and learn we did. Not just from each other in the studio, but from you, our listeners. Every week you tuned in and allowed us to steal 20or 30 minutes of your time. We know it was time you could've spent anyplace else, doing anything else. For those of you who hung in there as we figured this thing out. We thank you. Looking forward to 2019 we want to focus on bringing you more content, more discussion around creativity, and open up a bit more and bring in others to add their stories to the conversation of being Unmanageable. Thanks for a being involved in a great 2018. Have a great holiday Unmanageables. See you in the New Year!
This week's episode, we go back to our roots and try to answer the question "What does it mean to be unmanageable?", discuss why we think it's important to keep having these conversations around working as creatives, and explain what we want to accomplish as "Your resource for creative growth and business development."
When we decide to step outside of our normal routine and change things up a bit, you can expect some things not to go as smoothly as planned. The only options are to stay down and accept the loss or we get up and allow our shortcomings to teach us how to move forward.
People don't just buy the products, services, or art we make. They buy into the stories of the people who make them.
Whether you're bidding a job, showing gratitude, or achieving milestones in your career, tune in as we cover some basic yet complicated topics to navigate as a creative. Just in time for Thanksgiving.
Speak up and be heard, getting what you asked for, and the right time to start building your dreams is NOW.
Investing in yourself, identifying your ideal client, and ways to add value to your services are all bridges we have to cross as entrepreneurs. At times it can seem like they are moving targets and hard to pin down. Tune in this week and let's go over some ways we're learning to fine tune our strategies.

Are Your Goals Big Enough? A question we believe every business owner has asked themselves at many times in their career. Sometimes things don't go as planned and we have to realign our plans while keeping our goals in view. I definitely learned a lot from this conversation. I think you will too.
Understanding art and how we value the artist can exist in a grey area. And who better to break this down for us than an actual artist. This week on RUNM we brought artist Mason Gerhing from behind the scenes to in front of the camera to have a chat about her life as an artist, being back in school to get her masters in Art in Medicine, and how she implements them into her business. Enjoy!
Let's talk relationships. Whether it's a friendship, intimate, or business relationship. How you communicate boundaries, accept your vulnerabilities, and learn from each other's mistakes that determine the duration and quality of our relationships. Listen in as I learn a few things myself about making these types of transitions go more smoothly.
There's nothing wrong with having many skill sets. And in a lot of cases, it's necessary to be able to call on those skills when we need them through our creative lives. But there is still something to be said for narrowing them down a bit and being known for that one thing you do really well.
We took a slight deviation this week to talk about what it means to be father raising kids, specifically daughters. How to prepare them for a world that has come so far in regards to equal rights, yet still has so far to go. Listen up as we discuss how speaking up is so important, maybe now more than ever.
The beginning of the creative process is kind of like the beginning phases of dating. It's all googly eyes and butterflies and endless ideas of how things can be. Then you settle into it and the work begins. Check us out as we talk about how navigating the technical end of your work is more important than we think.
Do you need a portfolio as a creative? The Answer is always yes. But its the quality of the content and not so much the quantity of the work you have that matters the most.
Only in a perfect world is letting your work speak for its self a reality. Today, with so much noise and digital clutter your work does not stand a chance at being heard if you're not willing to throw in and let people know you're still here. We're turning so many corners here at Unmanageables as we look to what are bigger ways we can participate and provide content that matters. Self-promotion is just the beginning.
What Makes You, You? This weeks conversation is with Keith Taylor from Keith Taylor Photography. He sits down with us to talk about his passion for photography, music and his current transition of going back to school to become a nurse. Is it all worth it? Listen and see.

Being an entrepreneur, there are no shortages of lulls while doing business. Especially in the early stages when the only thing that seems important is keeping old clients and winning new ones to keep the ship afloat. What else could we be doing not just to stay afloat, but to stay relevant too? Listen in as we discuss setting new goals and things we want to accomplish during those downtimes.
School is not for all of us. That's why choosing an environment that is in line with your goals, should you decide to go to attend school is so important. Listen as Robert and I discuss some of the differences between some of these schools and what they mean down the road for us as creatives.
Picking up where we left off with our conversation about mentors. Robert and I talk a bit more about boundaries and setting goals for yourself to get the most out of your time together.
Having a mentor has always been a big deal for me. Being able to sit and talk to someone about how the world works and what I need to do to perform better in it has been valuable to me. Listen in and discover how having a mentor can be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make.
How do you see yourself as a creative? How will you add value in your life and the lives of others, through the work you're doing? That's the topic Episode 6. Listen in as Robert and I question Observation and how we can use it to inform what we do or don't do as creatives.
Being black is not an anchor for black people. Though it does take some extra maneuvering to navigate the waters of being a black creative, being afforded the same opportunities as our white counterparts, and knowing our worth and getting paid to do the work we're good at.
In this weeks episode, we talk about that wall we all hit when we think we've done everything we planned to do, and things just arent moving the way we think they should be.
