Episode 260 explores the emotional challenges faced by partners of individuals struggling with addiction, focusing on reclaiming happiness and self-worth despite the heartbreak of repeated relapses. It begins by addressing the toll betrayal takes on trust and identity, emphasizing the need for partners to step away from old coping mechanisms and prioritize their emotional well-being. The concept of radical acceptance is introduced as a transformative tool, helping partners embrace the reality of their situation without blame or denial while focusing on areas where they have control. The importance of boundaries is central to this discussion, with practical examples on how to create and uphold boundaries that protect emotional health and align with personal values. The article highlights the significance of self-compassion, engaging in fulfilling activities, and seeking supportive communities or professional help to rebuild resilience and self-worth. Betrayed partners are encouraged to rewrite their narrative, shifting from victimhood to empowerment. Finally, the article underscores that happiness is a self-driven journey independent of an addicted partner's choices. By taking ownership of their happiness, partners can create a foundation for strength and stability while pursuing dreams and aspirations that reignite a sense of purpose. It is a call to action for partners to step into their power, build a fulfilling life, and embrace healing as a possibility. For a full transcript of this podcast in article format, go to: "How Do I Get to Find Happiness Again When My Addict Partner Keeps Relapsing? Dr. Richard L. Oehler, Professor of Medicine at the Division of Infectious Diseases, Morsani College of Medicine, reviews two important clinical syndromes caused by Spirochetes. Dr Oehler begins by presenting an actual clinical case of Leptospirosis in a returning traveller from the Caribbean. He then discusses the epidemiology of Leptospira, a widespread zoonotic pathogen that favors temperate and topical climates worldwide. He then relates the life cycle, means of transmission, microbiology, clinical manifestations, and most relevant diagnostic studies. He concludes the leptospirosis section by discussing treatment and prevention. The second case he discusses is a febrile illness in a returning traveler from Jordan. Dr. Oehler goes on to discuss the epidemiology and classification system for relapsing fever (RF), and its broad categorization into tick-borne (endemic) and louse-borne (epidemic) forms. He further describes the characteristics of the soft-shelled Ornithodoros ticks and the Human Body Louse, and differentiates the Hard Tick Relapsing Fevers such as Borellia miyamotoi and B. lonestarii. He then reviews the clinical manifestations, diagnostic criteria, and treatment options for each form of RF. Lastly, Dr, Oehler breaks down treatment and prevention strategies for each form of relapsing fever.

The culture of selling and using pills was prevalent during Christian's addiction, with corrupt pharmacies and various sources for obtaining drugs. Christian's addiction led to destructive behavior and strained relationships, including his marriage. The allure of opiates, particularly the feeling of going from sick to well, was a driving force in Christian's addiction. Relapse can happen even after a period of sobriety, and it is important to recognize the signs and take action. Sponsorship and service play a crucial role in recovery, providing support and guidance to others. Helping others and staying connected to the program are essential for maintaining sobriety. Humans are fallible, and it is important to stay vigilant and committed to recovery. Sharing one's story and experiences can inspire and help others in their own recovery journeys. It's just my mind that's telling me that I'm worthless, that I can't get out of this." "When we're at our worst, where does the hope go? The hope doesn't go anywhere. It's just that my mind has checked out of the hope." "Hope is getting to the meeting. It's the energy of hope. Like maybe there's something here that can help me in this moment when I just don't feel like I can do it on my own."
Send us a Text Message.Relapse is common in sober communities. Can chronic relapse be disruptive to the group? If it is, how should it be addressed? We talk about chronic relapsers and how their presence can actually enhance the sobriety of those who continue with their recovery journey and how they should be treated with empathy. We discuss some who relapsed for decades, only to finally find continuous sobriety. We also discuss how to address anyone in a recovery community who is disruptive.Do you find value in what the Sober Friends Podcast does? What's up Bros? Welcome to a very frustrating episode... I think we can all agree that this season of Summer House is very good. It's light and fun in so many ways, but one dark cloud is hanging over the house. In this episode, West and Ciara continue to vibe with one another. Although West getting too excited and spilling the tea about making out doesn't sit well with Ciara. Jessie gets confronted about hitting on Paige and quickly says he would never cross that line. Kyle and Amanda continue to work on their relationship, and having the counterpart of Lindsay and Carl in the house to show them some more drastic communication issues has definitely benefited them. The focal point of this episode which was genuinely difficult to watch, Lindsay accuses Carl of using drugs again. Steel has a lot to say on the matter towards the end of the episode but overall, it appears Lindsay's drinking is the main factor in these fights that they are having. It will be interesting to watch how the rest of this unfolds between the two of them... This week on Dopey! Dopey Legend Alert! When I heard about Benji Gleason, I had no idea what was coming down the pike. Benjamin Gleason aka 8enjamin3orderline has lived as Dopey a life as I have ever heard. From a deeple traumatic upstate New York upbringing in and out of institutions to selling MDMA and Ketamine up and down the west coast of America. Plus joining the crips, Ayahuasca, jail time - and how can we forget blowing up on TikTok to the tune of 1.2 million followers! His story will live on in Dopey infamy for eternity. PLUS fucking up your teeth on methadone, voicemails and loads of other dumb shit on a brand new episode of that good old Dopey Show! More About Dopey: More About Dopey: Dopey Podcast is the world's greatest podcast on drugs, addiction and dumb shit. Chris and I were two IV heroin addicts who loved to talk about all the coke we smoked, snorted and shot, all the pills we ate, smoked, all the weed we smoked and ate, all the booze we consumed and all the consequences we suffered. After making the show for 2 and a half years, Chris tragically relapsed and died from a fentanyl overdose. Dopey continued on, at first to mourn the horrible loss of Chris, but then to continue our mission - which was at its core, to keep addicts and alcoholics company. Whether to laugh at our time in rehab, or cry at the worst missteps we made, Dopey tells the truth about drugs, addiction and recovery. We continually mine the universe for stories rife with debauchery and highlight serious drug taking and alcoholism. We also examine different paths toward addiction recovery. We shine a light on harm reduction and medication assisted treatment. We talk with celebrities and nobodies and stockpile stories to be the greatest one stop shop podcast on all things drugs, addiction, recovery and comedy pathfinding the route to the heart of the opioid epidemic. Business owner, Bachelorette contestant and avid Philly sports fan, Zac Clark, is joining this week's episode of Rooted Recovery Stories to share his road to sobriety. His story goes from a charmed childhood and high school keg parties in the woods, to intense college parties and attempts to hide addiction while maintaining a marriage. Zac Clark's addiction journey began as a teenager trying to have fun and party with friends, but initially, Zac felt that there was no problem that needed to be addressed. Later, the discovery, removal, and pain medicines received after a brain tumor added new elements to his addiction. His addiction eventually grew to the point where family intervened to convince him to seek treatment. Relapsing after one round of treatment and attempting to steal from his father, led to another round of treatment that would get him on a permanent path to recovery. Zac now aids others on their road to recovery through his business Release Recovery, and he tries to keep himself in touch with the world outside of addiction by traveling to Philadelphia from New York City to attend 76ers and Eagles games. In this 186th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode we discuss the mechanism of action by which the mRNA vaccines cause heart damage, following the publication of relevant research in Science Immunology. We discuss the nature of science, both empirical and theoretical, and why the eclipsing of theoretical science by the empiricists is dangerous. We discuss how fields become stuck, and why, once they get stuck, it is easy to best them. We discuss a new paper that describes two case studies of teenage males who have recurring myocarditis post mRNA vaccine. And we talk about social learning in bumblebees: they learn how to solve puzzles from others of their own kind.
