Another gem from Paul Skenes as the Pirates beat the Rockies, 3-1 at PNC Park. Skenes tossed 8 scoreless innings for the second consecutive start and carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning. A footnote from the game is the lack of people in the crowd. There were only around 13k tickets sold and fewer than that in the building. It spurred comments about Pittsburgh being a ‘mediocre' baseball town from a retired Pittsburgh sports writer. Is he right? Is it a blackeye on the fans to not have a bigger number at the ballpark? The guys defended Pittsburghers on this one. The Pirates drew 31,000+ fans per game in 2015. Is Pittsburgh a good or lousy baseball town? Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. TK is a member at a local golf course that was rumored to be visited by Aaron Rodgers this weekend, but he didn't have confirmation on that. Will Evgeni Malkin be back? Does Kyle Dubas have something up his sleeve once we hit free agency? With how much power Sidney Crosby has over the organization, how does that factor into the offseason plans? TK told the guys to look out for Vincent Trocheck to be signed by the Penguins. Even at 33, TK said Trocheck does a lot of things that a championship team needs.

Pittsburghers are concerned about police accountability, especially with the increased presence of federal troops in many cities. DC Council in Washington recently passed emergency legislation requiring local police to release body-worn camera footage of incidents involving federal forces they patrol with, and to collect the names of federal officers who make arrests. It's a big shift in local policy, partially motivated by the fact that local cops have damaged their reputation by patrolling with feds. City Cast Chicago podcast host Jacoby Cochran talks with City Cast DC podcast co-host and executive editor Mike Schaffer about the political stakes involved, the effectiveness of body cameras, and how Washingtonians are dealing with the heavy federal law enforcement presence. We are all shaped by the neighborhoods we grew up in, from the cost and conditions of our housing to the bonds we formed within them and whether we had access to parks and grocery stores. And the data bears out that zip codes are more effective predictors of our well-being than our own genetic code. Improving neighborhoods that have been battered by extractive public policies, poverty and unsound housing conditions has been the cornerstone of the community development sector for decades. The sector has progressed in its technical ability to finance projects perceived as risky and at its best has evolved by requiring that redevelopment is rooted in the vision of community residents. Putting community first is the ethos of Neighborhood Allies, a nonprofit community development intermediary with a difference. In this episode of Power Station, I speak with its exceptional leader Presley Gillispie, who brings a full gamut of personal and professional experiences to this endeavor. Its goals, lifting 100,000 Pittsburghers up the socio-economic ladder in the next decade are ambitious, but achievable. And it means everything that Neighborhood Allies sees mental health as foundational to a strong community and actively invests in connecting residents to resources.

Hockey is having a big TV moment across the country — not for the sports, but for the gay sex and queer representation on HBO Max's new breakout series “Heated Rivalry.” The show, which has already been renewed for a second season, is based on a book series by author Rachel Reid, who says portions of its focus were inspired by an imagined rivals-to-lovers relationship between Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby and Washington Capitals winger Alexander Ovechkin. Host Megan Harris is tapping in fans across the City Cast network to talk about why this show has become such a hit and whether Pittsburghers should claim the connection.
