Grateful to have Alex and Lisa on from The Sober Experiment. Both women have amazing stories to share about their journey to and in sobriety. They are best friends who got sober and decided to join forces. They created a wellness program that works with organizations and individuals to help transform their mindset around alcohol. It's truly a beautiful partnership and I'm so excited to share their stories with you. Links to their work below. In this episode I talk with my friend Adam about something called 13th stepping. Dating and sex are super weird, period. But especially when you first come into the rooms. And many people, rightfully so, will tell you not to date or hook up within your first year sober. I don't know about you, but I'm not a fan of rules and not sure that alcoholics are the best at following rules. However, if you decide to start dating in the rooms just be sure that you have a strong connection with your higher power and be honest, with yourself and the other person. And, like my old sponsor used to always tell me, check your motives. PS. If you have been 13th stepped, or if you are a chronic 13th stepper, we would love to hear from you! I'm so excited to talk about codependency today! Research defines codependency as: "The psychosocial condition that is manifested through a dysfunctional pattern of relating to others. This pattern is characterized by: extreme focus outside of self, lack of open expression of feelings or emotions, and, attempts to derive a sense of purpose through relationships" (Spann & Fischer, 1990, p. 27). Whoa! That definition is me! I am a person who struggles with making other people, and most importantly, what other people think of me, my whole life. Over time I'm learning to put more of that dependence in a higher power, but progress isn't linear. I hope you enjoy the episode, and if you're struggling with codependency, just know you're not alone!PS. if you think you need real help for codependency there is a Co-Dependents Anonymous (CoDA). Find more info at their website http://coda.org
